Arroyo

I watched as Zach flew up into the dark chasm. I wanted to be up there, with him, doing something. I couldn't though, I couldn't tell him why I was down here.

I paced back and forth, wondering when I was going to be let out. I pushed my face into the crack between the rock and the wall, I could hear shuffling. I took a deep breath and opened my mouth to identify who it was, if there was one thing I was good at it was scenting.

I groaned as I recognized him, it was my older brother, Kennon. Kennon is what you'd expect in a good example big brother. I was probably going to get a pep talk. It was hard enough with my secret, and Kennon was next in line for the throne.

There was a rough grating sound as the rock was moved, my ear flew back as he poked his head in.

"How you doing baby brother?" He said

I didn't answer him, I just padded past him and towards my secret hollow. nobody knew about it but me, I just had to loose Kennon off my trail.

"Come on Arroyo! Dad only wants what's best for you." He said

"There are easier ways" I miffed

"Your downright refusal isn't going to help, you don't even try anymore!"

"That's because it's not working, there's nothing that motivates me anymore" I retorted

"Look... I know your still upset about Mom, but she's not coming back, you need to get that in you head" he said softer

This is exactly what I had been hoping too avoid. I fought tears as memories of my mother surfaced, it wasn't fair.

"You don't know that" I struggled "you weren't there"

"She's been missing for seven years, you're almost fourteen, face it, she's gone."

"It's not my fault you have no faith!" I cried out

"It's not my fault you can't fly!" He barked, his voice echoed throughout the tunnel, there you have it, my secret is known.
