Chapter 27
━━━━━━━━━
Chase smiled as he led Bree down the walk. She laughed as she trailed after her new boyfriend, wondering what was so special about this very spot. It seemed strange that he would take her to the pier. They had never been here together before, and yet, Chase felt as though it was worth the two seeing together, as a couple. Chase stopped abruptly as the two reached the bridge. Chase looked off to see the sunset had just started. He smiled as he let the thought replay in his head.
He had wanted to take her here. The night that he had realized he loved her. That he had fallen for her in less than three days.
"The sunset is beautiful." Bree gushed as Chase lead her to sit on the edge of he bridge. The water of the creek rushed below them, reflecting the sunset in the water. Chase knew she would love the view.
"That's why I wanted to take you here." Chase whispered after a small silence. Bree frowned.
"What?" Bree asked.
"I came here after Adam had caught us in my office. You had ran off to be alone and I was upset, so I came here to think. I realized that I loved you." Chase explained with a smile. Bree blushed at his mention of her.
"But we had only known each other then for-"
"For three days? Yes, that's what I was having trouble with. I didn't want to think that I had fallen in love with you that quickly, but I had. And it's the best thing that's ever happened to me." Chase replied. Bree laughed quietly as she took hold of Chase's hand.
"It's the best thing that's happened to me, too. Without you, I don't know where I'd be today." Bree said. Chase smiled and threw his arm around her.
"Can we promise something?" Chase asked. Bree sat back and nodded, knowing whatever Chase had to request, it would probably be worth it.
"Of course." Bree replied.
"Can we promise, that even if we fight, we'll make up as quickly as it started. That I can do cliche things like getting you flowers and chocolate on valentines day. Can you promise to never get to mad at me if I forget an anniversary. And I will promise, to take you on a first date, and make sure it's never out last." Chase asked. Bree smiled happily and nodded. She couldn't believe he had come up with something so meaningful. Something that she had wanted her whole life as well.
"We can. We can promise all of that right now. But I have one more thing to add to your list." Bree said with a sly smile. Chase laughed.
"And what is that?" Chase questioned.
"Can we promise to always be in love?" Bree whispered. Chase felt his heart stop at her words. That was exactly what he had hoped she would say. He hasn't added that to his list, simply because he was afraid of her reaction to it. He was afraid she would assume they were moving to quickly. But now, he knew for sure, that she wanted them to last, just as much as he had.
"I never thought you would ask." Chase added with a smile. Bree laughed and leaned her head back against his shoulder, loving the feeling of sitting here with him. She loved him, with all her heart. And he loved her, just as much, if not more back. She still felt as though she didn't deserve him in a way. But she knew Chase must feel the same about her. That is what would keep their relationship going. They would constantly be trying to please each other, always wondering if they would be good enough. But Bree felt as though they were already so close, so comfortable with each other, that none of that would be a problem. They were in love, and that's all that mattered.
Chase smiled happily as he let the small box in his pocket slid back and forth between his fingers. He had bought it so long ago, knowing if he had it with him every moment forward, he would find the right time to do so. He glanced down to see Bree smiling. He felt himself copy her actions. Seeing her happy, made him happy. And he knew that there was never going to be a time he felt otherwise. He felt bad that he hadn't done this sooner. But in the end, they were here now. They finally had one another, to call their own. Chase couldn't think of a better time to ask one more thing of her.
"Bree? Could we stand up?" Chase asked suddenly. Bree frowned in confusion, but nodded and did as her boyfriend had asked. Chase slowly stood, helping Bree up shortly after. She smiled as he held her hands in his. They stared deep into each others eyes for the longest time, never keeping track of how long. Chase sighed and dropped one of Bree's hands, letting his own slip into his pocket. Playing with the box and the idea of what she would say if he was to ask. He couldn't lose her again, that was for sure. And this, this next moment, would ensure that he would never lose her again.
"Bree. I need to add one last thing to the list." Chase started.
"What is it?" Bree asked, wondering what he could have come up with. She had thought they had told each other every detail of what their relationship would soon entail. What it already had since that first moment they had met. Chase smiled and slowly moved down to one knee on the pier. Holding her hand tightly, he brought out the box. Bree's eyes widened as she watched closely. Chase let her hand go momentarily as he opened the box, to reveal to most beautiful piece of jewelry she had ever seen. Chase smiled brightly as Bree felt her own smile growing.
"Chase." Bree beamed. She had never seen this moment coming.
"Bree, can you promise..." Chase started. Bree laughed and brought her hands up to cover he mouth. She could feel the happy tears rising to her eyes.
"Yes?" Bree prodded. She wanted other him say the words so badly.
"Can you promise that you'll marry me?"
