Chapter Twelve - Feeling Helpless
Dereks POV
Currently, I'm in my office with Chris discussing the pack business we missed while we were away.
Suddenly Chris stands up looking around. "What's up, buddy?" I ask, confused by the randomness of his behavior.
He looks over at me in thought. "Somethings wrong, I can feel Gregs fear... he would need to be pretty scared for me to feel it after only marking." He states still in thought.
"Maybe he's feeling anxious?" I suggest.
I smile realising they've marked each other too. Before I get to ask him if he's ok now, Greg bursts through the door with wide eyes and panting heavily.
Chris runs up to him quickly, "What's going on? What's wrong?" He rushes out while holding his shoulders.
Greg tries to speak while catching his breath.
He must have been running fast to be so exhausted...
"Mila... rogues.... five.... help her..." he puffs out.
As I was about to ask where, I felt a throbbing pain sensation in my leg. It wasn't that bad but I knew it wasn't anything on me, it had to be Milas pain. That worried me if she was against five rogues.
"Where is she?" I ordered, angry at her being hurt.
Chris gave me a small glare but then saw me with my hand on my leg and understood what was going on.
"The clearing near the waterfall. You have to hurry, she's a good fighter but she's never taken on that many at once before let aline by her self." Greg pleads.
I nod and quickly start making my way with him and Chris. I mind link some warriors 'go to the clearing near the fall! Rogues. Keep one alive.' I hear a collective 'yes Alpha'
As we're running there I feel a small throbbing pain in my head, worry officially hits me knowing Mila got hit in the head. Further up I see the warriors already approaching the clearing at full speed.
When we at the clearing, they've run after two wolves. Two stayed behind to grab one of the wolves that was slowly regaining consciousness by a tree. He doesn't bother to put up a fight either.
I look for Mila as fast as I can. From what I can see, she did put up a good fight. Two of the are rogues dead and one was out cold.
I spot her laying next to a rock naked, maybe she shifted back when she saw us. I run over to her as fsst as possible, only to notice the blood on the rock... śhìť!
"Come on baby, stay awake. You did great but you have to stay awake for me. Okay?" Fùćķ! I can see she's try to but she's losing the fight fast...
How hard did she hit the ďàmń rock?!
As her eyes start to close as she gives me a weak smile. "No, Mila!" No, no no... she's got to be ok...
I take my shirt off and place it over her. Picking her up bridal style I yell to Chris, "Run ahead and tell the doctor to be ready." He shifts and runs ahead at lightning speed.
Greg's running with me to doctors, not leaving his best friends side. We get to the doctors and I immediately barge in. The doctor is already ready for me.
"Put her on the bed Alpha."
She starts to examine her wounds.
"Is she going to be ok? She hit her head on a rock I think. There was a lot of blood."
She pauses for a second, "Alpha, I need you to wait out there while I check her injuries. It'll make this faster and easier."
"But... I..." I sigh, defeated because I know I'll ramble... I need to take less time from Mila.
Waiting out here with me is Greg and Chris. I slouch in the seat next to the door and put my head in my hands. "Is she ok Alpha?" Greg asks after a minute, barely above a whisper.
I hope so. "Wont know until the doctors done."
Five minutes later she comes out. "Alright. So she has suffered a decent bite to her leg, as well a smaller depth bite on the back of her neck. The main injury is the injury to her head. I've stitched it up to help it heal but she's still out cold. Now, the only thing we can do is wait for her to wake up."
While she's talking, I can feel my anger rising at what they did to my mate. This one in the cells best cooperate or he's going to be my boxing bag.
"How long til she wakes up, doc?" I ask.
"Well that all depends on her and her injuries. When wolves are injured we heal quickly but head injuries take a bit longer. But she isn't in a coma so to speak. Shes just unconscious, like when you faint. She will be awake within the week, depending on her healing rate."
A WEEK!?
The doctor tells me I can stay in the hospital room if I want, as the couch is a futon. I can't even imagine sleeping right now.
I thank her for her help and Greg and Chris bid there goodbyes. I can see Greg's feeling guilty for leaving but I image my mate didn't leave him much choice...
Once it's just us, I pull my chair right next to her bed and hold her hand. She's now in a hospital gown with a bandage around her head.
Goddess, this is hard to see her like this! She looks so helpless...
Why didn't I sense any fear or even anxiety? Surely she felt some being so out numbered...
I'm so proud that she held them off as long as she did. It's all she's done since we met, is make me proud. But I can't help but feel like I failed her. I should have gotten there sooner.
If I had been there she might not be in here...
I feel something wet land on my hand... Putting my hand to my face, I realise I had silent tears going down my face. I haven't cried since I was a kid but seeing my mate looking like this, I can't stop this helpless feeling...
Please wake up soon!
