Glitched
Something I wanted to write whoops
***
Reality always seemed elusive.
Ty snickered as he leaned back in his chair, watching Adam fail at the same jump for the hundredth time. His stuff dropped, and his character re-spawned at the start. Ty yawned, quite bored, then proceeded to chug the can of Red Bull at the corner of his desk. This was great — nothing like staying up at 1 in the morning playing video games.
"FUCK!" Adam's screams were defeating.
"You suck, dude," Ty replied, yawning. He tossed the can of Red Bull back into the trash can.
"Hey Ty, you holding up alright?" Jason interrupted.
Ty yawned in reply, "Mmm...fine. Just a little sleepy, that's all. Editing and shit like that has really caught up to me."
"Hey, if you start falling asleep, tell us okay?" Jason said, voice soft. "We'll end the session now if you'd like."
"Nope, I'm good," Ty hummed.
"Dude, just pinch yourself and you'll wake up, simple as that," Adam suggested. "Always worked for me."
Ty looked down at his pale arm that seemed to be a pasty colored white because of the color of his monitor. He pinched himself, feeling the sting. Biting the corner of his lip, he simply replied with, "Yeah." He proceeded to slam his fingers on the keys.
Minutes of Adam's yelling had passed; Ty's eyes began to feel heavy. His head dropped foreword, making a clang on his desk. His eyes impulsively shut, Jason's worried voice lulling him into sleep. God, he needed this so much. Even if it was only a few minutes of sleep, he knew he would be refreshed. His computer mouse plunged foreword out of his hand, but he didn't hear it drop onto the floor.
"Hey Ty, you okay man?"
"God dammit he isn't waking up, stab him! Ty, you literally have five god damn seconds before I stab you in the back!"
Ty's eyes snapped open. He was laying somewhere; he was laying on a bed. Two people hovered over him. Ty rubbed his eyes, sitting up. He gazed towards his left, making awkward eye contact with a male that appeared to be Adam's Minecraft skin—but oddly in human form. He gazed towards his right and the same could be said about the other male, except he was adorned in Jason's Minecraft skin, "Thank god, finally awake. I thought I was going to have to stab you—again."
"Stab me?" Ty asked with concern. "Why the fuck would you do that?"
"We have to finish this map after all. C'mon, I'm not looking foreword to this lava parkour," Jason concluded, tugging at Ty's arm.
Without question, he followed.
It wasn't a long walk, but it was quite odd. They passed diamond walls, flooring that was cobblestone—odd things that would only be found in that computer game itself: Minecraft. Ty was hesitant to ask where they were, so he pinched himself. He felt the sting—he was awake.
"Here we are! So fucking excited!" Adam cheered, racing towards the edge. Ty was quick to follow, but stopped. He didn't want to go towards the first jump—his stomach felt queasy as he looked down towards the boiling lava. The jumps were made of gold, butter as Adam liked to call it.
Adam went first, making the long jump and landing perfectly on his feet. Jason went next, but had over-calculated the jump distance and landed in the lava. It was all so realistic—the flames, the red pool below their feet, everything.
"C'mon Ty, jump!" Adam snickered. "What are you, a baby?"
He watched as Jason's body disappear. He gulped, "W-What if I fall—"
"Are you dumb?" Hearing that coming out of Adam's mouth hurt him a bit. "What the hell happened to you? C'mon Ty, you love these kinds of maps!"
"Where are we?" Ty finally blurted out, heart pounding. The queasy feeling in his stomach returned.
"You don't know where we are?" Jason was behind him now. Ty turned around. He wasn't burning, he didn't even look phased.
"Dude, just pinch yourself and you'll wake up, simple as that."
Ty pinched his arm—the sting had came. He could vividly remember falling asleep at his desk; him holding his computer mouse, the leather chair, the fucking Red Bull he'd chug. It was all real, he knew it was real!
Jason finally spoke, "Parkour map, dude. Are you feeling okay? Did that fall hurt you?"
Adam jumped back, barely making it. He didn't look phased, either. Ty's heart pounded.
"Maybe we should head back home," Adam suggested. "Maybe Ty's glitched."
Jason glared, defensively whispering harshly, "He can't be glitched. Maybe it was just a bad respawn."
Ty felt his throat go dry. Bad respawn? Was there no concept of death?
"C-Can—" his words came out stuttered, "—can we go h-home?"
Adam furrowed his eyebrows, "Let's tell Seto about this, he may know what to do."
