Donghyuck's eyes fluttered open as he realised he was in a dimly lit room. His right hand was warm as he slowly turned to look at Aera who was holding his hand and sleeping on the chair next to his bed. He chuckled, making circles with his thumb on her hand, waking her up.
"Hey, love." He smiled.
He expected to greet him back sweetly like he did but instead got an angry outburst.
"Lee Donghyuck!" She pulled her hand away from him. "Were you out of your fucking mind? Do you have any regard for your safety? Answer me!"
"Bab-" He was taken aback again.
"No! Shut up!" She said. "You could've died you idiot!"
"Baby-" He started, but his eyes widened as she covered her face with her hands and sobbed loudly.
"We lost dad last night." She sobbed as he slowly sat up. "I didn't want to lose you too."
His heart warmed up as he inched his hand towards her, intertwining their fingers together.
"Hey...I'm sorry." He whispered.
"His funeral's next week." She sniffled, wiping her cheeks and looking at him.
"Hey, love..." He cupped her cheeks making her look at him. "He was a brave man, okay? He was an idiot sometimes but he was really brave."
She sniffled again and looked at him.
"Why is everything suddenly going so wrong?" She asked.
"I don't know, sweetheart." He said. "But one thing's for sure...this is just the start. There are a lot of things coming are way...and I'm not sure if they're all good things. And I want you to promise me one thing...keep yourself out of all the bad things, yeah? I can't lose you either."
She frowned, staring into his eyes as he caressed her cheekbones.
"And that means a no to the mission your dad gave you." He added.
There was a comfortable silence before he continued, "You know, it might sound very cliche but...I think I'm falling in love with you."
Her eyes slightly widened as she noticed how his eyes flickered down to her lips.
"Hyuck..." She looked down at his lips too.
"Stop talking." He said before he leaned in and attached their lips together.
The kiss was slow and soft, as Aera put her hand on his jaw, bringing his face closer. They finally pulled apart after a long kiss as he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and said, "I think you should get some rest. Go home."
"I don't think...I wanna be alone today." She said. "I know it's broad daylight but...I wanna stay here with you."
He smiled softly before he looked around and then looked at her. "But isn't that seat uncomfortable?"
"Not really. It's fine." She shrugged.
But Donghyuck wasn't convinced. He hissed as he scooted to the side a bit and patted the place beside him.
"Hyuck, stop moving- it'll hurt." She said and he shrugged in response.
"Hop on." He said.
"That's literally a bed for one person." She chuckled.
"We can use it for two people if we just lay down close and hug each other." He said.
"What if the doctor sees us like that-" She started.
"Who cares?" He asked. "you're my wife and my first priority."
She gripped her stomach as she felt butterflies in them.
"Oh, come on~" He whined as he pulled her down on the bed beside him.
