CHAPTER V ; FIRE & GOLD

Renea Ramsey

Hours had passed from the first time that Renea had landed on the cold floor of the palace. She had woken in a large room with dark purple walls. She laid on a huge feather-stuffed bed but that didn't comfort her. Her heart ached for the sweet smiles of Huntington and Felix. Renea rolled over and let the tears slip.

The tears didn't stop. She didn't know what time it was, where her brothers where or what was happening to them. Renea stiffened as a fist knocked against her door. "Are you alright?" came a male's voice. She wasn't sure if she known the voice. It sounded familiar but she couldn't put her finger on it. Renea didn't hear for the male voice again as she rolled over and cried herself to sleep, heavy sobs beforehand.

Mumbling in her sleep, Renea rolled over, hitting herself awake. She sighed, wiping the sleep from her eyes as she slipped from the bed. Not bothering to check how swollen her face was from crying, Renea slowly made her way across the cold stone flooring towards her door, not caring that her feet were bare. Sticking her head out of the door and looking both ways, she tip-toed out of her room and down the hall.

Twisting, and turning into different hallways, Renea wasn't looking for any particular room, just one that didn't feel lonely. She'd preferably find Huntington and Felix. Renea looked up at the gold and black granite through the castle with awe. As she peered through each room she came past, her feet lead her towards the an open large room.

Renea caught sight of the large black diamond throne chair. She looked around the room. It was elongated, though wide. Her eyes following the small path to the chair, her fingers dusted the back of the chair first. It was warm to touch rather than freezing as she had thought. Renea slowly touched every inch of the black diamond throne, grinning as she finally decided to sit in the chair.

She hadn't noticed that her hands had become clammy with the thought of getting in the throne that didn't belong to her. Renea ignored the fear that was slowly raising as she watched the fire. The red, blues, and white seemed to be dancing as if they were souls. Her eyes never leaving the fire, watching as the fire grew taller with each minute. And with each minute her heart beat faster.

A smirk crossed Renea's face unknowingly, watching as the fire climbed the golden walls with the black granite. She didn't mind the footsteps that came closer, the ones that would surely get her into trouble. Renea watched the flames grow higher, and higher until they reached the vaulted ceiling of the palace.

The heat of the burning wall was a welcoming feeling to Renea as if she had messed the sting of the heat. The way that curled, it was welcoming, begging for something to burn, and burn brightly. Renea hissed, grabbing her wrist quickly; wishing for the pain to aside. She carefully took her hand away from her wrist with wide eyes, as she caught the sight of a large hammer surrounded in fire. Her skin was charred were the symbol sat on her skin. Renea stood up quickly, though she didn't know what to do or where to do.

"It's the symbol of Hephaestus," the voice from earlier whispered behind her. Renea twirled in her spot. Her eyebrows threaded together. He seemed familiar but she couldn't place him. Her heart skipped as she realized that the young man that stood in front of her was Pan, or should she call him Hades.

"You're Hades?" he nodded, his dark curling hair bouncing in response. His eyes were dark while his skin was olive-toned and his smile was bright. Renea blinked a few times, getting over the shock, the rage built in her stomach while the attraction took place in her chest. Renea shook her head, holding out her forearm. "Why would I have the symbol of hephaestus burned into my arm?"

Hades laughed. It sounded like wind chimes and bells. Renea cleared her throat, while shifting from foot to foot. "Sit back down, you look wonderful on the throne." he nodded as he moved to stand in front of her. Renea watched his movements carefully. She hated herself as she let the rage melt away from her slowly. "It means that you are a demi-god; your father is hephaestus."

"That isn't possible," Renea shook her head. Hades laugh again, taking a seat on the platform in front of her.

"Do you know your birthfather? Have you ever done something so weird that you couldn't explain?" Hades's questioned her and she nodded, looking down at the symbol. Renea couldn't decided rather it was a good thing or a bad.

Renea quickly remember her anger as she sat forward, looking at Hades's face; anywhere but his eyes which was probably a bad idea, her eyes tracing along his facial features. "How do you look different? How did you make me believe that you were Peter Pan and had tinkerbell and why did you kidnap me and my brothers?! And where the hell are Felix and Huntington?"

She could feel her blood rushing towards her face, her heart was beating roughly against her ribcage. Renea watched as the flames in the hearth grew once again. He took a step towards her, before taking a quick step back, wondering what shinned in Renea's eyes that frightened him. Hades's held up his hands, a frown slipping across his dark features. "I have the power to transform myself into people's child dreams, and you wanted to believe in Peter Pan it was easy for you to see it. Tinkerbell was one of my furies disguised along with the lost boys. I kidnapped you because I fell in love with you. At first I was going to feed you to my father, Cronus because every month he needs to be fed but I couldn't do that to you. Also your brothers are fine. Just resting."

Renea lip turned at the sight of him. Hades's eyes dropped. She watched as he took a deep breath, and taking a step towards her. "I just wanted you to be my queen," Hades told her, standing up straight and holding his head high.

Renea's fist curled, "I don't want to be your queen, and I demand you to take me to see my brothers!" she hissed, his eyes darkened. Hades was quick to grab Renea by her shoulders, and pull him into her. He kissed her hard on the lips before pulling away with a smirk. Renea's fist connected with his stomach, though it didn't seem to bother him.

"You won't see your brothers until you agree to by my queen," Hades hissed, his eyes turning pitch black with purple flecks. He waved his hands and the black smoke engulfed Renea once more. She cursed him as she landed in the soft feather she had started in. Renea growled in anger, setting her pillow on fire before setting everything around the bed on fire, and sitting in the middle of her bed. She hummed to herself, waiting patiently for dinner. Renea made animals out of the fire as she waited.

An hour passed, then two. By the fifth hour Renea had let the fire burn out around her. She jumped as the door opened slightly, a young woman with nearly white hair, and green eyes opened the door fully. Renea watched her carefully, as the woman bowed low. "The king has requested her presence at the dining table,"

Renea nodded, following the lady through the many halls. Renea would be lying to herself if she said that she didn't feel relief to be seeing Hades face again. She couldn't explain it but she felt this connection to him as if she had known him for years. The white haired lady opened the large doors into the dining room.

Gasping, she caught sight of the long table. At the far end of it sat Felix and Huntington on the right side of Hades while the king of the underworld sat at the end of the table. Renea slowly made her way into the room. The boys looked towards her, sliding from their chairs and running the distances of the hall. Renea fell to her knees, collecting both of the boys into her arms while kissing their heads, faces, and arms while they kissed her face.

"Come on, we are eating!" Felix grinned, standing up. She followed his lead as Huntington grabbed her other hand and pulling her towards the end of the table.

"It's yummy, Ren Ren!" Huntington told her as he rubbed his stomach. She laughed. Picking up Huntington, holding him closer to her. Huntington laughed with delight, grabbing her face and kissing her cheek. Renea giggled as she sat Huntington back in his seat. He sat closer to Hades while Felix sat next to Huntington.

Hades's quickly stood up, and pulling out the other chair on his other side so that she'd sit closer to him. Renea cleared her throat, blushing as she took a seat while he pushed her in. Renea kicked her feet back and forth. Watching Felix and Huntington carefully before looking back at Hades, a wide smile on his face as he looked at the boys with adoration.

"I like it here, Ren!" Huntington told her with a mouthful of food. "Can we stay here forever?!"

Renea could feel all three of their eyes on her as she filled her plate with food. She watched Huntington with a frown. "You know the rules, Hunt. You're not allowed to talk with food in your mouth."

Huntington quickly swallowed. "But can we?" he laughed, poking Felix with his thumb. "King Hades says that he wants you to marry him and become the Queen."

She glared at the god, turning back towards Huntington. "We can't stay here, Hunt. What about mother and Sebastian? Won't you miss them?"

"Mommy, yeah," Huntington took a moment to answer as he spoon fed himself. "Daddy, not so much."

"Well, I think mother and Sebastian would miss you boys, very, very much!" Renea replied, Huntington and Felix both rolled their eyes as the both began to shove food into their mouths. Renea laughed as she began to eat; a blissful feeling.

One hour later, Renea and Hades were back in the throne room while Felix and Huntington were taken to her room to sleep with her. Hades let her sit in the throne once more as he sat on the floor. She could feel him watching her carefully. Her heart beat rapidly, her face flushed, and her eyes followed in whichever motion he would move.

"I have a deal," Hades whispered, his voice was like honey to Renea's ears. She swallowed. She tried to remember that he was the one that kidnapped her and her brothers and let his monsters torture her though it wasn't coming easily for her.

Renea sat up straighter in diamond throne, crossing her right leg over her left. "I'll let you and your brothers go home but you have to agree to come down here every summer and that I'm allowed to visit you every few days," Hades waited with impatience as Renea sat quietly, watching the fire burn hot. With one nod, Hades stood up quickly, pulling Renea off of the throne, picking her up and spinning her around.

A week has gone and past since she had agreed to Hades terms, she waited in her bedroom as she always did every night. Renea stayed up a little later to make sure that she wouldn't miss him. She knew sometimes Hades would sneak into her bedroom and watch her sleep or even climb into bed with her.

Renea jumped as she heard her windows close, she turned towards the greek god with a large smile. She had gotten strongly attached to the young god. She jumped from her bed, sighing as he wrapped his arms around her waist and kissing the top of her head. Hades carried her to her bed, placing her underneath the covers. He wrapped his arms around her as he watched her drift to sleep.
