Chapter Three: Nesting & Names

Three months had passed since they had told everyone the news, and now, the once-secret pregnancy was impossible to hide. Coraline stood in the middle of the baby's nursery, her hands on her growing belly, as she admired the space they had spent weeks putting together.

The walls were painted a soft sage green, adorned with delicate star decals. A white crib sat in the corner, next to a cozy rocking chair where Coraline could already picture herself holding their baby in the middle of the night. Plush animals and tiny blankets were scattered around the room, slowly bringing it to life.

"Alright, babe, before I put this thing together, I gotta ask—are we sure about this dresser?" Vinnie asked from behind her, holding up a wooden panel with a skeptical look. "Because the instructions might as well be in ancient Greek."

Coraline turned to him, grinning. "It's literally just a dresser, Vinnie."

"A dresser that's out to get me." He sighed, setting the panel down and running a hand through his hair before walking over to her. "But if you love it, I'll suffer through it."

She rolled her eyes, but her heart warmed at his words. "You're the best."

Vinnie gently wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder as they both looked at the nursery. "Can't believe we're really doing this," he murmured.

"I know," Coraline whispered. "It feels like just yesterday we were panicking over the first ultrasound."

Vinnie chuckled. "Hey, in my defense, seeing a tiny human wiggling around in there for the first time is terrifying."

Coraline turned in his arms, gazing up at him. "Are you scared?"

He hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Yeah. I mean... what if I screw up? What if I don't know what to do?"

She reached up, brushing a strand of hair from his face. "You won't. You already love this baby so much. That's what matters."

Vinnie exhaled, resting his forehead against hers. "You always know what to say."

"Well, someone's gotta keep you sane." She smirked before stepping back. "Okay, we have the nursery mostly done. Now all that's left is the name."

Vinnie's eyes lit up. "Ohhh, finally! I've been waiting for this moment."

Coraline laughed as he dramatically flopped onto the rug, pulling out a folded-up list from his pocket.

"Wait—you wrote them down?" she asked, amused.

"Babe, this is serious business," he said, tapping the paper. "Alright, so hear me out. First up: Ezra. Sounds cool, right?"

She tilted her head. "Ezra Hacker..."

"Exactly! It has a whole mysterious, rockstar vibe."

Coraline considered it. "I like it... but let's keep going."

Vinnie grinned. "Alright, next: Luca."

"Oh, that's cute."

"I know, right? And it sounds like a name for a future athlete or something. 'Luca Hacker scores the winning goal!'" He pretended to hold a trophy, making her laugh.

She reached for the list, scanning the names he had written. "Wait... Milo?" She looked at him, surprised. "You like Milo?"

Vinnie rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah... I dunno, it just feels right. Like, I can imagine calling him that. 'C'mon, Milo, let's go to the park.' 'Milo, time for bed.'" He shrugged. "It just fits, you know?"

Coraline smiled softly, resting a hand on her belly. "Milo..."

Vinnie sat up, watching her carefully. "Do you love it?"

She looked at him, then back at her stomach, and nodded. "Yeah. I really do."

Vinnie's face broke into a grin as he gently pressed a hand over hers. "Well, little guy, looks like you've got a name."

Milo Hacker.

It was real. Their son wasn't just an idea or a dream anymore. He was Milo, and soon, he'd be here.

And Vinnie? He had never been more ready.
