Part 3: Drifting Apart Chapter 16
I kneel on the ground, shaking him. "Deidara!"
I grab his head, lifting it up. He opens his eyes and smiles, bursting out laughing. "Heh! Gotcha!" He grabs my hands, pulling me and I fall over him.
"Deidara! You...you jerk! Get away from me!"
He smirks. "How can I? You're the one on top of me."
I blush and slap him on the chest before he forces me to the ground. "Deidara! Ugh you're such a jerk! Go away!"
He lowers his head to my neck, kissing it. "You can't be mad at me forever."
My neck tingles, making my heart flutter. What did he think he was doing? I look away from him. "Um...yes, I can be mad at you maybe not forever but for a long time." I say half truthfully. I didn't want to be mad at anyone but I still was. I look back at him and see his face is a few centimeters away from mine. I was finding it hard not to kiss him.
"Still mad, huh? Well, I'm not letting you go until you're not."
I sigh, thinking back to him pretending he was hurt. "Why the hell did you joke around like that! I thought you were gonna die...I would never have forgiven myself."
He smirks and let me tell you, I hate it when he smirks because he always looks so arrogant. "You were worried about me..." He pauses, a stare down between him and I taking place. "And I tricked you because it was the only way I could talk to you without you yelling or slapping anyone." He traces the outline of my lips. This moment was so intimate despite the fact I knew he was joking just trying to make me unmad at him.
"Um Deidara...when are you gonna get off me?"
"Until you aren't mad anymore."
I could feel his breath on my cheek, the grass beneath me, and the closeness of our bodies that made my heart stammer. I see his lips, pursed in a slight smirk at how helpless I was.
I frown at his arrogance and decide to be bold. I lean towards him a smidge, placing a small, chaste kiss on his lips as a sign that I forgave him although in all honesty I didn't. Not quite yet.
Deidara's reaction was lagging because of his surprise. Or at least I hoped that's what it was. I felt somewhat awkward kissing him until, at last, I felt the momentum of his lips against mine. My heart continually pounds against my ribcage and butterflies flutter around in my stomach. I had no idea what I was doing but I knew I liked it.
"Deidara!" I hear Tukiko call.
I push him off me, the feeling in my stomach and the fiery sensation on my lips didn't die down. "I'm not letting you off that easy." I walk back to my kunais touching my lips, unbelieving. Did I really do that? I smile before training again.
After feeling exhausted, I head to my room, falling asleep instantly after my head hit the pillow.
Next morning, after realizing what I had done, I had to come up with an excuse. I walk into the living room, clutching my head. "Oww...my head hurts. I think I drank too much last night." I know what you are going to say, I didn't drink anything. But they didn't know that.
I see Deidara and blush, the memory flooding into my brain. The way we flirted, the way his lips felt against mine, and the sparks I felt as we kissed.
Tukiko looks at me warily. "Uh...do you feel okay?"
"What happened last night? I don't remember anything but I know you guys don't seem like yourselves."
Deidara frowns disapprovingly. "Y-you...don't remember...anything?"
I shake my head apologetically. "Nope, nothing." I walk into the kitchen, making some coffee. I pour some in a mug, three cream, four sugar and head towards the door. "Well, I'm going to the Akatsuki."
Deidara grabs my hand, I am not sure about him, but I felt sparks. I look at our hands and blush a little as he looks at our hands as well. "Maybe you should stay. You hang there all the time."
"I-I um...can't, I need to talk to Itachi."
Hurt crosses his face. "Okay..."
"But, I will see you guys later, kay." I walk out, heading to the Akatsuki base.
Walking in, I look for Itachi, even in his room. I turn to the others. "Where's Itachi?"
"Him and Kisame went on a mission. They wont be back for a while." Sasori states in a monotone as he continues to work with his puppets.
I groan. "I guess I will wait." I sit on the couch, tapping my foot on the floor impatiently.
Sasori looks up at me. "You okay?"
I nod a little too eagerly. "Just fine."
"Um...you don't seem fine. You're shaking the couch with your inpatient, and quite annoying foot tapping."
I bite my lip. "Sorry..." I stop but eventually get up and pace the living room. "Nioki, calm down. How many cups of coffee have you had?"
"Only one, thank you. And its not the coffee, trust me."
"Can I ask you something?" He asks looking curious.
I nod. "Ask away."
He contemplates how to word it and finally opens his mouth. "Do you...are you and Itachi...a thing now?"
I stop pacing and stare at him, bewildered. "What! N-no! He is like the older brother I never had. Me and him...no...just no."
I sit next to him and wait. And wait...and wait. Still nothing. Eventually Sasori leaves to his room and I sit there by myself, about to explode from too much apprehension. Hidan sits next to me.
I was desperate to talk to someone and it might as well be him. I turn to Hidan. "Can...I talk to you about something that's really bugging me?"
He smiles. "I've been waiting for you to confide in me. Confiding usually leads to other things." He raises his eyebrows, up, down, up, down. "If you know what I mean."
"Um...ookkaayy...anyways, last night I was a mess and-"
"Who'd you fuck with?"
I feel my face contort with shock. "No one! Anyway, I was a mess and-"
"Who'd you go home with?"
"Hidan! No one! Focus! That's beside the point, now if you'd shut up and let me finish! I was a mess and I went back to my room, Deidara was there...there was lots of yelling and...and I slapped him."
He bursts into laughter. "You slapped Barbie! Finally got what he deserved."
"Hidan seriously...and then later, a situation popped up. And under the circumstances, I got caught in the intimate moment and...i..." I pause not wanting to drop the bomb. "Kissed him..."
His jaw drops, gaping at me. "You what! You kissed Barbie before me?"
"You know what Hidan, you're no help. I will wait till Itachi gets back."
He shakes his head frantically. "I was just kidding...sort of."
Just then, coincidentally, Itachi and Kisame walk in. I jump off the couch. "Hey Itachi, can I talk to you...privately?"
He looks at Kisame and Kisame nods. "Okay, inform me of the good stuff." He says raising his eyebrows suggestively.
We walk to his room and I sigh. "Is it just me, or does the whole Akatsuki think we are a thing?"
He chuckles quietly. "Kisame hasn't stopped bugging me. But, what did you need to talk to me about?"
I bite my lip. "I made some really bad choices...mistakes almost."
He nods. "Okay?"
I explain the situations of yesterday and when I finish, he looks at me flabbergasted.
"You what? Nioki, that's bold even for you."
"I know...i know...don't tell anyone. And play along with my excuse, please."
I walk out of his room only to be bombarded by Sasori, Kisame, and Tobi.
"Nioki, you kissed Deidara?!" They all ask rather loudly and I feel my face flush.
