Chaotic Year
Hey guys,
It's been a while. And by a while, I mean a while. I seriously haven't updated this in more than two years.
It's been a chaotic year for my band, and not just because of corona. Here, I will provide a list of things that went wack this year.
-our head director missed the last week of last year plus graduation and May camp because his sister died
-we had three days to teach the freshmen how to march before we had to do auditions and start learning the show. Usually we get at least a week
-our football team randomly went to crap
-we almost lost our homecoming game
-it rained
-our (illegal) rehearsal after prelims of our first competition (McAllen) didn't have enough water bottles for everyone, and then within five minutes of rehearsal starting, it started pouring rain and rehearsal was cancelled
-assistant director suddenly and unexpectedly "resigned" for "personal reasons" the week after McAllen
-as reigning champions of the Mustang Nightrider Invitational (Mustang), we perform last at prelims. It was windy and our cardboard boxes and props were blowing around. The field was marked differently than most fields. Instead of two sets of 8 at the beginning, I marched 6 and 10. We still won prelims
-after prelims at Mustang (4:30), we acted like maniacs for five hours, then immediately went to warm up at 9 and had the best warm up so far in the season
-one of our drum majors dropped and chipped a trophy from Mustang
-on the way to a football game, one of the buses broke down. All four other buses had to stop and wait for another bus to arrive to get the rest of the students. When we got to the game, we had three minutes til halftime so we just performed the spirit show instead of the contest show. The only things we played in the stands were the entire show and the school song. Then it started pouring raining and the band left
-our rehearsal before State Prelims was at 12 PM-2PM in Texas heat and humidity on a black practice field
-the plan was to shower and eat after rehearsal, getting to the hotel around 3- we left the practice field at 3:45 and had enough time to change and eat without showering and jump on the buses. Visual warm up was awful. Musical warm up was the sexiest it's ever been
-we performed last at State Prelims and didn't make it to finals because one visual judge decided we were terrible while the others had relatively good opinions- it was our best musical run by far, too
-after the first semester ended, we got a student teacher who's replacing assistant director and we didn't get time to know him well because corona hit
-lots of other issues I'm sure y'all have experienced because of corona, like missing UIL and spring concerts and all that jazz. Sad boi hours. Also I'm sure I forgot about stuff that happened
And that's a wrap. Would be interesting to see what weird stuff has happened to y'all. Our State performance of the show is featured above. 7:30-7:33 features the best musical moment in the video. Hope you enjoyed!
