*Chapter One* [Pilot]
My body is not cookie cutter.
I'm not a twig and I don't have a thigh gap.
I'm also not apart of the itty-bitty-titty-committee.
I'm not obnoxiously tall but I'm not average height either.
There's not much about me that stands out, I'm almost always overlooked.
So, you can imagine my surprise when out of the blue three extremely handsome Brits (who are way out of my league) suddenly start paying close attention to me.
Kat Dennings as Kat 'Kitkat' Fernsby
"I don't know what the fuck is going on anymore! Last week I was just some fat girl no one payed attention to and now three incredibly hot guys are following me around! I think Hell has finally frozen over"

Soulmate AU
Soulmates used to be as common as the sunrise.
However, that changed when the world began to expand and the lifespan of individuals increased. It changed when werewolves flourished and then began to disappear. It changed when vampires were created and multiplied. It changed when greed and power began to overtake the hearts of mankind.
Over the centuries soulmates stopped being cherished and soon many stopped looking for them. Some began to see them as weaknesses when in reality they are ones greatest strength.
It's still possible to find ones soulmate, they find each other everyday. Although, the possibility of finding the other half (halves) is so slim most don't get their hopes up. The ones that are lucky enough to find them are believed to be more special than even Kings and Queens.
A soulmate is sought out by touch. The first touch creates a mark within the forearm of their dominant hand. A live tattoo of a tree begins to sprout. A tree that grows roots towards the hand and fingers with every bonding moment and achievement. A tree that blossoms various flowers, a different type for each soulmate. A tree that grows stronger as the bond and relationship builds. A tree that will wither and strengthen depending on the health of the soulmate. A tree that will die when they do.
(If you've seen the movie Beastly. Think of it as that type of tree. A tree that's 'alive'. It'll change, grow and wither with the relationship and the health of the relationship. If you don't understand let me know and I'll try to explain it better... Basically like the gif below)

"Kat! Come on let's go!" I cross my arms stubbornly refusing to leave the car. I stare at my sister through the window as she stands on the sidewalk with her hands on her hips. "I'm not going to let you sit in the car all night, don't make me get Tommy" She threatens.
I roll my eyes at the mention of her over-sized, perfect, jock boyfriend. Personally, I have nothing against the guy but I also knew he would do anything for my sister with a snap of her fingers. If she asked him to come drag me out of the car I'd bet my entire life savings, despite hardly having any money, on the fact that he would come and get me just to please Princess Erica.
Rather reluctantly, I climbed out of the car and shut the door nicely like the good sister I am. I almost smirk at the obvious tone of sarcasm in my mind as the car practically rocks from the force as if it were in the middle of an Earthquake.
"You can pout all you want but you're not getting out of this," Erica says for the millionth time since we've left the house.
"Erica," I whine while basically stomping my way towards her like a four-year-old. "Why am I here? I was much more comfortable at home under my comforter reading on my phone,"
"Kitkat, you need to get out in the real world every once in a while," Erica says walking beside me. I shove my hands in my pockets and kick at the nonexistent rock. "You promised mom you would leave the house more and now she's getting on me to make sure you leave every now and then so here we are!" She chirps happily. "It's Friday night, Kitkat! Do you really want to spend all night reading Spencer Reid fanfictions?" She asks. I instantly look at her and go to answer when she waves me off. "Don't answer that," I roll my eyes and go back to my pouting.
"Erica, just face it" I say finally lifting my head. "You're the social butterfly, I'm the antisocial outcast. I know my role in life, why must you try and drag me to your side?" I ask.
"It's good getting out of your comfort zone, you meet new people and make new friends." Erica says holding open the door to the Mystic Grill. I hesitantly walk in knowing I should just accept my fate and the fact that Spencer would have to wait my return later tonight.
"Only extroverts believe that," I tell her. "And I am obviously no extrovert" Erica rolls her eyes at me.
"Come on, just suck it up for a few hours and then we can go home" She says obviously already tired of my grumpiness. "You get out of the house and get some exercise, mom stops nagging both of us,"
"Fine," I sigh readjusting my shirt. "I'll cooperate until 11 and then you're taking me home," I bargain.
"Deal" Erica holds her hand out. I smirk and shake it dramatically causing her to smile. "Now come on you dork, Tommy's by the pool table" I sigh and follow after my older sister.
The Mystic Grill is fairly busy, as usual on a Friday night. Although, it's usually busier but seeing as there's a huge party going on tomorrow night I guess everyone is getting ready for that. I have no intentions on going to the party tomorrow, big surprise. Erica and Tommy will probably go but my bed is already far too lonely for me to ditch it again tomorrow.
"Tommy!" Erica nearly knocks Tommy over as she leaps onto his back. He laughs loudly and quickly reaches behind him to grab her before spinning around. I smile slightly at the pair of them. I wouldn't admit it but they are cute together.
"Holy Hell, what's up KitKat?" Tommy asks smiling wildly when he spots me. "I didn't think Erica was telling the truth but here you are," He says setting his girlfriend on the ground.
"Here I am," I say with a uncomfortable smile. Soon his regular smile turns more wicked. "Tommy, no" I say sternly as if talking to a dog.
"Bring it in, girlfriend" He grins widely opening his arms.
"Tommy, don't! Stay back!" I say slowly walking around the pool table. Tommy smirks following me. "Erica, get your dog on a leash"
"Just give him what he wants and he'll move on," Erica advises me.
"I don't do hugging!" I complain. "And you know it" I snap pointing my finger at Tommy who just sends me a wink. "Throw him a ball or something," I suggest and then squeal as he dashes around to my side of the pool table. I try to evade him but a chunky girl is no match for a scholarship, two letter athlete. "Tommy put me down!" I scream as he lifts me off the ground, squeezing me with all his mighty and spinning me around.
"It's so good to see you among the land of the living," Tommy says finally setting me on my feet. I humph and straighten my shirt.
"Not on my own free will, I promise you that," I say sending my sister a look.
"We have a deal," She says instantly. I roll my eyes and wave her off.
"Hey, Kitkat," Tommy says regaining my attention. "How about a game of pool?" He asks holding up two sticks while wiggling his eyebrows.
"How about no," I sass with a smirk. "Why don't you play with Erica and I go get some drinks, tootles" I give them a jazzy wave before making my escape. I grin knowing that Erica was stuck playing pool, something she didn't like to do yet she would put up with if to make Tommy happy.
"Kitkat?" The bartender says looking at me curiously.
"Yeah, I'm out in public it's a miracle, Hell's froze over, yada yada yada" I roll my eyes. The bartender grins and laughs a bit.
"What can I get you sunshine?"
"Three cokes please," I says smiling sweetly. He nods and goes off to grab them.
"Something tells me you don't get out much," At first I didn't think whoever was talking was talking too me until I turned my head. I frown my eyebrows not used to random guys talking to me.
"What was your first clue?" I ask with fake interest. The guy with a slight British accent smirks. I let out a slow sigh before looking for the bartender.
"My names Kol Mikaelson," He introduces himself. "And you?" He asks tilting his head.
"None ya," I respond not giving him a second glance.
"None ya?" He asks obviously confused.
"None ya business," I continue. I couldn't help but smile a bit when I heard him chuckling.
"Here you go, three cokes," The bartender says placing the glasses in front of me. I pull out my wallet but the handsome Brit speaks up.
"I've got it," He tells me. I sigh and finally look towards him.
"And what exactly do you want in return?" I ask shifting my weight to one side.
"A name would be nice," He grins. I stare at him for a moment.
"Kat," I tell him.
"Like the animal?" Kol wonders. I nod slowly.
"Wow, he knows his animals, someone give him an award" I pay for the drinks and thank the bartender. "Thank you for this dazzling conversation," I say sarcastically while picking the drinks up rather skillfully.
"Anytime, darling" He smirks watching me walk away. I breathe slowly trying to steady the fast pace my heart set.
"Finally, I thought I was gonna die from thirst," Tommy teases reaching for two of the glasses. He hands one to Erica before practically chugging his drink.
"Who was that cute guy you were talking too?" Erica asks smiling suggestively. I simply shrug while claiming a seat at one of the nearby tables. I innocently sip on my drink and pretend to not be replaying my short conversation with easily one of the most attractive men in Mystic Falls. "He seemed to be pretty interested in you," She presses not willing to let it go.
"I don't know, Erica" I sigh giving her one of my famous annoyed looks. "Just some guy at the bar. I doubt he was looking for some innocent conversation that eventually wouldn't lead anywhere. Guys who approach women in a bar only want one thing and I'm not ready for that," I say sipping on my drink.
"Fair enough," Erica shrugs. "But hey, you talked to someone! Congrats!" I whine and roll my eyes.
"I had a conversation with someone, I didn't cure cancer, chill" I grumble.
"For you, it's an equal achievement." I roll my eyes at her dramatics. Thankfully, Tommy regains Erica's attention allowing me some peace in a not so quiet place.
My hand itches to hold and scroll through my phone but I know if I even move towards it Erica will snatch it before proceeding to lecture me on the importance of socializing face-to-face. So, instead of giving into my need to recheck Instagram I settle on simply watching. I look around the bar and grill. I see some people I recognize and some I don't.
Then my eyes setting on Mr. Sexy British Guy. He's still at the bar but he's no longer alone. I don't even know if he was alone in the first place but now I notice him with someone else. I'm only gazing in their direction for a couple of seconds before he meets my gaze and sends me a wink.
I'm not exactly proud of how I react but after all, I am only human. My heart flutters at the simple action and my cheeks flush all too easily. Nobody had ever paid attention to me before so a random guy at a bar giving me a wink is too much for me to handle. Pathetic, I know.
For the rest of my time in the Mystic Grill I fight to ignore Kol. It doesn't always work, sometimes I find myself gazing in his direction. Every time I look, Kol never fails to catch me. Every time Kol catches me I swear his grin widens and I can just feel his ego and self confidence boosting to a level I could never understand.
"Well, it's 11, ready to go?" Erica asks grabbing her purse.
"Finally," I sigh and hop out of my chair feeling a burst of excitement run through me as I imagine the comfort of my bed. Erica smiles and shakes her head at me. She walks up to Tommy and begins to kiss him goodbye. "I'll go wait by the car," I say loudly knowing they could hear me but both were ignoring me.
I roll my eyes and weave through the crowd. Once I'm out the door I breathe a sigh of relief. The further I got from the Mystic Grill the more comfortable I became. I was never one for large crowds.
"You know it's not safe to walk home all by yourself," I jump at the closeness of the voice and spin around to see Kol.
"Where the hell did you come from?" I gasp. He smirks at me and doesn't answer. "I wasn't planning on walking home, just to my sisters car,"
"May I accompany you?" He asks.
"No you may not," I tell him. "I don't know who you are, I'd prefer it if you'd leave me alone,"
"Aw, love, don't be like that," I spin back around and see the man who was with Kol at the bar. "My brother, here, is just trying to be nice. Trust me, he's not nice often"
"And who are you?" I snap.
It did occur to me that two men, two very tall and handsome men, were basically surrounding me. It also occurred to me that we weren't exactly in a spot easily seen. I knew there was a possibility of being hurt, of being robbed or worse. However, I didn't feel scared in the slightest. I felt as if I were with two men I know and was simply annoyed with.
"Klaus," He introduces. "My brother told me much about you."
"It couldn't been that much, he thinks I'm named after a cat" I say causing Klaus to smirk. I turn back to Kol. "It's spelled with a 'K', darling," I say sarcastically. "K-A-T"
"Please don't tell me it's short for a name like Katherine," Klaus pleaded slightly. I look at him confused but slowly shook my head.
"Not short for anything, just Kat" I reassure him finding myself even more confused by the amount of relief on his face. "What do you two want?" I ask them. "My sister will be here any second,"
"We're not exactly scared of your sister, darling" Kol shrugs and I smirk.
"Steal her clothes, shoes or makeup and you will be," I tell him. He frowns his eyebrows.
"Why would I want any of that?" He wonders making me roll my eyes.
"Don't you two have anywhere better to be?" I asks walking around Klaus but he steps in front of me.
"My brother is quite infatuated with you and I must agree with him, you're quite an exquisite creature." Klaus says stepping way too close but I don't feel the need to move away. "You're beautiful," He whispers. "You smell absolutely divine" He mutters dipping his head closer. He breathes in deeply. "I wonder how you taste,"
"Excuse me?" I asks in a hushed tone. Klaus smirks and I feel myself being slammed into a wall with a hand wrapped around my throat.
I instantly gasp but it's not out of pain. Sure his grip is tight at first and hitting the brick wall will leave my back sore for a bit but I didn't pay attention to any of that. What I pained attention to was the feeling I got the instant his hand touched my neck.
My entire body felt as if it were buzzing. I felt calm and comforted yet hyper and excited. I felt a tingling sensation on my right arm but couldn't bring myself to break eye contact with Klaus to look at it.
"No," Klaus whispers slowly lowering his hand and stepping away from me. For the first time, in a very long time, I'm speechless. I don't know how to react nor what to say. Before my brain can even comprehend what is going on Klaus is nowhere in sight.
"I think you broke my brother," Kol says before grinning. "How'd you do it?" He asks eagerly like he wanted to take notes. I don't answer him and simply look down at my right arm.
"What the hell?" I whisper watching as a tattoo, a moving tattoo, just appears on my arm. It's a tree but it doesn't look fully grown. It looks small and seems to be waving with the wind.
"Interesting," Kol whispers stepping closer to me but I hardly notice. "I wonder..." His voice drowns out as his hand extends towards me. I watch his hand get closer to mine. Gently, he cups the backside of my hand into his palm.
Instantly the same feeling spreads throughout me. My eyes widen in wonder as the tree grows and becomes more healthy, more sturdy. Slowly, I look up at Kol. He's staring at my arm with mixed emotions.
"What's happening?" I asks snapping him out of his gaze.
"Something I didn't believe would ever happen," Kol answers meeting my gaze. "Something I've been waiting for for a thousand years,"
"What?" I whisper with utter confusion. He simply smiles and leans toward me. I close my eyes as his lips press against my forehead.
"I'll explain everything soon, darling," He whispers tenderly. "But not right now," He steps away from me. "Do me a favor and keep this covered," He says dragging his finger over his my mark. I release a shuddered breath as a pleasurable shiver runs down my spine. "Don't tell anyone about it," He tells me.
"What's going on?"
"I promise I'll explain but please, don't tell anyone and keep it covered. Promise me," He pleads. I don't hesitate to promise him causing him to smile. "I assume you know of the ball tomorrow," I wordlessly nod. "Will you come?"
"Not really my scene" I tell him with a small shrug.
"Will you come for me?" He asks tucking some hair behind my ear. I instinctively lean into his touch ignoring the confusion I felt with my actions. Kol seems pleased as he caresses the side of my head. "I'll make it worth it, I promise"
"You're making a lot of promises for someone you just met," I notice. He gives me a small shrug with no explanation. "I don't have anything to wear,"
"I'll deal with that, don't worry, I have excellent taste" He winks at me. I could help but to smile at him. "Come to the ball, just for a little bit," I sigh but wanting to promise him anything. "At least try on the dress and look at how beautiful you are. If you still don't want to come then I guess I'll just have to find you afterwards,"
"I'll think about it," I promise him.
"Good," He says lowering his hand. "I hope to see you there, tomorrow" He says lifting my hand and kissing my knuckles. "Until then Kat," He gives me a wink before disappearing like his brother.
"I need sleep" I whisper rubbing my face.
