Chapter Thirteen

John Pov
I went to school for the rest of the week and was not surprised when I didn't see Alex's face. I was concerned, yes but surprised? Not in the slightest.

But I do believe I was surprised by myself when on Friday after school, I decided to walk to his apartment.

While I was in the elevator, I saw a vomit stain on the floor and couldn't help but snicker.

I walked in the hall and then knocked on Alex's apartment door. Alex swung open the door and sang, "HelloOo?"

I should mention he wasn't wearing his coat either, so that was a surprise.

"I just stopped by to say-
are you..
are you drunk?"
I asked, glancing to the bottle in his hand.

He shrugged.

"I'd say tipsy but call it what you want." He hummed, his words making small slurs.

"Jesus Alex, why?"
I asked.

"You wanna try it?"
He asked, holding the bottle out at me.

"Umm..no. I-"
"Come on, it's pretty fuckin' good. At least in my opinion." Alex said.

"..Why would you want to get drunk? You have school you know." I said.

"You're not my dad." He muttered, walking further into his apartment.

I groaned and followed him, closing the door behind me.

I went into his room, which was a little more clustered than what I've seen but still relatively clean nevertheless.

"Are you okay?" I asked, looking around his room.

"Just peachy," He replied, taking a swig from his bottle.

"Jeez Alex, come on man," I said, taking the bottle from him.

He groaned and stuffed his face in his pillow. I looked at the half empty bottle and sighed. I glanced back to Alex, who tossed his pillow away and backed into the corner of his bed, aka the corner of his room.

I set the bottle down on his desk and asked, "What the hell are you doing?"

He was curled in a ball, his head buried in knees.

"Alex?"
I asked again.

I sighed.
"What are you doing Alex."
I practically deadpanned.

"I want to die."
He told me, lifting his head and giving a short smile.

"Why would you-"

I cut myself off as I saw a tear stream down his face.

I was honestly so baffled by the sight of him crying that I stumbled back and almost fell on my ass.

"Shit-" He muttered, wiping his face. "A-are you alright?" I choked out.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm okay. Everything is just..fine." He said, still trying to wipe his face.

What the fuck do I do?

I went over to him and just like..
hugged him.

I didn't know what else to do.
I've never been good at talking about emotions and I know for a fact that Alex wouldn't do so great at that either.

He shifted, returning the hug and putting his head on my shoulder.

After a odd amount of time of us sitting there hugging, Alex whispered,
"Not gonna lie, this is pretty gay."

I snickered and said,
"Yeah,"

After that, we pretty much immediately pulled away from each other.

He coughed a bit and put his coat on and wrapped it around himself and used it as a blanket sorta.

"You look like an idiot right now."
I told him.

"Yeah? Well at least I don't look like an idiot all the time," He said, smirking lightly.

"You're still slurring your words and I can't take you seriously." I said.

"Nobody ever takes me seriously."
He told me.

"I took you seriously when you had a switchblade to my throat." I said.

He snickered and said,
"Well besides from when I'm threatening people."

"Fair enough."
I muttered.

I glanced to him.
Is he my best friend now?
I think I qualify him as my best friend now.

Alex got up and stumbled to his living room and sat down on the couch. I followed him and sat down, close to him.

I mean..
I sat close to him because..
we're friends you know?

It's no big deal or anything.

Just friends.

Just two friends being..
Heterosexual in the living room.
Yup.

Completely platonic.

"Wanna watch TV?"
Alex asked.

I shrugged.
"Sure,"

I would explain the conversation we had about watch we should watch but I must say the conversation was explicit and quite obscene. I mean, very explicit.

But in the end,
we started watching Nice Guys.

I looked over to Alex who was watching the movie and seemed to barely process what was going on. I wrapped an arm around him and pulled him closer to me.

He looked to me and grinned.

Best friends.
Being completely heterosexual in the living room.

Yup.
