Amelia's First Meeting

Amelia was in her Napa Valley mansion, running around with her head cut off. The mansion was a mess, thanks in part to California having another magical mishap. She had tried to use some Doctor Facilier voodoo to get spirits to do her cleaning. It was the first time California had gotten a spell right on the first try, so she decided to go to the wine cellar to find the perfect bottle to celebrate.

However, the spirits got caught by Louisiana, who flipped shit and used her own voodoo to vex them back to the underworld. When California discovered what happened, she tried to resummon them. But, she didn't summon the same spirits and they decided to trash the house instead of clean it.

This prompted both Amelia and Louisiana to vex the spirits back to the underworld. After a brief scolding from Amelia, the three women began cleaning the old fashioned way. Cali kept apologizing to them, making both of them laugh. After all, Cali still did a spell right and that was huge.

They actually had a lot of fun cleaning, Amelia played some music and the three danced and sung. It made the time go by faster and the manor was quickly becoming a glittering palace. The maids had arrived towards the end, helping with some last-minute cleaning.

The states had left not long after the maids' arrival, allowing Amelia to fix up everything how she wanted it. Don't get her wrong, she loves her children. But sometimes, they don't really clean to her standards. She had finished fluffing the pillow in the final guest room when she received a text from Canada.

'We're down the street'

'Ok, just pull in the driveway'

Amelia pocketed her phone as she waited at the gate. In the distance, a red truck revved down the road. She noticed the four people in the car, laughing as she used her super sight to watch the antics. Matthew had been turning down the radio when Gilbert turned it back it, Ludwig was facepalming while Ivan was just bopping silently.

As the car pulled up to the gate, Amelia opened it for them and guided them inside. The bags shuffled in the bed of the truck, giving the harness keeping them in a good workout. But, once Canada parked his car, everything seemed to be smooth sailing.

Matthew was the first to hop out of the car, running to Amelia and enveloping her in a hug. He picked her up and twirled her around, kissing her head and holding her close.

"Ah! Mattie, holy shit!" Amelia laughed as Matthew finally put her down.

"I can't help it, eh! I was worried aboot you!" Matthew then turned serious, "don't ever go silent again! I was so scared that your government hurt you!"

"No worries, Mattie! I'm fine! I'll feel even better once this is all sorted out," Amelia confessed. Gilbert ran up next and basically tackled Amelia.

"JOU SCARED ZE AWESOME ME TO DEATH!!! ZE AWESOME PRUSSIA NEEDS HIS AWESOME FRIENDS!!!" Gilbert glomped onto her. Amelia rolled her eyes and laughed, seeing Ludwig pinch the bridge of his nose.

"How was the trip?" she asked, looking to the stoic blonde. He chuckled and shrugged, seemingly much better after being addressed by her.

"It vas good, very scenic und quiet,"

"That's why I chose this house, we aren't going to be disturbed out here," Amelia then unlatched Gilbert's arms from around her waist, Prussia plopping onto the cement below with a cute huff.

She waved her hand and quietly demanded them to follow. The four obeyed, following Amelia up the driveway. They gawked at the mansions before them.

(the first picture is the guest house, the second is the main mansion)

"Vow, zis us beautiful!" Gilbert shouted as he ran up to the door of the guest house. Amelia chuckled into a closed fist and gestured her hand to the building.

"This is the guest house, all nations will be rooming here. Across the way is the main house, where there are swimming pools, tennis courts, media rooms, videogame areas, the main kitchen and dining hall, and where I will be sleeping. The conference room is in there as well," Amelia explained. Ivan seemed more speechless than ever, his eyes wider than dinner plates.

"Do you own anything other than mansions?" he asked. Amelia looked to the side and was quiet as if she actually had to think about it. A few maids shuffled in the background, getting the towels and other toiletries prepared for the guests.

"I own a few apartments and penthouses, but a majority of my houses are mansions," she answered. Amelia stretched out her arms and yawned, "well, I'm going to relax a bit. I spent the last few hours cleaning this place," a maid Amelia didn't recognize came up to her.

"Lady Amelia, supper is being cooked at the moment. The chef said it should be ready in around a half-hour," she spoke softly. Amelia quirked her brow, none of her workers EVER called her 'Lady Amelia'.

"Um, may I ask your name?" Amelia questioned as she tried to get a better look at her face. She just stepped back and kept her head down.

"I'm the new maid Georgina hired, Lori," she responded as she walked off.

She shook off the strange encounter, chalking it up to nerves. After all, it isn't every day you approach a superpower. Amelia took a deep breath and turned to the nations, smiling softly.

"Supper is being served in thirty minutes, so why don't you all go find your rooms and unpack. Each nation has their flag respectively on the door, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. One of my maids will come to fetch you from your rooms when dinner is ready," Amelia walked off and the men just did as told.

Dinner was yummy, just some fried chicken with mac n cheese and collard greens. The four ate happily, discussing how they planned to reveal Amelia. A multitude of ideas were thrown out for discussion, most with Gilbert feeling the need to make it a big splash. While Amelia loved to make anything a huge surprise, she wanted this time to be different.

The plan was simple, Matthew would greet the nations as they settled in the guest house. It would take a day or so for all of them to show up, so Amelia would disguise herself as a gardener to keep with the surprise. The next day, after everyone was settled, the meeting would finally be held. There is when Canada would reveal Amelia as a surprise guest. Amelia would wing it until it was time for America's presentation, which is when she would reveal herself as America.

When the sun rose over the horizon, Amelia saw the first few cars pull into the guest driveway. In one car was Austria, Hungary, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland. While the other car had the East Asian family of China, Japan, both Koreas, Vietnam, Macau, India, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Amelia put on her gardening outfit, which consisted of a yellow tee and dark overalls. She put her hair in a hairnet and threw on a red wig styled in a bob cut. She then put in some amber contacts, making her eyes rust orange. She put on some red lipstick and a pair of black square glasses. She topped it all off with a sunhat, grabbing a basket and going to the garden. She did snag a peach from a tree, eating it for her breakfast.

That's when more nations flooded the driveway, in the span of an hour most of Europe and Asia were accounted for. She knew that everyone else would be here by the day's end, so she just continued to tend to the garden. Ivan frequently helped her carry heavy baskets, making the nations who didn't know who she was a little upset.

Ivan was in love with Amelia, basically, everybody knew at this point. So the fact he got over her so quickly made him look not too great. Ivan especially earned scowls from the other female nations, mostly from his sisters. They really liked Amelia and didn't like this new girl.

They didn't know she was the same girl~

By sundown, every nation had arrived. Most of the nations showed up to dinner, a few catching some much-needed rest caused by jetlag. The dinner was yummy and actually quite delightful unless you were Ivan. The poor man was scolded a lot, especially by France. Something about how love shouldn't be so easily thrown away.

Ivan took every scolding, he knew the truth and that nothing else mattered. He didn't move on from Amelia, he couldn't even bear the thought of moving on. Amelia was listening in from the hall, blushing madly. She felt bad for Ivan and even thought about breaking cover early, but she held firm to the plan.

As everybody headed to bed, they didn't know the destruction that awaited them.

The day of the meeting finally arrived and Amelia was going crazy in her closet. She had no idea what to wear to her first world meeting. She combed through her clothes a multitude of times, contemplating wearing a dress. She didn't want to risk flashing anybody, as she was known to be extra squirmy when her thighs weren't covered.

At her witts end, she used her phone and called Ivan. The taller nation just finished wrapping his scarf around his neck when the phone rang. Seeing it was his sunflower, he quickly picked it up.

"Hello, sunflower? Are you-"

"VANYA HELP MEEEEE!!!"

Ivan nearly dropped the phone at the shout, panic lacing Amelia's voice.

"What's wrong?!" he asked worriedly as he looked out his window towards the main house.

"JUST COME TO MY ROOM!!! I NEED HELP!!!" she hung up abruptly. Ivan rushed out and made his way to the main house, taking note of that odd maid from the first day just wandering around. He wanted to ask her what she was doing, but Amelia sounded like she was in trouble, so he let her go.

It would turn out to be a fatal mistake.

Ivan rushed to Amelia's room and bust open the door, finding Amelia on the verge of tears.

"Sunflower?"

"I CAN'T DECIDE WHAT TO WEAR!!!"

He sighed in relief when he saw that she wasn't hurt, but a little upset that she seemed so upset about something so little. He smiled softly and knelt beside her, picking up a striped shirt.

"This will be nice with a pair of black jeans and sneakers,"

"Isn't that too casual?"

"Nyet, they would not care. You could dress it up with a fancy coat," Ivan looked around and picked up a beige one, smiling as he handed it to her. Amelia blushed and giggled.

"Thank you, Vanya!"

"Any time sunflower!" Ivan got up and went to the conference room. On his way down, he once again saw the new maid going into the servants' courters. All the maids had left already, so he figured she was just going to grab her stuff.

He failed to notice the small package in her hands.

Ivan took a seat at the table, letting the spot next to the head available. Canada was next to arrive, as well as Germany. The two nodded to Ivan and helped set up the projector, the room silent as they did so. As all the nations took their seats, Ivan sent Amelia a text to be at the door.

The meeting was about to begin and everyone had taken out their written presentations. Canada approached the podium and lightly banged the gavel, getting everyone's attention. As the room got quiet, Ivan walked over to the door.

"I would like to thank everybody for coming here to our meeting! Before we begin, I wish to introduce a special guest," he nodded to Ivan, who opened the door to reveal Amelia. The shocked nations seemed unfazed until an unholy screech came from Ukraine.

"AMELIA!!! YOU'RE OK!!!" the big-breasted nation ran up to her and enveloped her in a hug. Belarus was quick to follow, giving her a tight squeeze.

"Where are the bastards who hurt you, I'll take care of them," Belarus had that glint in her eyes that showed that she meant business. Amelia laughed sweetly and waved her hand, dismissing the offer.

"I'm fine, Natalia. You shouldn't be worried about me, I'm a big girl ya know," Amelia winked playfully. Belarus laughed softly and rolled her eyes, seemingly amused by the statement. Vietnam was next, running to Amelia and hugging her. All the female nations hugged her tightly, making Amelia smile.

Canada walked up to her and guided her to the open seat next to the head, smiling as he pulled out the chair for her. Everybody who had been up quickly went to their seats and sat after her, happy to have seen Amelia again.

"Today, Amelia will be presenting for America," Canada explained as he took his seat as the head, "now! Let us begin, eh!"

Time went idly by and each nation presented their ideas for global warming. Some were more informative than others, but Amelia enjoyed herself. She loved hearing all the different ideas from her peers and writing down notes. She felt more productive as she added input to some presentations, even correcting a miscalculation on Japan's.

"Und now, ut us Amelia's turn," Germany left the stand and Amelia got up.

The world fell silent as she approached the podium, laptop in hand. After connecting the correct wires, she pulled up her home screen, which was a photo of all her children wearing matching 'Jones Family' t-shirts at some park.

"AW, ARE THOSE ALL YOUR CHILDREN?!" Belgium squeaked. Amelia laughed and nodded, pulling up slides.

"THEY ARE TOO CUTE, ARU~"

"Thank you, Yao," Amelia chuckled as she pulled up her presentation labeled 'H.E.R.O.E.S'.

"Heroes?" Canada questioned. Many of the nations wrote down the title, and I say most because Greece had fallen asleep.

"Yep, Heroes. It's a personal project of mine that a few of my children have been working on," she clicked the next slide, "Heroes is an acronym for Hydro Electric Radio Ozone Earth Shield. My plan is simple, take renewable resources and convert them to ozone,"

"'ow do you plan to do zat?" France asked as he continued writing.

"Using high voltage," she clicked the next slide which showed a prototype for the gun, "by collecting renewable energy of all types, we can convert them to ozone by putting them through treatments of extremely high voltage. By decomposing the oxygen molecules we collect and subjecting them to high voltage, it creates artificial ozone," she clicked a key, showing a chart.

"How will it help the global warming issue?" Britain questioned.

"I'm American, doll, what better way to put ozone into the atmosphere than with a gun," she clicked again, "a laser to be exact. Due to the extreme amounts of electricity, it would take a lot to make the ozone, I calculated to be 11-Billion Watts for one fully covered globe. That's enough electricity to power New York City for an entire 24 hours,"

The countries continued to write down the details.

"Ve~ This idea more amazing than pasta!"

"Aw, thank you Feli! With HEROES, global warming could have a fix. After doing some minor calculations, if it goes off at least once a month, it could buy us a few decades! If it were to go off twice a month, the polar ice caps could be restored in as little as a century! This would also build morale to convert to renewable and clean energy sources, thus decreasing our problem at the core!"

Amelia was excited, everybody seemed to adore her idea.

"I wirr tark with my boss, he wirr want to be a part of this," Japan stood up and clapped. More nations stood up and clapped as well, making Amelia blush. She finally felt like one of the gang as she looked to Ivan, who was clapping and giving her a proud look.

"Tell us, dear, how on Earth did you come up with such a brilliant plan?" Hungary wondered. Amelia smirked a bit and closed her laptop, unplugging it from the cords.

"Funny you should ask, you see-"

BOOM

Amelia didn't even get to finish her confession. An explosion stopped her mid-speech and shook the entire room.

"What the bloody hell is that?!" Britain screeched. Amelia looked out the large window, seeing the servants' courters up in roaring flames. Amelia's eyes widened as she pulled the fire alarm, turning to the other nations.

"Everybody out of the house and do NOT go near the servants' courters! Go, go, go!" Amelia stated sternly. All of the nations present began to pack their things quickly and leave the room, Amelia snatched her laptop and followed close behind. The fire was quickly spreading thanks to expensive tapestries she had collected over the years.

As everyone lined up outside, Amelia began to take note of all the nations present. The house behind her was nearly engulfed in flames as she did a count.

She faltered as she did a recount, and another one, and another one.

It was unmistakable, there was one missing.

Who the hell is missing?

Her mental question when she saw Israel looking around, as well as the other nations from the Middle East. Her eyes widened and she looked back to the building, Iran confirming her fears.

"Where's Asadi?!" he shouted. Amelia growled and pinched the bridge of her nose.

Of course, Afghanistan would be the one to cause her trouble. She put down her purse and pulled out a handkerchief, tying it around her head like a bandana and covering her nose and mouth.

"I'll go get him,"

"Nyet!" Ivan caught her arm, "I will not let you go back in there!"

"Ivan! I'll be fine!" Amelia gently pulled away. Her gentle smile may not have been visible, but her squinting eyes made it obvious her smile was there, "I'll be out in a jiffy!" Amelia ran back in as Ivan watched. He was about to run after her, but a few beams fell in front of him.

Amelia maneuvered around the rubble, yelling for Afghanistan by his human name. She went back to the meeting room to find he was under the table, so she crawled over to him.

"Amelia?"

"Yes, it's me. Where were you that you didn't evacuate with the others?" Amelia held out her hand and gently dragged Asadi to her. Once they stood up, they began to run back to the entrance.

"I was trying to get back to the meeting from the bathroom, but I couldn't find it. I must have taken a wrong turn. When I got back everybody was gone and the flames were basically down the hall," Asadi held Amelia back as another beam fell right in front of them. Amelia nodded as a sign of thanks as the two rushed down the stairs.

But, Amelia's foot broke through the last wooden stair, causing her ankle to get caught. Amelia tried to yank it out and did, but horribly scraped it. Asadi turned back to her to see her limping, looking up at the ceiling that was about to cave.

"Asadi keep moving! I'm coming as quick as I can!" she began to hop, clearly in pain from her ankle. The man didn't obey and ran to her, feeling the floor shake as crack under them. Asadi enveloped her in a hug as the floor gave out, taking the blow as they hit the cement basement.

Ivan, who had been pacing outside, saw as the ceiling caved in. The gorgeous mansion was reduced to a flaming pile of rubble. His eyes began to tear as he tried to approach the now burnt home. But, Sweden, Germany, Greece, and Canada had to hold him back as firefighters put the flames out.

Back under the rubble, Asadi was still clenching Amelia. The ceiling had collapsed in a weird way, allowing air to flow freely to them. They had landed in an air pocket and were extremely lucky.

The two sat up, Amelia trying to stand, but Asadi caught her. He took the handkerchief from around her face and used a flask of water to clean the wound. He then gently wrapped it with her handkerchief, trying his best to be gentle.

"You should rest," he spoke softly, almost nurturing. Amelia smiled softly and nodded, using her coat as a pillow. As soon as she fell asleep, Asadi smiled at her and stood up, looking around for the source of the fire. He gently moved a beam and found the remnants of a pipe bomb next to a burnt paper.

He felt his stomach twist that someone would deliberately blow up a fine mansion, especially one that seemed to have such a caring owner. He frowned as he realized this and walked his way back to Amelia. He noticed how she slightly shivered, hugging herself as to keep warm. He laid beside her but didn't make an attempt to touch her, letting his heat radiate off him without much physical contact.

Amelia only slept for two hours before her mind began to buzz. Asadi took immediate notice of her shivering, it wasn't the same as before. Now, it was as if Amelia was shivering in fear. He looked over her and noticed she did have a slight burn on her hand. He didn't think much of it.

Until her whimpers distracted him from her wound.

"Sam," she whispered. A tear streamed down her cheek and her eyes clamped shut. She abruptly turned around, causing Asadi to basically jump back, "S-Sam!" she cried. Asadi knew that she was having a nightmare, so he made attempts to wake her up.

"Amelia, you are asleep!" he shouted as he gently shook her. She didn't respond and just kept quivering, "Amelia! Wake up!" no response, "AMELIA WAKE UP!"

Amelia's eyes flung open and she shot up, looking at her surroundings.

"What happened?"

"You kept weeping in your sleep,"

"I was?" she asked as she wiped her cheeks.

"Yes," Asadi helped her settle back down. As soon as Amelia caught her breath, Asadi felt compelled to ask, "who is Sam?"

"Huh?"

"That's what you kept saying when you were sleeping, the name 'Sam'"

Amelia looked away and curled into a ball.

"He was a friend," she spoke softly.

"'Was' meaning?"

"Meaning he died a while ago," Asadi looked to the side, feeling guilty for prodding. But, he just couldn't help it. He felt the need to be curious about Sam.

"I'm sorry, did he die peacefully?" Amelia shook her head, "oh, how did he pass?"

Amelia was silent for a few minutes, debating on telling Afghanistan. She decided to and see what would happen.

"9/11,"

Afghanistan was not expecting that answer. After all, Amelia was twenty-one, how could she remember a man when she was barely able to talk. Also, wasn't one of her children an orphan from 9/11? Asadi had so many questions, so he started asking them.

"You are so young, how could you remember such an event?"

"On the contrary, I am much older than you think, Afghanistan,"

No more questions were needed, Asadi knew just by that statement alone all the answers.

Amelia wasn't some human, Amelia was America. Her "child" must have been a state, all her children were probably states. Everything about her made sense now: how she was so educated, how she knew so many languages, why she could play so many instruments, why some nations thought she looked familiar.

Amelia began to tear up, making Asadi look at her.

"Amelia?"

"I remember the attack like it was yesterday,"

Amelia had been walking through the streets with her buddy Sam, a newlywed who was also a volunteer firefighter. That's how he and Amelia had met. The two were instant friends and she was even invited to his wedding. His wife hated her, something about how she was going to steal him away from her.

It sounded crazy to Amelia, she didn't love Sam. So, how could she steal him? Well, she didn't yet realize there was more than one way to steal someone.

The two had just left Central Park when they heard something overhead. Amelia looked up and saw the plane rush by, the force knocking her down. The explosion that came from the North Tower made her head spin, causing her to nearly faint. As Sam caught her, she was quick to steady her footing.

"What the fuck was that?!" she shouted as she ran towards the Twin Towers. Sam dropped his cup of coffee and was right behind her, surprised her tiny legs could carry herself that quickly. When the two got to the sight, Amelia felt sick. Her mind was spinning, but her thoughts all told her the same thing.

Save your people!

Amelia ran into the North Tower, putting her flannel over her nose. She used her super-strength to pry open the elevator doors, getting out those people before flying up the stairwell. She carried down people in tens, saving sixty people before the second plane hit.

She fell to her knee and blood began to flow out her ear, the world silent for only a few minutes before Sam picked her up by the shoulders. Amelia shook her head and the world sprung to life once again. She ran into the South Tower, collapsing a few times to spit up blood as her chest turned to char.

She did not stop, even as blood glomped out of her mouth. Amelia had to save more people, she had to save more than she did with the North Tower. Unfortunately, the universe wouldn't award her the time to do so. As she got to the 80th floor, she was quick to lift up some heavy pieces of rubble. She didn't notice Sam in the corner until he called for her.

"Amelia! This beam is too heavy! I need help!" he yelled. Amelia ran over and used every bit of her energy to lift the beam. Sam took out an elderly woman, a small boy, and an infant girl. Amelia smiled as she saw Sam lift the children in the front and had the old lady latched to his back.

Amelia felt it, her smile falling as she felt the wave of nausea hit her.

"Sam! Get close to me!" Sam obeyed her and Amelia put up a shield as the floor gave out. The group was plummeting to the ground, but they would not be crushed by the rubble. Amelia wouldn't allow it.

As the protective bubble touched down, Amelia felt the remains pile on top of her. Her shoulder exploded as she felt Pennsylvania get hit. Amelia still held strong, even as the North Tower fell on top of her. She held that shield like her life depended on it.

She was not going to let these people die.

No matter what, Amelia held firm to that idea. Over a week had passed and Amelia still had not replenished herself. She did not sleep, not eat, not drink. The old lady offered her trail mix and candy, she refused. Sam offered her water, she refused. No matter what, she was not dropping her shield.

Finally, after twelve days under the rubble, Amelia felt movement. They were going to be rescued! Sam noted how some small stones were moving above them, smiling as well.

"Amelia, we're going to be ok!" he happily yelped. Amelia nodded, clearly exhausted. Sam noticed the dark circles under her eyes, her sunken in cheeks, her frail and shaking figure, "Amelia, put down the shield, it will be ok,"

"No, not yet," Amelia's voice was raspy from lack of water.

"Amelia, you trust me don't you?" Sam spoke even softer, "you need to rest," he patted the spot next to her, "come on, lay down," Amelia looked back up to the top of the rubble and back to Sam, nodding. She kept the shield up as she laid at Sam's side, feeling her eyes become heavy.

She didn't know that once her world went dark, so did all of theirs.

Amelia awoke in a hospital bed, multiple machines hooked up to her. She sat up and rubbed her head, feeling sick despite having an empty stomach. She looked at the door and saw a nurse come in with a needle, once they made eye contact, she was quick to get the doctor.

Amelia had been asleep for six days, her nation powers kicking in the second day. Amelia felt good enough to walk within an hour of waking up, and she was released from the hospital not even two hours later.

She tried to call Sam but found the number was no longer in use. She got home and took a quick shower before she went to ground zero. She saw Sam's wife there, crying her eyes out. Amelia approached her slowly, feeling a horrid feeling come over her.

"Bianca," the woman turned to face Amelia, who still had a hospital band on and had a bandage on her neck, "where's Sam?" the woman went red and slapped Amelia across the face.

"You bitch! You did this! You stole him from me!" Amelia held her cheek, stunned.

"I-I don't understand,"

"He died in the rubble! He and the others were crushed! The only one to survive was you! You selfish whore!" Bianca stormed away and Amelia looked to the rubble. Sam's voice echoed in her head.

'we're going to be ok!'
'you trust me, don't you?'
'come on, lay down,'

Amelia felt her tears fall down her face, her entire body aching.

She couldn't even save them, so many of her people were now dead.

She failed everyone.

She failed her boss.

She failed her children.

She failed her people.

She failed her friend.

She failed.

She was a failure.

"I paid for their funerals, the little boy and infant girl were the cheapest and the families were so kind. The elderly woman's family was super grateful too,"

"I-"

"Sam's funeral was the worst, that bitch told everybody I was to blame because I survived instead of Sam. Sam's sister defended me, telling Bianca off for marrying Sam for his body and nothing more. How I was chosen to survive so I could honor Sam because she knew that Bianca wouldn't. Sam left his entire inheritance to me, which pissed her off. But, she got the house and everything in it. I donated the inheritance to multiple charities, which only got her madder,"

Amelia huffed, an empty laugh forced from her lips.

"Amelia,"

"To this day, 9/11 was the worst thing that happened to me. I didn't contemplate suicide that much ever in my life, not even during the Great Depression. I felt so safe until that day," Amelia began to cry and her voice began to crack, "I was a failure to everybody. I was blamed by everybody, especially my boss. The only thing that kept me alive was my children,"

"I am so sorry," Asadi apologized. Amelia looked at him with a hallow smile.

"Asadi, it wasn't you. You didn't do that to me, and I don't have any resentment towards you or your country for it,"

He gently wrapped an arm around her. It felt strange since he didn't normally hug women. But he needed to, especially after Amelia shared something so personal. He felt awful that Amelia went through that alone, she didn't have anybody but her children.

Her own boss blamed her for a national tragedy?!

Who could do that to their own nation?!

She cried softly, allowing a softer side of herself to show through to him. Asadi stayed by her side until he felt a bunch of pebbles fall onto his head. He looked up and saw more rubble coming down, quickly moving he and Amelia to the side as rescue workers drilled a hole into the air pocket.

Amelia was fast asleep as they hoisted her up to safety.
