Marks and Words.
Leac.
I sit in Maddy's room, on her bed while she sits across from me and Rhydian grabs snacks for us while her parents talk over the past hour. Maddy had grabbed my long white sleeved arm and was currently fiddling with it until she saw the edges of my soul mark on my wrist.
"What's this?" She asks curiously, looking at me through her lashes. She rolls my sleeve up as Rhydian comes in with a tray containing cookies, crisps, and also some sandwiches.
"Hey, Tom's got the same one, yeah Maddy?" Rhydian asks, setting the tray on the bedside table. "Do ya got words too?"
"Uhm... I think I should be heading home soon." I Stan and grab my bag from the floor before heading to the door. "I'll see you two tomorrow at school." I hurry down the stairs and out of the house, running into the woods and towards where Jeffries lives in a cabin in the woods. "Uncle J, I'm back home, where are ya?"
"In here!" He calls from his little office type room. "I'm working on a book. Wanna give it a read?" He asks, holding the paper out.
"Actually, I'm just gonna head to bed. I'll see you in the morning, yeah?" I tell him, putting my back pack by the door.
"Oh, yeah, of course. Are you feeling alright?" He asks, standing up to look me in the eyes. I nod and hug him lightly before I head down the hall to my room. "I'll see you in the morning."
Morning.
"Can I just stay home? You know what today is going to be like." I whine pleadingly to my uncle as we sit at the table eating breakfast, me slouching in my chair.
"Well, it is your second day... But it's also a dark moon... Hmmm I'm in a pickle..." He mutters. I hand him a pickle, that signifying an inside joke of ours from when I was younger. "Fine."
"Thank you." I get up, hugging his shoulders from behind and kissing his cheek. I was in a regular t-shirt and pj shorts, so he could see my mark clearly.
"Leac, have you found him yet?" He asks me, tracing my mark.
"No. Maddy said something about a friend of hers having the same one, but I don't think it'd be a good idea to..."
"Involve him in this life... I know it hurts kiddo, it'll be over by tomorrow. I better head out. Just know, you two will have to talk at some point. Love ya kiddo." He kisses my forehead as he shrugs his jacket on. "Don't wait up for me, I'll be staying out late."
"I know..." I whisper grabbing his arm and pulling him into a hug.
"Just stay resting. Don't answer the door for anyone. If something happens, call and I'll hurry home." He tells me, grabbing his keys.
"You sound like Father." I roll my eyes at his smile.
"He was a good man, Lea. Don forget that, he only lost his way because of..." He trails off, standing at the open door.
"False Love. I know. Hurry off to school. I'll keep the house safe." I hurry him off. He was like another father to me, which was understanding since he didn't have children and he treats me like his own. He is my guardian, and I know I can call him uncle or dad if I want, I just need to adjust to this whole move first.
My phone goes off, signalling me that someone was calling me. I look at the photo on the caller ID, seeing my favourite pale brother.
"Jackson, do Mother and Father know you are calling me?" I ask him instead of saying 'hello' to him, knowing he'd wiggle out of going near any subject of our parents and what they know or don't know of what he's doing.
"Actually, it's your favourite tan brother." A smaller voice says.
"Parker? Okay. Does Mother and Father know you're calling me?" I ask again, irritated by the dark moon and the weak and sick feeling it envelops me in. I sigh when I hear no answer.
"No..." He mumbles. "But you're my favourite and only sister! I have to talk to you or I'll go insane and prank the pack! They have to allow me some type of communication with you!"
"Why'd you call?" I ask him, rubbing the bridge of my nose.
"I want to go where you are! Your not the only one who knows Dad's being corrupted by Mum, and don't agree with their 'morals'." Parker pleads. "Please! Please let me and Jackson go and live with you and Uncle Jef!"
"No!" I exclaim. "I–we– are in another packs territory, they only let me stay since I only have Jeffries left. They won't let two young wolf bloods loose on their land!"
"Is that Leac?" Jackson's voice rings out on the other side of the phone.
"Boys, you can't come live with me. When I can live on my own and possibly be able to care for you two, then maybe. But I don't think that will happen any time soon. I'm sorry."
"Mother thinks that she made a mistake when raising you, so she's planning on using abuse and torture to shape us into sharing her morals. Derek and Henry are already corrupted... All that's left us James and us... Please Leac... James is already showing signs of going with them... Please..." Parker pleads.
"Parker. Jackson. I can't make any promises, but I'll talk to Uncle, and the Smiths. I'll try to take you away from them... I should have done that to start with... I didn't think mother would go that far..."
"We have to go, Mother and Father have returned home with the others... Bye Leac." Jackson rushes.
"Bye big sis, love you..." Parker says before hanging up.
I sigh before putting my phone on it's charger and going to sleep again. I'll speak with Uncle J when he returns home, an I'll speak with the Smiths tomorrow, knowing it was useless today.
Hours later.
"So let me get this straight. You want to let Jackson and Parker stay here? What makes you think your parents won't find out and try to bing them back? If they catch wind of this, they will kill you, Leac. Daughter or not." Jeffries tells me, sitting at the table with me.
"But Jackson and Parker are scared, Uncle J. Mother is abusing and torturing them to follow her path! I have to help them! I'm their big sister, I was suppose to protect them!" I plead.
"Leac, you're not thinking straight. The dark moons always make you think unrationally. We'll talk about this tomorrow." Uncle says, getting up from his set and patting my shoulder. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight Uncle J..." I whisper as he walks to his room. I didn't feel like sleeping any longer, no matter what the dark moon causes me to feel, so I grab my jacket and wall through the woods to clear my head of all the drama from the past few months. "Where are you?" I whisper, tracing my soul-mark. "Are you even alive now?"
Unbeknownst to me, someone heard and saw me, hidden behind some brush, out doing the same as me, clearing his head.
Third.
A male hid in the brush as Leac passes, tracing his own soul-mark on the back of his left hand. He listened to her silent words, feeling an itching sensation over his mark before it disappears as she goes farther away from his hiding spot. He looks at the mark.
"Maybe there is still hope..." He whispers to himself before heading home to his mums house where he heads to bed for school tomorrow.
