A/N: I'm not the biggest fan of Shadowhunters (as you may know), but the guy who plays Alec actually looks like him to me. So... Yeah.
Your Species: Werewolf
Your Age: 18
How You Meet:
You were what you'd call an informant though many Downworlders thought of people of your occupation as spies. Especially the Downworlders who particularly disliked shadowhunters. What you did was simple. Keep informed about anything and everything in the Downworld, and if a shadowhunter needed any of that information they'd pay you to provide it. Despite most Downworlders opinions on the job you liked it. It payed quite well.
That's how you first met Alec Lightwood. Through your job. You arrived at the New York Institute. You'd been called there for god knows what reason. You would meet the shadowhunters in the Sanctuary. That's where most shadowhunters had you meet despite the fact that you could enter the Institutes. You had a feeling they just didn't completely trust you.
You entered the Sanctuary sitting in one of the chairs around the room. You ran your fingers absentmindedly through your hair, and checked your watch impatiently. Finally someone entered. A boy. Perhaps about your age. He had dark black hair and a pair of striking blue eyes. He leaned against the wall saying nothing.
Before you could say anything, three more people entered. A woman with the same dark hair and blue eyes as the boy who'd first entered, a girl with long dark hair and charcoal colored eyes, and a boy with blonde hair and golden eyes. They came to stand in front of you.
"Hello (Y/N)," the woman said.
You were surprised. You had been under the impression this was just a general exchange of information, but this woman knew your name... Was this something more personal than you'd assumed?
"Uh... Hello," you said.
"My name is Maryse. This is Isabelle, Jace, and Alec," the woman said gesturing to the girl, the blonde, and last the blue eyed boy.
You nodded your gaze lingered a bit longer on Alec then the others.
"We need to ask you about a warlock," the blonde, Jace, said suddenly.
"You'll have to be more specific," you said.
"We are aware you have had previous dealings with this young man," Maryse said revealing a photograph.
You felt your throat go dry. To say you had "previous dealings" with this warlock was a understatement. You'd, in fact, been in a relationship with him.
"Tobias Scott," you murmured.
"So you do know him," Isabelle said.
You nodded. There was no mistaking him. Appearing seventeen years of age, he had firey red hair and pale skin. But the most haunting thing about him was his eyes. The whites of his eyes were not white at all, but pure black. His irises were a luminous teal that practically glowed. Tobias Scott was a criminal. Fraternizing in the darkest kinds of magic.
"You trying to find him," you said. It was not a question.
"Yes, but he seems-"
"Impossible to track?" you interrupted. "He is."
The group looked deflated.
"But impossible things have been done," you ran a hand through your hair. "However, you'll need my help."
There was a hesitant silence.
"Of course," Alec said. "It only makes sense."
The others seemed a bit surprised, but nodded. And just like that, you not only got wrapped into the lives of these shadowhunters, but you also were pulled back into the world of Tobias Scott.
You Realize You Like Them:
Tobias was careful. He used countless spells to divert any tracking, but all the things he prepared for were magical. You knew the telltale signs Tobias left on a place. As much as he prided himself on being untraceable his presence left a sort of mark on whatever town he was in. Usually a change in weather, or people avoiding a specific place. This still did not make it easy to pin point Tobias's location.
You sat in the Institute library. Jace, Isabelle, and Alec were with you as you explained how Tobias worked and what signs pointed to his location.
"So how does this help us?" Isabelle asked. She slowly seemed to be losing interest in what you were saying.
"Weren't you listening? Weather patterns," you repeated with a slight sharpness.
"We can monitor weather patterns and look for sudden unexplained changes," Alec said catching your meaning.
You nodded smiling. Thank god someone understood.
"What if the weather change had nothing to do with Tobias?" Jace asked.
"Another thing we can look for is an apartment building suddenly 'closing for maintenance'. Tobias isn't fond of being around other people unless they're clients, but he doesn't buy permanent homes because they're easy to track."
"So we'll always find him at an apartment?" Alec questioned.
"Most likely..." you hesitated. "Does he know you're looking for him?"
Jace shook his head. "We were secretly asked to take charge of this because the others that have been looking for him gave up."
"Not surprising," you said bleakly.
"There's no point in my being here," Isabelle grumbled. "I'm going to get something to eat."
"I'll go with you. I'm starving," Jace said. "Alec? Are you coming?"
The blue eyes boy shook his head. "I'm
going to try to figure some more things out with (Y/N)."
Jace shrugged and he and Isabelle walked out. You brushed your hair out of your face feeling more awkward than you should now that you were alone with Alec.
"So, uh, some things that can make this easier," you began spreading a map on the table. "Is pinpointing spots that he may avoid or find appealing."
He came up behind you. Leaning over your shoulder to look at the map. You felt his breath on the back of your neck and it sent tingles down your spine.
"Where are some of these places?" Alec asked.
"Well he likes to go places he can get business..." you told him. "Places like here in New York," you gestured on the map. "Or LA... Places like that."
"And he avoids places like?"
"Well, I wouldn't say he avoids places, but small towns with small populations he rarely visits." you explained.
"Does he stay away from cities with Institutes?" Alec asked.
You laughed. "No, he likes to prove his superiority by doing his work right under shadowhunters noses."
Alec nodded. He brushed his fingers across the map, and his hand brushed yours.
That's all it took. That one touch was like fire through your veins. It made you heart beat widely, and your breath catch.
Alec seemed to tense a bit then murmured something about going to get something to eat.
You watched him go with a sigh. You were painfully aware you'd made a terrible mistake. You'd broken one of the most important rules as a Downworlder informant. Never fall in love with the someone you're working for.
A/N: I like this concept a lot, so sorry if that was a lot of nothing to you and not much of the real cute stuff. :(
I still hope you liked it though. Also, thanks to Aspired-Author for plot help. ❤️
