____ The Past ____

Morro woke up warm and content, snuggled into incredibly warm arms. Humming, he smiled, squeezing his arms slightly around the body practically draped across him.

"This was nice." Morro thought. Not a care in the world. Just warm and safe. Nothing could harm him here.

"Morro?" Came a slightly muffled voice from being pressed against the crown of his head.

That was (Y/N)'s voice. Morro realised he opened his bleary eyes and looked up. (Y/N) was wrapped around him as they both snoozed in bed together. "This is really nice." Morro thought to himself as he closed his eyes and went back to sleep. "Nice. Soft. Safe."

Morro let out a happy sigh. He could really get used to this. He felt so much love here in the temple.

(Y/N)'s breathing was surprisingly soft in her sleep, her face was relaxed and unguarded. (Y/N) shifting slightly in her sleep, murmuring and clutching Morro shifted again and murmured contentedly.

Morro resolved to enjoy the closeness for as long as he could before his sensei came to wake him for training. It was nice to feel cared for and loved. It's all he'd ever wanted.

When Wu rose, after a scant hour of sleep, the sun had only just broken the horizon, its pale light illuminating the room. Wu came looking for Morro. He wasn't surprised to find he was curled up aside (Y/N).

Wu couldn't help notice that (Y/N) and Morro were resting peacefully. Or that (Y/N) had relaxed completely. Even with Morro half-sprawled over her in his sleep.

In her sleep (Y/N) looked so innocent and impossibly sweet. Wu felt something inside him clench. (Y/N) looked a bit rough-and-tumble, hair dishevelled and still dressed in various bandages. A funny itch started in Wu's hands as if they wanted to smooth (Y/N)'s hair or touch her cheek.

It almost seemed a shame to wake them. But you must never put off until tomorrow what can be done today.

"Morro... (Y/N)... Time to get up." Wu called to them. Morro began to stir, rising to his sensei's call. (Y/N) however only rising because of Morro.

Wu couldn't deny that he felt more drawn to (Y/N) after their acquaintance. He had not been adequately prepared for the feelings this association would elicit infatuation, admiration and love. (Y/N)'s presence was comforting for the lonely spinjitzu master.

Wu admired her intelligence, her bravery and her compassion. (Y/N) held many unorthodox views, but each one fit elegantly into the mystifying puzzle that was (Y/N). When she was in the room, Wu had to exercise all of his control to not blush.

There were so many things to admire about (Y/N) that it took Wu a long time to realise that he found her attractive. Once the realisation struck, however, it was all Wu could think about.

The way she planted her feet when she faced an adversary, eyes blazing. Made Wu's breath catch in his throat. The way she took care of Morro no matter what. Made Wu's heart flutter. And the possibility that (Y/N) might be his beloved was reason enough to devote a large portion of his free time to developing a close relationship with (Y/N).

As Morro started running around to start the day. (Y/N) tripped over her own feet. Thankfully, Wu had good reflexes stopping her from tumbling to the floor just in time.

"(Y/N), are you all right?" Wu questioned her as he helped steady her. "I'm fine, Wu. I'll get over it. I just need to stand on my own two feet and hurry up my healing to get on with things." (Y/N) said out loud. Obviously a little embarrassed about tripping over her own feet.

"(Y/N), you can not rush healing." Wu replied. His eyes wandered over (Y/N)'s damaged body. He took in the endless pattern of purple and yellow bruises that adorned her body, every bruise in different stages of healing. Also, the fresh white gauze wrapped around (Y/N)'s left arm.

Wu swallowed hard, looking down at the bruised body of the bravest, most stubborn woman he'd ever met. He just wanted to wrap her up in cotton and keep her safe for the rest of her life.

Morro let out an adorable giggle at seeing them together which pulled Wu out of his awkward moment.

"(Y/N) why don't you stay by Sensei's side for the day?" Morro hinted with a cheeky grin. Clearly thinking that he was very clever. "After all it will be safer." Morro said with big puppy dog eyes.

"I'm not an invalid, Morro." (Y/N) said holding her head high. Morro giggled again and nudged his sensei.

"Maybe you could assist me with the children today?" Sensei Wu asked with a polite smile. Morro stares up at her, his innocent dark eyes wide with a pout on his small lips. (Y/N) let out a sigh of defeat and softly patted Morro's ebony hair.

"How could I say no to this face?" (Y/N) chuckled at the cute look Morro was giving her. "Yes!" Morro shouted, jumping around and cheering. "You spoil him." Wu said with a warm smile.

"What can I say. The little guy practically has me by the arm." (Y/N) sweetly answered. "I believe the term is wrapped around his finger." Wu corrected her. "Hm, I'll make a note of it." (Y/N) said as they stepped out into the courtyard.

Brad, Finn, Sally and Marla came racing over to (Y/N). "Hi, Sensei Wu's girlfriend. Are you all better now?" Finn asked her.

"I am feeling much better." (Y/N) responded. "Children why don't we start with some warm-up exercises." Wu stated and started helping the children with their warm-up routines.

"Hey, Morro. So what happened while you were away?" Marla questioned. "We fought a Grundel." Morro mumbled sadly.

"Whoa. A Grundel. They're the most feared and dangerous creature in all of Ninjago, with claws that can slice through steel, heightened senses that can detect their prey from meters away. It can also track the stealthiest of Ninja and once it has picked up your scent, there is no hiding from it." Finn recounted the tales he'd heard from around the village.

"Morro, why are you so sad? That sounds awesome!" Brad stated. "(Y/N) got hurt." Morro mumbled again. "Oh, um... Sorry, Morro." Brad apologised.

"All right. Stretches. First, the Swooping Crane." Wu said, instructing his class. Wu faces away from his students to demonstrate the stretch. Which Morro performs perfectly.

"You can't just say something that shocking and not tell us all about it. Spill the beans." Marla whisper-shouted at Morro. "Yeah, what else did you see?" Brad firmly agreed but also kept his voice at a whisper so as not to draw their sensei's attention.

"Now, Pinching Crab." Wu instructed as he, along with the students, change their poses.

"I got caught by the Grundal and (Y/N) held it off." Morro whispered to the others as he changed his pose.

"WHAT!?" Finn, Sally, Brad and Marla all shouted at once.

Wu quickly turns to look back at his students. Four of the five in different poses, Morro being the only one doing his forms correctly. "That looks like the Shocked Monkey. Bad form, more focus. " Wu scolds the four other students and again, faces away from them to demonstrate.

"Oh, Morro. That had to be so scary." Sally whispered so Wu wouldn't hear them. "Yeah." Finn said, simultaneously whispering his apologies to Morro. "Did you see?" Brad asked. Wu hears him and pulls on Brad's ear bringing him up to the front. "Ow, ow, ow! Hey!" Brad whined as he was pulled.

"What was so important to ignore my teachings?" Wu asks his misbehaving students.

"Uh, nothing." Brad lied. "It was nothing, Sensei." Sally said covering for Brad. "Yeah, we don't talk while you teach." Finn lied. "Everyone was paying attention." Marla quickly added covering for Finn.

"Since you all appear to be lacking in focus, then you can all share in the punishment." Wu said in a strict tone.

"What!?" Brad gasped. "Punishment!?" Marla bemoaned. "It was all Morro." Finn yelled trying to get out of trouble. "I was merely answering their questions." Morro explained to his Sensei.

In the corner of his eye, Wu noticed that (Y/N) wore a distressed look on her face. He took note of that and decided to ask her about it later. "The rest of the day can be used for chores. And tomorrow, for that matter." Wu informed his disruptive students.

The worried look on (Y/N)'s face faded. Punishment meant something different then chores in her upbringing.

Wu noticed the look on her face and realised what was going on in her head. "(Y/N)..." Wu started to say. "You understand that I would never intentionally hurt anyone. Especially a child. Right?" Wu asked her.

(Y/N) hesitates biting her lip. "I-" (Y/N) tried to speak but the words got caught in her throat. "My-" She tried again to explain but nothing was coming out. Her voice didn't want to come out.

Wu's heart breaks a little, that (Y/N) was unable to trust due to her past. Wu can see that too many before him have abused (Y/N)'s trust for Wu to be easily trusted. But Wu can see it in her. She wants to trust. It was evident every day when she stayed by Morro's side.

"It's alright, you don't have to talk if you are unable." Wu insisted. "Wu, you shouldn't rush her." Acronix scolded Wu as he and his brother stepped out into the courtyard. "Wu, she's just got over her illness you shouldn't rush her." Krux added, joining in with his brother's scolding of Wu.

There was the sound of solid knocking at the front gate cutting off Wu's flustered reply. "I-I have to answer the gate, excuse me." Wu stated before briskly walking towards the front gate.

Wu opened the gate to reveal his brother standing there with some luggage.

"Brother." Sensei Wu greeted Lord Garmadon. "Wu." Lord Garmadon nodded in recognition as he walked in carrying his luggage. It appeared to Wu that his brother was going to stay for a while.

Once Lord Garmadon was finished bringing in his luggage he turned to his brother. "How is she?" Lord Garmadon asked hesitantly, afraid of the answer he might receive.

Sensei Wu sighed. "I was able to heal most of the injuries she sustained. She needs to rest for the next few days and should try not to push herself too much for the next few weeks." Wu answered his brother's question.

While Wu and Garmadon continued their discussion on (Y/N)'s condition. The Time Twins nodded to each other both sharing an identical smirk. Acronix distracted the children, keeping a close eye on the sons of the First Spinjitzu Master to insure the pair were sufficiently distracting each other.

Krux made his way to (Y/N). "How are you feeling?" Krux asked her in a caring tone. "You're not overworking yourself are you?"

"I'm fine, Krux." (Y/N) commented with a light smile. There was no doubt in Krux's mind, that smile was of someone who'd been trying to stay strong for so long. Stepping closer to her, Krux nodded. "Are you sure? A grundel has been the death of many. Most would find it quite taxing. You shouldn't be forcing yourself so hard." Krux said with a concerned look on his face.

"I am not most people." (Y/N) replied, a smirk appearing on her face. "Where I am from you either die to your wounds or overcome them. There is no middle ground."

"We all have our secrets." Krux responded, he leaned a bit closer until he was looking into her eyes. "But I find that the eyes can reveal much about one's character."

(Y/N) blinked at him, unbothered by Krux's close proximity. "And what do you see, Krux?" (Y/N) questioned him staring right back into Krux's eyes.

"That you're sincere and loyal. Dangerously so, that it's almost worrisome." A gentle smirk made its way onto Krux's face. "Personally, I wouldn't mind if I had to keep searching for a little longer." Krux commented as he reached forward to tuck a lock of hair, back behind (Y/N)'s ear.

Before his hand could make contact the wind howls. The shudders blowing open. The doors rattled. The walls creaked. The children exclaim in surprise or fear, jolting everyone to look for the source.

Krux was forced to step away from (Y/N) if he didn't want to find himself on the floor due to the gust of the wind. Gasps from the children could be heard. Everyone turned to see what they were looking at. But all they saw were their slacked jaws and big eyes staring at Morro.

"Morro!" (Y/N) gasped, rushing forward, (Y/N) grabbed ahold of Morro before holding him close to her chest. Morro's elemental powers had flared up, stunning everyone except (Y/N) who was cradling the little boy in her arms.

Slightly rattled at the unexpected onslaught of the wind, Krux stared at the boy in the girl's embrace with Acronix unhelpfully cackling in the background at his brother.

Everyone watched as (Y/N) nuzzled Morro's nose with hers, the other two children were giggling at the sweet scene between Morro and (Y/N).

"Morro." Sensei Wu said, taking Morro from (Y/N)'s arms. "His Elemental Powers have come in." (Y/N) said ruffling Morro's hair. "I have Elemental Powers!?" Morro gasped, his eyes lighting up with excitement. "It would appear so." Sensei Wu said, still in astonishment.

"Aww! Welcome to the club." Acronix said, giving Morro a rather hard ruffle of his hair. Morro swatted away the younger of the Elemental Masters of Time.

Lord Garmadon turned his attention to (Y/N). He blushed when he realised what she was wearing were some of his old robes. (Y/N) turned to Lord Garmadon, noticing his staring.

"Oh. Um. Sorry about your clothing. Mine were ruined when Wu treated me. These were the only spare clothing. I hope you're not upset." (Y/N) tried to explain, thinking that she'd upset Lord Garmadon.

"No. I-I'm not upset." Lord Garmadon quickly dismissed that accusation. "It's nice seeing you wearing my clothes! I approve! My clothing looks good on you!" Lord Garmadon continued to prattle on trying to reassure her he wasn't mad.

Acronix let out a snicker at Lord Garmadon's obvious floundering. Lord Garmadon's face grew warmer from the embarrassment. Lord Garmadon cleared his throat and walked over to his luggage, hoping to cool down his burning face.

"I inspected the battleground and found that your instrument was damaged. I tried to see if I could have it repaired or replaced but the craftsmanship of such a device is beyond anyone I could find." Lord Garmadon admitted as he pulled out a wooden box and presented it to (Y/N).

"So instead I had something else created for you." Lord Garmadon said, opening the box and gently handing her a Miniature Koto.

It was beautifully crafted with ivory and gold inlays with thirteen silk strings that were strung over thirteen movable white bridged along the width of the instrument.

(Y/N) smiled gently at him and thanked him for the gift. "You're very kind. Wu is very lucky to have you." (Y/N) commented with a warm smile. Lord Garmadon looks away. Blood rushing to his cheeks, again.

Author Notes:

1.) Sorry, this took so long. I kept picturing the instrument in my mind but couldn't for the life of me figure out if it was a Miniature Koto or a Miniature Guzheng. They just looked too similar for me to figure it out. I'm not a musician. Also, hope you enjoy the little call out to Wu's teaching. ;)
