Chapter Twenty Nine- Forgetting
Teddy had stayed overnight and dropped the kids off to school in the morning as promised. The kids had showed off their WNBA star aunty to their friends before they would let her leave. Teddy was a good sport, she always took the time to say hi and sign autographs.
Once I said goodbye to Teddy, she caught her flight and headed home to her family, almost ready for their big move west. I couldn't wait for that, to perhaps see them a little more often in the school breaks if and when I could.
"Hey" Mia said finding me after school in my office "ready to go find you a girl" she asks with a wink, as she slowly did a sexual dance against my door frame. The sight of her dance moves makes me laugh so loud I place my hand over my mouth to stifle it.
"Take that as a yes" she says releasing the wooden door frame and walking over, hand outstretched "come on then Ms Keaton...let's go find you some come to bed eyes" she offers.
I smile, relieved that Mia could lighten the mood considerably. Tonight would be fun, the hunting, and the forgetting. Was it a healthy way to get over Leah? Probably not, but did it dull the ache for a few moments after twenty three hours of a day spent in physical and mental pain?! Yes!

The bar in phoenix was a gay bar, not just for the gays obviously but in most part it was full of the rainbow kin, and those who identified as straight were the most wonderful and beautiful allies, here with gay best friends and ready to be wing men and women. Tonight, my straight wing woman was Lydia. She insisted on coming out tonight since she is also single and ready to mingle, despite this being a gay bar.
"Now, who do with think is a straight man" Lydia asks as soon as we hit the bar. I look around and contemplate an answer but realise it's pointless "I don't see any right now but if it gets dicey you could always conduct a quiz and find out"
Mia places her purse down next to mine, she looks incredible in a little backless black dress, and my goodness if she wasn't my friend and flirting with the idea of Blake... I think I would look at her a lot differently. But then again, I didn't play with friends, and I was here to play.
"Morgan you are already getting a lot of looks from the table at the back" Lydia observes, sucking alcohol up a straw.
I whack her arm "stop gawping at them"
She looks back to Mia and I as we huddle around our drinks and do a little Reccy around the room "I think the gym squad are onto you Morg, probably your outfit" Mia says glancing down at my dress that clung to all the right curves.
"Your thighs look... firm" she muses.
Lydia looks down at my legs "how do you have legs like this...you don't even run. Do you even exercise"
I frown, offended "They are looking at all of us... and im a sports coach... I move all day long... but if you mean do I run...no...and you know my thoughts on running... a pointless exercise... like where are you running to girl?"
"To good cardio and firm thighs" Mia suggests.
I look back to her, eyebrows raised "have we not already discovered I have the thighs without the pointless run to nowhere"
Mia nods "sure did... you are correct... so how did you get them like that" she asks.
"Kickboxing" I remind them, and they both look like they note that down mentally.
"And is kick boxing not also as pointless as running" Lydia asks.
I frown "absolutely not" I say offended for my chosen exercise "I pretend I'm kicking and punching real people and it keeps me out of prison by suppressing the urge to do it in real life" I say casually.
They both look a little wide eyed.
"Annie would be quite dead then" Lydia remarks.
I take a sip of the cocktail Mia ordered. "She would have received as much as was given out...put it that way" I suggest.
Mia and Lydia look to each other "what does that mean" Lydia asks, but she is interrupted by a beautiful butch woman with a smile to melt a femmes heart.
"Hey ladies... I'm Sam...me and my friends over there" she said gesturing over to the table of buff gym girls "we wondered if you three would like to keep us company"
I look to Mia and Lydia, and smile tauntingly "sure Sam why not" I answer for all of us.
Lydia grabs my elbow as Sam walks back to her table, smiling at her success "I'm scared" Lydia whispers.
I try not to laugh as she frowns with it "don't be... they are all rather good looking... and I'm sure each one is more adequate in the bedroom than your gladiator was. They have the same build... what's not to love" I ask.
Lydia holds my arm as we cross the bar to their table "no penis for a start" Lydia whispers in response.
Mia laughs "it's not everything Lydia... and that's what straps are for" she counters.
I turn to Mia impressed with her knowledge, since I had assumed she was newly out, perhaps I was a little wrong.
"Let's play a game Lyd" I suggest.
She looks a little worried "what is it... I'm terrified to hear your response"
"Let's all be open tonight to something or someone different and if you feel a flutter down below... go for it" I suggest.
Mia claps "I love this game" she says excitedly.
"You would... you are bi..." Lydia replies. "And I'm strictly dickly" she adds, as if we needed reminding.
"Have no fear little sister... if you don't feel a flicker it won't matter anyway. You can go home as you came, alone... but come on...play the game. See where you are officially on the Kinsey scale"
"Fine" she gives in as we walk up beside four rather gorgeous women who worked out a lot, judging by the size of their muscles, and their thighs.
"Hi" I greet.
They all smile "hey" they reply, and Sam gestures for me to come over to her at the back of the table. I guess I was her first pick.
Mia is swooped up by the brunette with blue eyes who dressed in a shirt and tight jeans, and Lydia looks terrified to be chatted up by the rather handsome looking, dark haired, masc girl who had tattoos down her arms. Honestly, if she did indeed have a penis, Lydia would have already climbed her and swapped star signs. I had a feeling though, that Lyd would get a flicker of surprise sooner or later.
"So what's your name" Sam asked me.
I smile "Morgan" I reply.
She looks me up and down a little "you are insanely gorgeous do you know that" she asks me.
She leans closer as I respond "I hadn't heard that before...but thanks for letting me know"
Sam smiles amused "you're a funny girl are you"
I flick up my eyebrows "Tell me I am and I will believe it" I suggest.
She raises an eyebrow. "Feisty" she muses and she drinks a little of her rum and soda. "Do you always do what your told" she asks. I sense a flicker of Annie in her, the look in her eyes.
"I used too... but now I like to do the telling" I inform her.
She smiles "okay... I like that too" she says, and she places her hand next to mine so that our fingers brush "and I'm hoping you are single Morgan"
I sip my drink and make her await my answer, her lips curl into a grin as she senses my taunting of her.
"I am most definitely single" I finally reply. As soon as I do Leah pops into my head. The sensation that comes with it is guilt, for being here with Sam when my heart wanted Leah. My heart and my head were currently at war over her.
"Me too... can I buy you another drink" Sam offers.
I lick my lips "Why not"
Sam smiles and walks towards the bar as I sit back and finish my first one. I watch as Mia and the brunette become deep in conversation, and then I'm impressed with myself as I note Lydia and the the dark haired girl have moved to a booth beside our table where Lydia looks less worried about penis and more invested in the eyes she had fallen into. A genderless feature.
"Here" Sam says coming back with a cocktail in hand and a new drink for herself.
I take the drink and take a sip. "Thanks" I reply.
She moves back beside me, perhaps inching a little closer than before.
"So why is a gorgeous woman like you single" she asks.
I let out a little laugh "million dollar question Sam, and when I find the answer I will let you know"
"Bad break up" she asks.
I shake my head "I'm not here to talk about ex's" I remind her.
She looks to me curiously "what are you here for" she asks.
I run my little finger over the side of hers "you" I reply.
She looks surprised by my directness "are you propositioning me"
I cock an eyebrow at her which she smiles at "I want casual sex with no strings that doesn't last past midnight. Also, I don't want to ever see you again... not ever. If that sounds like a proposition you could agree too, then yes... I'm propositioning you" I reply confidently.
She is taken aback, but she leans forward and places her lips on mine, taking me by surprise this time, her hand guiding me toward her at my neck until we are pressed together and her fingers run into my hair. Her kiss is the acceptance of my proposition, and as she begins to kiss me further, our mouths opening to it, the sexual desire sends a flicker, and my head wins out this time. I push Leah so far down I can't see her anymore, and it wouldn't last long, but it was enough to get respite from the ache inside.

"Leah" ... "Lee" I hear, but I don't flinch. My arm gets shaken the. and I snap out of my thoughts, of Morgan.
"Yes" I say and I look around to see Spencer sit down beside me on the porch "you look nice" she observes taking in my more formal tight dark jeans and the white T with slightly rolled up sleeves. My silver necklace was hanging over the neck, which was currently being rolled over in my fingers. It had been a present from Morgan for Christmas, a pendant with the Andromeda star constellation on.
"I've lived in sweats for weeks so anything else would look nice at this point" i muse.
She looks to me and seems concerned. "Have you eaten... been to the gym... are you training" she asks like she's annoyed.
I look back and sit up straight, letting the necklace go "of course. I'm going to do what you said and throw myself into training and myself. I can't let this thing eat me alive, even though I'm feeling like it constantly is attempting too"
Spencer leans against me and holds my arm lovingly "Lee I want you to do something for me tonight"
I brace myself for whatever's coming next.
"Try and be in the moment... be with us and if you think of Morgan push it away and dance... forget her and dance with me all night until you don't have to remind yourself to smile... until you're Leah again" she begs.
I look into her eyes and smile weakly "I'm not sure if I can push Morgan away Spen. She's pretty much taken up root in every part of my brain...but I can most certainly dance and attempt to try"
We always danced, Spencer, Joplin and I. It was something we did from teenagers to twenty somethings, go to the clubs to just dance all night, bouncing off of the energy and filling our cups with joy for the week ahead. It had always worked, to dance, but I feared this time my problems were too deep, and too adult. I had found it was impossible to silence the will and want of a heart that was longing.

Forgetting each other ... an impossible feat.
***
As Sam rolled off of me, Leah was there.
***
As soon as the music stopped and we walked out of the bar, Morgan was there.
