**Alec Catchup Part Two**
A/N: So sorry this took so long! Also, I'm kind of running out of pictures I want to use... So these are silver pipes.... From an entirely different book series. Do you know it? *laughs evilly*
They Ask You Out:
You'd been working with the New York Institute in tracking Tobias for over a month now. That sounded like a long time just to search for one person, but you'd actually gotten a lot done.
You'd been able to "trap him" sort of. Without his knowing you'd limited the places he'd go to. You knew a powerful warlock who had been able to use their magic to keep Tobias from moving to different places, and prevented him from knowing he was being tracked.
That had taken a long while and now that that was done you'd restricted him to eight states, but now the hard part was figuring out which one he was currently in.
You'd been spending a lot of time with the three teens at the Institute. You'd been spending significantly more time with Alec. Since he was the oldest of the three when you went out on some sort of errand Maryse often told him to go along. This was both good and bad. You loved spending time with Alec, but this happened to be exactly what you feared. Ever since that day in the library you knew you had feelings for him.
You'd tried immensely hard to push these feelings down. It's not professional, you kept telling yourself. This is just business. Besides, he's a shadowhunter. All this was true, but it didn't stop you're heart from fluttering every time his beautiful blue eyes met yours.
After countless nights of staying up late tossing and turning over this dilemma, you decided you had to know. You had to say something. You had to tell Alec how you felt... Even if it might destroy this sort of friendship that the two of you had formed, you couldn't keep this in anymore.
So the next morning, after attempting to eat something, you headed to the Institute. You were there barely a minute when you were descended upon by the shadowhunters. You'd gotten used to this by now, and waited until a clear sentence came out of the clatter.
"What's going on today?" Isabelle asked.
"I'm going downtown to pay the warlock," you said.
"You haven't already payed them?" Jace asked.
"I didn't want to pay them before because I didn't know how much work they'd be doing. I didn't want to over or under pay," you explained.
You smirked at this statement as you realized what a pretty penny you'd be getting payed for this.
"When are you going?" Alec asked obviously intending to join you.
"Soon," you said. "I just need to grab something I left here."
You quickly dashed to the library, were you had found you spent a lot of your time in, and grabbed your watch which you had for some reason taken off last night.
You dashed back to the group to find that Jace and Izzy had dispersed leaving just Alec who was shrugging on a jacket. You smiled at him putting your watch on.
"Let's go," Alec said. The two of you walked out.
You were alone with him again. This is your chance to tell him, you thought to yourself. The two of you walked for awhile as you desperately tried to work up the courage to tell him.
"Alec," you finally said stopping.
He raised an eyebrow and stops as well. "Is everything alright, (Y/N)?"
"Yes... Well, no... Well... Sort of," you sighed in exasperation. "AlecIkindasortalikeyoulikeyou." you spit out in one breath.
He looked utterly confused. "(Y/N), I have no idea what you just said."
"Ugh," you closed your eyes and took a deep breath. "Alec, I... I have feelings for you, and I know this may ruin what friendship or relationship as business partners, but I really desperately needed to tell you."
His eyes widened with surprise. "A-Are you serious?"
You cringed. You were expecting a reaction like this, but it hurt a lot more than you expected.
"Yes," you said softly.
There was a long stretch of silence.
"Will you... Uh... Would you... I mean maybe... want to go out with me?" Alec awkwardly asked.
"Are you serious?" you gasped. It was your turn to be surprised.
He blushes faintly and nodded. You felt dizzying happiness. You're heart was beating out of your chest.
"Alec, of course," you said smiling and laughing with relief.
He smiled in a way that melted your heart, and you two headed off to finish your errand.
First Date:
Everything has been so busy that your date with Alec seemed like it would never happen. In fact, the two of you had barely spoken the last few days. You wanted desperately to talk to him, but the others didn't know and you never got a moment alone.
You were musing all of this as you stayed late eliminating places in the remaining eight states. You were in the library sitting on the floor. Maps were spread all around you, and your laptop was out in front of you.
You'd abandoned your shoes a long while ago, and your hair was a disaster. You were exhausted, but you had to get this done. Why? A voice in the back of your head taunted. You know what will happen when this is done? You'll leave, and he won't care. You'll never see him again. He probably forgot you had a date to begin with. You pushed the thoughts back, and tried to focus on your work.
Hours passed. You chewed on your lip until it bled. You had no idea what time it was, and you were starving. I have to finish... You thought.
In your distracted state you didn't hear the door open, or notice the figure above you.
"(Y/N)? (Y/N)? (Y/N)!"
When your name was called the third time you seemed to snap into reality. You looked up to find Alec standing over you. You felt suddenly aware of every single thing you could be self conscious about.
"Alec... Uh... Hi? I was finishing up some things..." you began to ramble. "Er... What time is it?"
"Just past midnight," he said.
You hadn't realized you'd been here so long. You ran a hand through your hair. Alec stared at you thoughtfully.
"I'll be right back," Alec said. You raised your eyebrow as he disappeared from the library.
He came back after a few minutes. He had a pizza box and a couple drinks in hand. You unconsciously began to move your things so he could sit in front of you. Alec smiled as he was sat across from you.
"You looked like you could use a break," he said opening the pizza box and handing you a drink.
"That's a understatement," you said happily welcoming yourself to a slice of cold pizza.
Alec was more than happy to help you relax and take a little break. You two talked and laughed. You seemed to be in your own little world. Wrapped in the hush of night and the glow of witchlight.
It wasn't a typical date. Sitting on the floor in a library eating cold pizza at midnight, but even though neither of you actually said it aloud this was more perfect than anything you could've planned.
First Kiss:
Everything was falling into place. You were so close to finding Tobias. Places he could be were dwindling. You were so close... You were working yourself ridiculously hard.
Despite this you and and Alec were still spending time together. Whether it was pulling all nighters or going on little errands you two cherished the little moments.
Nobody suspected anything was going on between you. With everyone else you two were professional, and to be honest you couldn't see it happening any other way. Your relationship seemed like something private... Something special just for the two of you. That said, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if this was revealed... Maybe a little awkward.
You were pulling another late night because you were so close. Tonight it wasn't just you and Alec. Izzy was also there to help. When you all had started she was a little freaked out by the way you and Alec worked. You worked quietly and efficiently. It was like you two could read each others minds. She eventually just kept working whilst being silently being weirded out.
It was getting late into the night. You were putting all the variables together. It was like that one huge infuriating math problem you get stuck on, but you were almost finished. That made sense... That didn't work... But that did!
"Oh my god..." you breathed.
"What is it?" Alec asked.
"We did it!" you whispered. "We got him!"
"Wait seriously?" Alec said looking baffled and excited.
"Yes! We did it! We did it! We did it!" you grinned.
Alec laughed with relief. Then he kissed you. You were too in the moment to be shocked, you just kissed him back. His lips were soft on yours, and you could feel the excitement in the air.
It wasn't until you two broke apart did you two realize what you'd done. You both blushed nearly immediately.
Izzy suddenly cleared her throat. "I believe I now know what you're 'all nighters' really are." she said with a smirk.
"Shut up, Izzy," Alec said as both of you blushed harder.
She just grinned and started to leave the library.
"Where are you going?" you asked.
"I'm going to wake everybody up and tell them we found Tobias," she said. "Besides, I think you two could use a few minutes alone."
With that she winked and walked out.
