April
The weekend had arrived once again, springing upon the newly formed family a change of pace for their ever so loving household. A new season had officially blossomed before their eyes, and for the parental figures of the household, the small, happy-go-lucky girl known as Playtime was too. Playtime declared April to be her favorite month. It was when flowers sprouted into their full potential, it was when there was pretty rain, and when she could spend the lot of her time surrounded by nature's upbringings.
Baldi was a key figure in her learning about the great outdoors. He was the one who took her on her first camping trip, helped her discover how to identify different types of leaves, and even spark a fire with only a few twigs!
Of course, he never told the Principal that. It was their secret to keep.
And so on this lovely spring day, Playtime and Baldi were out in the yard, messing around with things in the ground. Her father had gotten her a few seedlings to place about the yard with the help of her favorite bald friend and teacher.
"Now Playtime, do you know what these are called?" Baldi asked her, holding up a small, potted, pink and white flower. The petite girl put a finger to her chin... She hadn't seen this flower before.
"Gladiolus?"
"Nope! That's not right. It's called a gillyflower. Do you think you can guess what it represents?"
Playtime's hand made its way up to her head, scratching it softly as she tried to guess what such a pretty flower could represent. It was delicate and white... But had small tinges of pink on the outside of its petals. The small girl looked up to Baldi, giving a pout, "Beauty?"
While the string bean man of a teacher could understand where she got the interpretation from... It was not the response he was looking for. He ruffled her hair, and shook his head diligently, "I think you'll like what it means. It means love, Playtime!"
Dough eyes that were once confused and frazzled gazed upon the flower once again. She was very young. Playtime didn't know much about love... Except that that's what she felt around her dad. Her dad as well as the newer parental figure that had come into her life... And Mr. Baldi! And her school friends of course!
"So I guess in a way you were right! Beauty and love are... along the same lines, if you think about it hard enough!"
Playtime smiled at his validation of her response, and bounced up to him, quietly pleading for the flower. He gave it to her, warning her not to tamper with it's petals.
With a skip in her step, she bounced inside of the house. Her excitement had almost overwhelmed her, and so she took this opportunity to present the flower to her father, while he was in his small office, on his laptop.
Hearing the door open, her dad perked up from almost dozing off, and with a warm smile, he welcomed his daughter into his arms. She flung herself into him, wrapping her arms around him, but ensuring that she didn't crush the flower.
"Playtime what have you-"
"I brought this for you daddy! It's pretty like you. Baldi said this flower represents 'love' so I thought..."
His heart swelled at his daughter's intentions to express that she loved him. She had paused to put the flower in his hair, below his reading glasses that were currently resting on his head. Once she was done, she stepped back, sticking out her tongue softly to observe him.
"Do I look like a queen?"
Playtime giggled.
"More like a really girly King."
"I'll take it."
He lifted the brunette girl into his lap, enclosing her in his arms. And then a lightbulb lit above his head, and he had an idea. "Playtime," he called out to grab her attention from the work on his desktop, "do you know any more meanings of flowers?" The girl tapped her chin... Then she nodded after a while. "Mr. Baldi does too!"
"Alright. We're heading out."
After a few hours of being out at the store, only to find out that the did not have the items you were looking for, almost having to curse out the woman who worked at one of the shops, getting stuck in traffic, having to give directions to a woman who was lost on the road... You were about ready to get home to your family. Your feet hurt, you hadn't had a hug from Playtime all morning, hadn't gotten a kiss from your lover all day, hadn't even gotten one of those badly timed phone calls from Baldi.
It felt lonely, in a sense. But you had nobody to blame.
So when you pulled into the driveway of your shared home with the Principal, it went without saying that you were relieved. Home sweet home.
Upon walking inside you slipped off your shoes and hung up your coat on one of its hangers with an exasperated sigh. The house was quiet. Not that this was unusual since the the family who lived in it normally kept the noise level to a minimum. But something was different somehow.
"Playtime? Princy?" Your gentle voice rang out, a hint of desperation clear enough to be noticable to anyone. You wanted to curl up in your lover's arms, to fall asleep with Playtime in your lap. Today was stressful and a reliever would do some justice right now...
Lucky for you, that's what you got. The doorknob clicked a few times, gently rattling, and the door behind you soon flew open. A whoosh of fresh air relieved you suddenly, especially when you saw your lover at the door. And with Playtime on his back too, grinning from ear to ear.
There was a silence. One that was still, yet, not unnerving in the slightest. His eyes said 'I'm home' and the breath that he heaved told you how eager he was to return to you. It made you flush, and maybe even giggle a little. Seeing him like this was a rare sight, so there was no doubt that you took every second possible to soak up how distraught and nervous he looked.
He was still getting used to being this deep in love with someone.
The flowers he held in his shaky hands spoke volumes about his whereabouts. Playtime wore a flower crown, and was urging her father gently to give them to you.
"They're for you."
"For me? What did I do to deserve such pretty flowers..."
Don't get him started. As a matter of fact, where was he to begin?
There was your smile. Your smile that never failed to be contagious around him, the one that reminded him of what he longed to be because of you, reminded him of his ambitions and his reasons for being here. Your smile was irreplaceable. He lived for it.
There was your heart, one of pure gold. Your intent on doing good for yourself and others. How you were able to see the good in him, and even his closest friend, despite what they had faced previously. Your kind, accepting heart that—
"You love us! That's what you did!" Playtime spits out.
Both of you look up to the small, giddy child.
"Mr. Baldi taught me... taught me that g-gillyflowers are a symbol of love! So I helped daddy pick them out because we both l... love you!"
And in that moment your heart could not have soared any higher. A sweet smile graced your lips as Playtime finished up her ramble. You would have to thank Baldi later for teaching her something like this.
"I love you too Playtime. You and your dad."
This made the Principal visibly smile. Though it wasn't a big toothy one— it was still a smile. They always made you feel warm inside.
You took the flowers from him, your hands brushing softly along a few of the petals. And then you took a few steps forward, leaning into his arms. He wrapped his own around you, securing you against his chest, making sure that the flowers didn't get tampered with in the process. Playtime gently pat you on the head from her father's back, and you found yourself smiling into the Principal's arms.
Love is found wherever home is. Home lies wherever someone is still thinking about you.
You always found a home with these two. And through them, you always found love.
