TW: Emotionally abusive relationship, violence

"He wasn't always like this you know" Patton told Deceit. "He used to be so kind and caring and loving. He would always make time for me and we could often cuddle together"

"Well then what happened to him? What made him treat you the way he does?" Deceit asked.

"He just started to get stressed all of a sudden and more angry" Patton shrugged, hiding the fact that he knew the real reason why Virgil ended up the way he did.

"Come on Patton, I know you're hiding something" Deceit frowned as he placed his hands on Patton's lap. "I'm the embodiment of lies so I can tell that there's more to it. Come on. You can tell me anything"

"You're right" Patton sighed. "There is more"

"So come on, what's the real reason he treats you like this"

"It's my fault really. I was the one stupid enough to annoy him one day when he was already annoyed so he took his anger out on me and I guess since I'm so easy to upset it kinda became routine for him" Patton explained.

"Care to elaborate?" Deceit asked and Patton nodded as he began to explain everything.

Flashback

Virgil paced up and down his room, anger bubbling in every vein in his body.

"I hate Roman! I freaking hate him!" He mumbled to himself as he continued to pace his room. Earlier, the two had had an argument like usual only this time, things became more physical with the two punching and kicking and slapping and scratching eachother. This obviously really annoyed Virgil and angered him even more.

Just then, the door swung open and Patton strolled in, a warm smile on his face. "Hey Virgey, is everything alright?" He asked, pecking Virgil on the cheek.

"No!" Virgil yelled as he ran his fingers through his hair and edged away from Patton. "I hate Roman! I freaking hate him! I want to murder him!"

"Had another fight?" Patton asked.

"Duh"

"Okay, well there's no need to get so angry, just take deep breaths in and out and try and calm down"

"Don't tell me what to do!" Virgil yelled. "You're not my dad!"

"I may not be your actually dad but I am your very concerned boyfriend. I hate seeing you like this"

"And I hate seeing your stupid little face!" Virgil yelled and Patton's expression dropped. Virgil knew that he should have felt guilty for insulting Patton but he felt some relief fly off his chest, as if his anger was slowly fading away.

"Y-you don't m-mean that" Patton stuttered.

"Of course I do! You're so stupid and pathetic and useless and worthless and-"

"Stop! Please" Patton threw his hands over his ears. "S-surely you don't m-mean all that. Y-you're just angry"

"No I mean every single word" Virgil smirked. Tears rolled down Patton's cheek although he tried so desperately not to cry. "Awww you gonna cry?" Virgil pouted, mocking him. "Looks like the ickle cwy baby is gonna cwy. How sad"

"Virgil, p-please stop. I-I don't like it"

"Then leave! I don't want to see your stupid face or hear your stupid tears anyway! Scram" Patton quickly ran away, his heart aching as if it had been torn in two. Why would Virgil say that? He thought he loved him.

Present time

"And I guess after that, he just used me to take his anger out on" Patton explained.

"Patton, you can't let him do this to you any more" Deceit protested as he stood to his feet. "You can't let him use you as a punching bag just to take his anger out on. You have to stand up to him, otherwise, he'll think you're weak and will only do it more. The only way to stop this is to stand up to him"

"Oh no no no. I couldn't do that to him. He'd only get even more annoyed. Besides, I love him too much to let him go. I always wanted to help him and I guess now I am" Patton weakly smiled.

"Oh Patton" Deceit sighed, sitting back down next to Patton and looking him in the eyes, taking his hands in his own. "You can't let this continue forever"

"I know" Patton mumbled as he looked away sadly. "But he's the only one who's ever loved me. I can't let him go that easily"
