Alfred was late to the World Meeting. This was the first one since Caleb's death, so no nations were upset when an extremely tired and disheveled America walked through the doors. Everybody kept their eyes to the floor, not daring to break this bitter atmosphere. The meeting was quiet for five minutes until Germany softly coughed and stood up. He looked to his normally happy ally and knew Alfred could not speak without crying. So, wishing to bring some sort of relief to his friend, he took charge of the meeting.
"Ve are all avare of ze recent passing of Caleb, ze vorld has lost a sveet spirit. Vhich is vhy zis meeting vill focus on terminal illness und acts ve can do to prevent zem. Uny objections?" Germany asked. Nobody said a word. Two hours passed of this painful meeting, and America still hadn't even looked up. England and Canada were to his sides and saw why he hadn't looked up. America was hiding his tears and was doing a good job of doing so. Finally, a lunch break was called and everybody left. Everybody except America. He laid his head on his arms, and dozed off.
...
America was floating around in an empty void, looking around for something. He floated up the void, down the void, left and right, even twirled. There was nothing but black. Then laughter could be heard, a child's laughter. America cocked an eyebrow and turned his head, seeing Caleb laughing at him.
"Play with me, Alfie! Come on!" Caleb floated over to America and hugged him, "please play with me, Alfie!" Caleb took America's hand and showed him to a playground. It was the hospital playground, where they had first met. Caleb disappeared, and a memory started to form.
Caleb was sitting with his mom, his mask and IV irritated him. He was bouncing with excitement, and his mother seemed nervous.
"Are you Claire?" America asked, walking up to them. She instantly stood up and nodded, shaking America's hand. America then knelt down to be face to face with Caleb, "you must be Caleb then! I'm Alfred! I'm your marrow match so you can get strong and healthy!" America was wearing a Captain America tee and jeans, so he showed a lot of his muscles. Caleb was gawking at him like he was, in fact, Captain America.
"Wow! You're so handsome! Like a superhero! Do you save lives?!" Caleb asked excitedly. America laughed.
"Kinda. I work with people from around the world to solve problems. So you could say that!" America then began to wheel Caleb around, his mother by America's side.
"Mommy! I have a superhero for my marrow match! He's a real superhero! I want to be just like him when I grow up!" Caleb exclaimed excitedly. Both Claire and Alfred chuckled as they kept moving.
Alfred smiled at the memory. A smile that hadn't graced his face since Caleb's death. He then turned his head to see another memory.
He and Caleb in the children's lobby, a chair, and a guitar at the front. Suddenly, Julia went to the chair with a solemn look on her face.
"I'm sorry kids, but it would seem Mr. Herb won't be coming to the hospital again, his wife has gotten pregnant and he is focusing on her for the time being. I don't think anybody will come to play for a while," there was a chorus of "aw's" from the crowd of children and parents. Alfred pouted and stood up, catching the attention of everyone in the room.
"I can play something if they really want to hear someone sing?" the children cheered the loudest they could and Alfred smiled. Julia handed him the guitar and Alfred tuned it to his liking, "hm, let me think," Alfred smiled and began to strum.

Nobody was expecting such an angelic voice from some teenage boy wearing a red hoodie, jeans, and white slip-on sneakers. The kids all cheered happily and some of the mothers made googly eyes at Alfred. He stood up and bowed, gently placing the guitar on the stand and walking over to Caleb. The boy's smile was huge and his eyes were sparkling.
"That was amazing! You're amazing Alfie!" Caleb cheered and hugged Alfred. Alfre chuckled and hugged back.
"Thanks, big guy!"
The memory changed again
Alfred was doing paperwork in his study. Suddenly, his assistant Kane knocked on the door.
"Come in Kane!" the young man entered the room, with Claire in tow.
"Sir, this young woman wanted to see you," Alfred finally looked up to see Kane and Claire. He put down his papers and nodded.
"That's fine, Kane. Why don't you take a break? I wish not to be disturbed during our guest's visit. I will page you when you may return," Alfred smiled and Kane smiled back, "Claire, please sit," Alfred gestured to a chair. Claire sat down and nodded to Alfred, "what did you need today?"
"I'm sorry to bother you, Alfred. It's just, my husband is currently serving. I was hoping that you might of connections and could get him home, just until after Caleb gets better! I think Caleb would recover nicer if his father was by his side," Claire begged. Alfred typed her name into his laptop and her husband popped up.
"I'm sure I can pull some strings. If it means Caleb will recover quicker then count me in!" Alfred yelped happily. He smiled sweetly and he typed something into his computer, "I'll send off an email to his troop's base and some other military officials. Cody deserves to see his son," Alfred continued typing. Claire stood up quietly and walked closer to his desk. Alfred was busy typing with a mighty speed to notice until Claire gently snagged his face.
"Donating your marrow must take so much energy out of you. You shouldn't work yourself so hard. I'm worried for your health too," Claire rubbed Alfred's head. America smiled and nodded.
"I just need to finish sending out emails and signing the documents in that stack. Then, I'll rest," Alfred smiled and stood up, hugging Claire goodbye.
America's settings changed to the hospital garden, where flowers were blooming. Caleb was sniffing them as Alfred was wheeling him around. They suddenly came to a part of the garden where blue daisies were blooming. Caleb's eyes lit up.
"Alfie! I wanna see those! Please! Pretty please!" Caleb begged, looking at Alfred. Alfred gulped down his sorrow and nodded, wheeling Caleb over. Caleb sniffed them and giggled, "they smell so amazing! I think these are going to be my favorite flower! What are they?"
"These flowers are blue daisies," Alfie answered, masking his sadness. He remembered Davie as soon as he saw the cursed bloom.
"What's your favorite flower, Alfie?"
"I love roses, especially the white ones. I like how they represent innocence and purity. Blue daisies represent much the same. But I don't have the brightest experience with them. Though I won't deny they are beautiful," Alfred picked one and put it behind Caleb's ear. They began to go back to the hospital entrance, where they met up with Claire.
"What a pretty flower, sweetie!"
"Thanks, mommy! Alfie gave it to me! He said they were blue daisies! I love them! They remind me of Alfie's eyes!" Caleb exclaimed, jumping in his wheelchair. Alfred blushed and Claire laughed loudly.
Suddenly, he was at the hospital with Claire again. The doctor was looking at charts with a sad look on his face. Alfred was fidgeting and nervous, he didn't appreciate the look on the doctor's face.
"I'm sorry, but his condition has worsened since the last test. We give him a few weeks to live. Please accept our condolences," the doctor bowed his head. Claire began to cry and Alfred was quick to hug her. He helped her up and nodded to the doctor.
"Thank you for everything doctor," Alfred said as he rushed Claire out the door. Claire continued to cry into Alfred's shoulder as he patted her back. Alfred began to tear up but choked them back. As soon as Claire composed herself she thanked Alfred and began to walk towards Caleb's room, "I'll meet you in there," he walked to a quiet section of the wing and dialed a number.
"Alfred, to what do I owe the urgent pleasure?" it was the president. He had called him on his personal phone, which was made for emergencies.
"Listen, boss. I need to get a soldier home pronto. Like, I want him here within the week. His son is dying and he deserves to be here to say goodbye," Alfred's voice was breaking, but he remained sturdy.
"What's his name?" the president didn't even question it. He knew if Alfred was about to cry, that was reason enough.
A flash appeared and it was Alfred punching the punching bag at the gym. He was going insane on it, his muscles bulging and sweat glistening his body. Many of the girls were gushing at him as they were working out, and the men were admiring his stamina. Suddenly, a man tapped on his shoulder. Alfred quickly turned around and saw a man dressed in fatigues smiling. Alfred smiled and they both gave a strong brotherly handshake.
"Sorry dude, I'd hug ya but I'm all sweaty and gross," Alfred unwrapped his hands and feet of the tape and grabbed his towel and water bottle, "Cody, right?" the man nodded. Alfred had his dog tags on him, so Cody saluted. Alfred, of course, saluted back and guided him to the locker room.
"Danke, for letting me come early. Jou really are too kind," Cody said sitting next to Alfred. Alfred smiled and nodded as he wiped his sweaty forehead and drank his water.
"No problem dude. I have the perfect plan to surprise your wife and Caleb. I'm just proud to meet ya!" Alfred reapplied some deodorant and tied up his sneakers, "we can discuss it over lunch. My treat!" Cody smiled as they headed out.
Memory after memory of Caleb's smile began to flash. When it all stopped and a glow was in the black infinite distance. Alfred ran to it and saw Davie and Caleb.
"Alfie!" Caleb ran up to Alfred and jumped into his arms. Alfred twirled him around and hugged him tightly.
"How you doin big guy?" Alfred asked. Caleb pointed to Davie and giggled.
"We have been having so much fun! I can run and jump and play again! Davie said you played just like I am! So, we're both happy! He also said it was ok that you didn't fulfill your promise! He knew you cared!" Caleb jumped down and dragged Alfred to the field. It was the same field where he had met Davie. Alfred began to cry but smiled.
"This is where you like to play?" Alfred asked. Caleb and Davie nodded as they dragged Alfred to play with them. It seemed like happiness finally returned to Alfred as the world around him began to fade.
"We love you, Alfie!" Davie and Caleb yelled. America smiled and waved at them, crying when he finally opened his eyes.
...
America saw all the nations looking worriedly at him and Canada and England shaking him gently. He picked up his head and rubbed his eyes.
"Sorry dudes, guess I was just a little tired," America felt water when he rubbed his eyes. He looked at his hands and saw tears, and sighed. Canada helped America up and Germany nodded.
"America, jou should go home und rest. Ve vill adjourn ze meeting early," all the nations left except America, Canada, England, and France.
"Lad, you alright?" England asked worriedly. France wiped America's tears with a handkerchief and worriedly smiled. America nodded as he weakly smiled.
"Ya, I am now. I know he's going to be ok," America stood up and his stomach rumbled. The four nations laughed as Canada grabbed his hand.
"Come on Alfie. I'll make you pancakes!"
"I vant to 'elp too! I will make my amazing crepes!"
"I'll make some-"
"NO" France and Canada both screamed, making America laughed. They all left the building and America felt the warmth reach him. He smiled as he felt a breeze blow by him with a faint whisper.
"We love you Alfie...Thank you!"
America looked up and smiled. He nodded and proceeded to walk with his family. He knew they would be ok.
