[Chapter 22] One Year
Leo sighed, a child clung to his leg, refusing to let go.
"Let go, Harley."
"No."
He tried to keep walking despite her clinging to him, but eventually, he became frustrated.
"Let go."
"No."
She was stubborn, clinging to him tightly.
"If you don't let go, I'll tell Curtis."
"Daddy loves me, he won't do anything!"
Leo hated that she was right. Curtis spoiled the girl rotten. Anything she wanted, he would give. Anyone that upset her, he would try to kill.
"Then I'll tell your mum."
She immediately released him.
Rhea was terrifying as a mother, even the child acknowledged that.
"Please don't tell mummy."
"I'll think about it after you do your work. I have a job, you know. My whole life doesn't revolve around tutoring you."
She nodded with tears in her eyes and scrambled up to her desk to work.
Leo could only sigh. Why was he in charge of teaching her? He felt like he didn't get paid enough for this at all.
He looked out the large open arc to the village below. An eagle flew by casually as beasts walked through the main street market, buying jewelry, weapons, colossal meat, and salt. The Black Wind Tribe was vibrant with life and colors.
At the town square, music from public performers filled the air. Beasts watched, clapping while some danced along.
The smells of freshly made food filtered through the town. Beasts sat in to eat the new foods being advertised. Some were celebrating various occasions, some went on dates, and others sat with their friends or alone, just enjoying the meal.
Leo glanced to the outskirts of the Black Wind Valley, where another town center was being constructed with new housing for displaced beasts to move into.
The black snake ferals could be seen occasionally, their black tails standing out. They wore armor and patrolled the city.
"Uncle Leo, I'm done!"
Leo turned his attention back to Harley and read through her math worksheet.
He ruffled her blonde hair with a smirk. "Good girl, you got it all right! You can go tell Curtis."
She beamed and took her test back before speeding off.
Her little legs tapped through the large palace halls as the guards smiled, seeing her run through barefoot.
Korrin and Nik walked through the halls, coming across the little princess.
"Princess! No running through the halls, you might hurt yourself!" Korrin said strictly.
"Let her run, she's not that fragile," Nik rolled his eyes.
"Daddy Nik!" she squealed, running up to him. Nik lifted her up and spun her.
"See, she likes me better," Nik taunted Korrin, whose face darkened.
"Well, Rhea likes me better, so it's fine. I'll concede this time," Korrin muttered.
Nik's smile stiffened. "Who wants her to like me?" He did, but he was never going to admit that to Korrin.
"Then you wouldn't mind me telling you she has a tail kink. You'll never need this information, but I felt like saying it," Korrin said with a smug look on his face before stalking off. Nik's face flushed, his imagination running wild.
"Daddy Nik! I passed my math test!" Harley said, showing him her test paper.
"Little Harley is so smart. Have you shown Curtis?" He would be so happy.
She shook her head. "I'm going to find him now!"
He set her down on the ground. "Slow down, okay? If you hurt yourself running, Daddy will be very sad."
She nodded with a grin on her face before skipping off. At least it was better than running.
.
Dali and her mates were busy moving into their new home. It had taken months of hard work, but their efforts had finally paid off. The house was spacious, with enough room for all of them to live comfortably.
"Dali, where should we put this?" Nobel asked, holding a large, ornate vase.
"Over there by the window," Dali directed, her voice filled with excitement. "It'll look perfect with the sunlight shining through."
As they arranged their belongings, Dali watched her children run around with a full heart.
"I can't believe this is really ours," Dali said, looking around the room with a smile.
"It's close to the palace, Rhea gave us a pretty good location," Nobel added.
"If course, she pampers me the most." Dali said satisfied.
"When our pups grow up, they can become the princess's mates this way." Thorne, her second mate said.
Dali nodded, if her pups could marry the princess she would be less worried about their future.
.
"Shuu, can you hand me that blanket?" Bai Qingqing asked, her voice soft. She was pregnant again, and so doing her chores became harder and harder.
"Of course," Shuu replied, passing her the soft, handwoven blanket.
Parker was out hunting with his cubs and so it was just the two of them. Shuu hugged her body tightly from behind.
She could feel him getting hard behind her.
"Shuu.."
"Elara said it's better for the cubs if we do it every three days."
Qingqing sighed and gave in, she hoped Parker and the cubs wouldn't be back anytime soon or it would be too embarrassing.
.
In the meeting room of the palace; Rhea sat at the end of the round table, a large beautiful stained glass window behind her letting coloured light into the meeting room.
She was ethereal, the men at her round table held their breaths as she read through the preposition.
Her dark hair was held up behind her with cold jewelery, dainty gold chains crossed her forehead in layers and her silk dress was beautifully made with a deep cleavage held by a good belt.
Her arms were adorned with gold bands and her wrists with beaded bracelets.
Leo stood behind her silently watching the room.
Beast City had been destroyed, and so the survivors came to seek refuge in the black wind valley.
This was a jurisdiction with one Queen. Right now at the table sat the leopard king, the tiger King, the scorpion kings, the eagle king, and the new wolf king.
The issue that arose from the destruction of beast city was this - how would the kings rule in another territory?
Rhea finished reading the preposition and chucked it across the room. The stack of papers his the door and the 6 kings were silent.
"Don't send shit like this and expect me to be happy, this is just beast City 2.0." They wanted equal territory and independent rule in her territory, that was laughable.
"Beast City is gone, this is black wind city. You are all kings of your respective people but I cannot allow the segregation of species. In this city, I plan to make sure everyone can live anywhere. You can keep your title and your riches and your reputation, but do not expect this to be a second beast city."
Her words sent a chill down their spines. But Korrin was the first to speak, standing up he bowed to her, "naturally my Queen, but please reconsider giving each king an area to rule over."
Rhea glanced at Korrin, she was silent for a bit, animals were territorial, but segregation by species was something she did not want to do.
"Then how about we appoint mayors?" Leo spoke up.
The others didn't understand his words, but she did.
"Korrin, I will let you split the city equally. However, each species cannot only reside in one area, make sure there is a good mix in each area, you no longer rule just your species, you ruke over everyone in your area."
Korrin bowed again, "yes, my Queen."
The leopard king who had watched passively finally spoke up. "On the issue of currency."
Leo spoke up, "yes we have decided to replace collosal cores with coins, gold coins."
The kings looked curiously, Rhea clapped her hands and a few servants came in and placed a sample of gold, bronze and silver coins on the table.
"I have made a set amount which is ready to go into circulation. It allows beasts who do not hunt to gain cores. The cores will be kept in a safe and will be used to exchange with other tribes and by our warriors but will not be used by civilians."
Muir looked at the gold coin, it was quite shiny.
"Now a set amount has been made we will not longer make any more , the value will remain constant."
"That's fine with me, we lost all our cores in beast city so this is the best way to start." Muir said.
"I'm fine with this." The leopard king was next.
"I support this."
"Me too."
Rhea felt relieved, taking in different people with different beliefs was difficult, bu she needed them to know, this wasn't beast city.
"In that case, we will now talk about the laws we need to implement." As her words dropped the servants handed out parchment with a list of laws for the kings to read through.
.
The round table disbanded for a break and Winston watched Rhea talk to Leo casually. His eyes traced her body, in the sunlight her figure could be seen through her dress, he could not concentrate the entire meeting for this very reason.
"You're hopeless." Muir said with a sigh. "I'm glad I'm not like you"
"I'll ask her soon." Winston said, he had been too busy at beast city, now they were living so close to each other he finally could ask her.
Muir could only sigh, Winston was too insecure for his own good.
"I really want you to be happy Winston, you know she'll take you if you just ask her."
".. how's Bai Qingqing?" Winston asked changing the topic.
"She's fine, shuu's pups are nearly due so she's been craving strange foods."
"Take care of her well, you guys have come along way."
".... You're staring at her again."
Winston's head snapped away instantly his face bright red.
Muir only looked at him in exasperation.
Hopeless.
.
The meeting was held till late that night and when Rhea was finally able to get back she went to look for one person Curtis.
He slept in her room for most of the summer, he was always cold to touch which relieved her of heat, and she really liked his tail.
Stumbling in she fell into a heap of his tail. He rose from his slumber seeing her beautifully curled up in his tail.
"The meeting ran over late." He said.
"Hmm, I'm glad it's over now."
"Harley passed her math test today." He told her.
"That's good, she's so smart like Harvey."
He was quiet, he knew it still hurt to think about him, "she has both your brains, I wish she had your strength I'm worried about her."
Rhea didn't say much, her strength wasn't inherited it was acquired, she would never want her daughter to acquire such a thing.
He could see how tired he was so as she fell asleep he helped her take off aher clothes, and let her hug his tail as she usually did. His mark under her left breast and a scorpion mark on her left arm.
A/N: Slower release schedule now since I still need to release princess simulator. For some reason I keep imagining Leo falling for a mouse, idk why.
If I ever make a beast world original novel, she will pick up a sheep and a mouse as mates.
Winston is so repressed I worry for him, fan service next chapter. Cya x
