"Enoch, why are you always like this" Jake said  trying to strike up a conversation with Enoch. The one that never speaks.

"Like what Jake" Enoch spoke while blankly staring at his plate

Everyone at the table became dead silent, listening to what could come next

"Well you know moody, arrogant insecure. It can't just be because of the way you were raised, it's got to be something else. What happened to you?"Jake asked looking at Enoch to see if he'll get a reaction out of him 

"How about you just stop asking me all of these questions and carry on with your dinner like everyone else should be doing" Enoch glared at Jake 

Everyone stared at Jake and Enoch to see what would happen next. But all Jake did was go quiet and stare forwards not being able to speak, while Enoch carried on with his dinner trying to act like nothing happened

"Excuse me Miss Peregrine, may I speak to Jake privately."

Miss Peregrine picked up a napkin and wiped the remanence of food off from her face. "Why yes you may Emma but be back in time to help clean up."

"Thank you and we will don't worry" Emma spoke while grabbing onto Jake's hand pulling him up off his seat and away from the dinner table towards the hallway away from prying ears

"Jake you shouldn't have brought that up with Enoch." Emma

"Why though? He's always so quiet with everything he does, I've always wanted to know what's up with him Emma." Jake questioned Emma

"If I tell you, you promise not to tell anyone" Emma added

"I would never break a promise to you ever" Jake held his hand up to his heart in the motion of promising

FLASHBACK

"Lyric watch out its behind you!" Enoch screamed at his fiancé while trying to reload his crossbow.

The monster with its slender frame and long tentacles was throwing things about the room making everything a complete mess while also picking up Lyric with his long arms

"I hope the Hollow doesn't mess anything more up, it'll be a problem cleaning up this room afterwards." Enoch laughed while getting his crossbows eye of sight in range

"Just shoot the thing Enoch! Stop fooling around and help me out! 'Lyric yelled out while trying to wiggle out of the Hollows grasp.

Enoch fired and shot the Hollow right in the back, making it come down dead trialing with a thud

"Right let's get out of here and join up with the others" Enoch said while pulling Lyric up from the ground

Roman, Opal, Henry and the others were already up on the rooftop trying to make it out in time before the bomb dropped on the house

Lyric and Enoch made it safely to the roof and down a tree that Iris had grown out so the limbs were close enough to reach

"Well, luckily we all made it out on time everyone." Lyric spoke up trying to rise the spirits of everyone. But before she could finish her sentence the bomb that they were trying to out run hit the house with a loud bang.

Shrapnel was everywhere and the entire house was up the flames, anyone with their head screwed on straight could tell that nothing was salvageable

But unbeknownst to everyone there was a Hollow that had escaped the children and the bomb

Everyone had no mother figure for guidance and to lean on now that Miss Adeline had passed away, they had no clue where to go and what to do

"Children please listen to me" Lyric tried to get their attention but their worried voices were too overpowering for them to hear her speak

"OI! Everyone listen to Lyric, she has something to say"

From Enoch speaking loudly everyone then started to stop whispering between each other and listen

"Thank you very much Enoch, now that I have your attention I'll make this quick. I've read the history of loops, where to find them, what era there in and who's the Ymbryne. So I have a fair idea of the closet loop from here and how to get there fast a---"

"Watch out!" Everyone screamed at Lyric but before she could react to what was happening she felt a sharp pain in her stomach, she looked down at where the pain was coming to find the Hollows tongue had pierced it and gone right through.

"NO LYRIC NO!" Enoch raised his crossbow once again aiming it at the Hollow shooting it dead.

He ran over to Lyric cradling her in his arms, whispering to her as she faids in and out of consciousness

"Lyric love hang in their darling it'll be alright" Enoch spoke through his tears, clenching his teeth at the sight of his betrothed dying in front of him

Everyone around Enoch and Lyric were holding their breaths, crying silently as their close friend they've known for years was a step closer to death's door

Lyric had one hand on her stomach trying to stop the pain and the other on Enoch's face wiping away his tears

"Look everything is going to be alright darling, it's going to be fine..." her groaning from the pain becoming more prominent

"No it's not, you're leaving me when you shouldn't be. Now is not the time to be saying that everything is fine when it's not" Enoch now starting to cradle his loved one more

"Get the children out and away from here, get them to a loop, make sure they all stay safe, please Enoch please..."

"Yes yes yes, anything for you" Enoch leaned down and kissed Lyric on the lips. "Please don't leave me, please don't" he cried out in pain.

Looking down at her he could tell that there wasn't much time for her left, that made him realize he needed to say this to her before she passed

"You know I haven't been one for lovey-dovey words, and I've never said this to you because I never knew when the right time was and when to say it. I wish that this weren't the time to say this but I guess it just is."

"I've loved you from the day I saw you, I love your chestnut eyes and how they sparkle in the sunlight, I love you're hair, how soft and wavy it is to the touch, I love your personality and how it's different to anyone's who I've ever known"

"Sorry everyone" Enoch turned around and looked at the others trying to lighten the mood

"None taken" they laughed through their tears

"What I'm trying to say is that you're one in a million Lyric, you're one in a million and you're someone I'll never forget" Enoch's head leaning downwards towards the ground

"I love you to Enoch O'Connor goodbye." with Lyric now gone Enoch felt like there was a chunk of his heart ripped out

This was something that was never meant to happen

"Now do you see why he's like the way he is Jake?" Emma said looking at Jake to see what he would say since he had been silent for the last few minutes.

"Thank you for telling me that. I don't really know what to say, it's a lot for me to take in right now but thank you" Jake hugged Emma.

"Well you're welcome, Enoch won't be very happy if he finds out that I told you this so do not tell him we ever had this discussion, got it Jake." Emma looked at Jake with a blank expression

"Cross my heart and hope to die, I promise I won't ever speak of this to anyone"

"You and you're strange sayings. Right! Let's head back and help to clear the table Jake" Emma looked at Jake with a smile on her face. Holding onto Jake's hand they both walked back into the room.

"Wait, where have I heard that before" Jake asked himself
