First date blunders

Hey guys. So I wanna really quickly thank angstwithanP for unintentionally giving me inspiration for this one shot. I've said this before and I'll say it again: if you have any moxiety one shot ideas whatsoever, please let me know as I am running out of ideas. I will write anything apart from smut or anything that may be triggering (e.g. rape, self harm, suicide ect). So yeah. Let's get on with the one shot. I hope y'all enjoy it 💖

Virgil and Patton had been together for about a week now but nothing much had happened between them apart from the occasional kiss and hug. They hadn't even been on their first date yet but Patton planned to change that. He had planned the best date for them. It may have just been a quiet picnic in the park but it was the ideal first date. Everything had been planned out perfectly, or so he thought.

Patton ran over to Virgil's door, a wide smile spread across his face and a light wooden picnic hamper in his hand. Eagerly knocking, he heard a long, stretchy yawn from the other side before hearing shuffles and the door slowly creaking open.

"Good morning Pat!" Virgil yawned. "You seem very happy. What's happened?"

"Well, I was wondering if maybe, you wanted to go on our first ever date today!" Patton squealed, barely able to contain his excitement.

"Today? Sure. I'd love to"

"Great! Be ready by 12. That's when we'll leave. See you later Virgey. Can't wait!"

"See you then Pat" And with that, Virgil gently shut the door and began to get ready for the first date if his life.

After a few hours of getting ready, Virgil was finally ready to go on his first ever date. He would be lying if he said that he wasn't anxious about it, wishing that he could just bail out. But he would also be lying if he said that he wasn't also excited. He heard another knock on his door and, after quickly fixing his hair in the mirror, he ran over to the door and swung it open to see Patton standing there but instead of his normal outfit, his grey cardigan was replaced with a pink tie. Virgil still wore his regular outfit.

"Hey Virge! You look amazing!" Patton smiled before kissing Virgil on the cheek, causing his usually pale cheeks to turn bright red.

"Th-thank you. N-not as g-good as you though"

Patton just smiled at the compliment. "Thanks but you look cuter. Right, let's get going shall we?" Nodding, Virgil took Patton's hand in his and their fingers intertwined as Patton him downstairs and out of the door.

After a long walk, which seemed to fly by since the two were just giggling and flirting the whole time, they finally arrived at the park. Patton found a quiet spot and lay the chekered picnic blanket down on the grass. Gesturing for Virgil to sit down first, he began to get some of the food and drinks out of the picnic basket as Virgil sat down. He then sat besides Virgil and kissed his cheek.

"Would you like any food Virgey?" Patton asked.

"I'll just have a sandwich for now thank you" Nodding, Pattton took out the two sandwiches that he had made, handing one to Virgil and eating one himself. To Virgil, the sandwich tasted strange but he didn't want to say anything too rude to Patton. Instead, he just decided to politely ask what the filling was.

"Pat, what's in this sandwich?" Virgil asked.

"Peanut butter and Jelly" Patton replied with a mouthful of food. Without thinking, Virgil immediately spat the food out, spraying it all over Patton.

"Virgil!" Patton sighed, grabbing some napkins from the picnic basket to clean himself off.

"Omg Pat. I'm so sorry. Are you ok?"

"I'm fine Virgil. Just a bit confused. What's wrong with the food?"

"I don't like peanut butter" Virgil mumbled and Patton gasped.

"Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry Virge. I completely forgot. Here, you can have the rest of mine. It's just ham" Patton offered.

"No I'm fine"

"Are you sure Virgey? I'll have the rest of yours and you can have the rest if mine"

"Are you sure Pat?"

"Of course!" Patton smiled, swapping the sandwiches.

"Thanks Patton"

"Any time kiddo"

After eating the sandwiches, Patton took out a bag of crisps (or chips) and a bowl of homemade salsa he had prepared earlier that morning.

"Salsa smells delicious Pat" Virgil commented, taking a sniff of the dip.

"Thanks. I made it this morning"

"Can't wait to try it!" Virgil took the bag of crisps and was just about to dip one into the salsa before Patton stopped him.

"Virge, are you not hot in that hoodie? Do you want to take it off?"

Virgil hated to admit it but Patton was right. He didn't like taking off but would do anything for Patton. Reluctantly taking it off, he lay it on the floor beside him and dipped his chip into the salsa. His eyes immediately lit up when he tried it.

"This is delicious Pat"

"Awww thanks. I tried my best"

Suddenly, they heard the sound of barking and footsteps running towards them. Quickly looking towards the source of the noise, they saw a small, grey dog running towards them. Before they could do anything, the dog ran straight through their picnic, spilling the salsa all over Virgil.

"Sorry about that" the dog's owner appologised as she ran up to them, panting, before running after her dog.

"Max get back here!" She yelled after the dog

"Virge, are you ok?" Patton asked turning to Virgil

"I guess so. Just a bit messy"

"Here. Take these" Patton handed Virgil a stack of napkins and he began to wipe himself off.

"Thanks Pat"

"You can put your hoodie back on to cover up the stain if you want" Patton suggested and nodding, Virgil did just that.

They had finally finished their picnic and were just packing up when the bright, beaming sun began to hide behind dark, gloomy clouds.

"Uh oh. Looks like it's gonna rain. Better get a move on" Patton pointed out and Virgil nodded, quickly shoving the food into the basket. Just as they were about to leave, it was like a bucket of water was poured on them as the clouds threw a million rain drops at them. It was too far for them to walk home so, grabbing eachothers hands, they ran underneath the nearest bus shelter to wait for the rain to pass.

As they waited, Virgil noticed Patton shivering due to the rain. He couldn't just let his boyfriend freeze so he took his hoodie off and wrapped it around Patton, warmly smiling at him. He may have been cold and bye had a massive salsa stain showing but he cared more about his boyfriend than himself.

"Th-thanks V-Virgil. S-sorry this h-hasn't been th-the best d-date. I-it was k-kind of a d-disaster" Patton shivered.

"Are you kidding? It was the best day of my life. Wanna know why?"

"Why?" Patton asked.

"Because I got to spend the whole day with you. I love you Pat" he smiled before pulling him into a gentle kiss.

"I love you too Virgey"
