Chapter 13

━━━━━━━━━

No. This couldn't be true. She didn't feel anything... Right? She couldn't feel anything towards Marcus. He was the evil boss, while Chase was the good one. So, he was the bad boy, with a soft side. Bree let her head fall back against the seat of her car. She had always had a thing for bad boys. Even mediocre bad boys.

How could she let this happen? For the past three months, she's only been able to think of Chase. She's been here, with Marcus, the whole time, and felt nothing. So, the real question is, what changed? Bree shook her head.

She had a job... Two jobs. She had to get the files to Marcus so she could be done there. Then, she would be able to be Chase's assistant for the rest of her working life, and someday, be the next Mrs. Davenport. That's how things should be, right? That is what she wanted. She's been fighting to be with Chase this whole time. She couldn't let Marcus cloud that view. She loved Chase. She was in love with Chase. Bree smiled as she thought of them, together. It just seemed right. Bree nodded to herself before starting the car and heading home. Chase had given her the day off anyway. Marcus on the other hand, had given her the key to the top floor. She had the code and keys to get inside. The only question was... When to go. She could go any time she wanted, tonight or tomorrow. But, there was the chance that Donald and Chase would pull an all nighter. And, there was the security cameras. She had to be careful of that. When Chase took her, she got lucky. She was able to get in and out within seconds. This though, this may take a while. She decided that she would go the second that they left. She couldn't do this when they were on the top floor. She had to do this alone. Marcus had proof that the only computer in the world with those plans, was the super computer in the back room on the top floor.

Bree picked up her bag and made her way to the second floor apartment she had been living in since freshmen year of college. She placed her things on the table and changed before sitting down on the couch. She picked up her phone to see one missed text.

Hey :) I just wanted to see if you got home okay.

Bree smiled as she continued to look down at the text. Chase was always thinking of her, she couldn't ask for better. She didn't know what to say back.

Yeah :) I've been home for a while :P thanks for checking.

Bree sighed and threw her phone lightly to the other side of the couch. She couldn't do this. She couldn't lead Chase on when she was pretty sure she liked Marcus as well. Bree wanted so badly to hate Marcus. She wanted to only be thinking of Chase. But with Marcus, things seemed a bit easier. She wouldn't have to pretend she was working for him only to quit after she got what she needed. But... Bree knew deep down, she loved Chase. There was no denying that. She shook her head and decided to sleep before heading out later. She pushed a pillow up under her head, and waited for sleep to hit.

"Ugh." Bree groaned as she lifted her phone to see the time was, none other than, midnight. Chase and his father had been working for 12 hours straight. She rolled her eyes and decided to head up and investigate more. She left her car parked in the alley and used the card key Marcus had made her to get in the alleyway door.

Bree smiled as she remembered the first day Chase had spoken to her for real. That was the day they actually got to know each other.

Bree quietly made her way over to the elevator at he back and hid in the bathroom. She sighed as she met the darkness. She leaned against the wall and slid down to the floor. She closed her eyes listened impatiently. She wanted so badly to just sneak up there now, get this over with. But no, Chase and his father just had to stay until all hours of the night. Bree took her phone out and texted Chase.

Hey :) do u want to meet?

Bree sat back for five more minutes. When she checked to see if Chase had gotten it, he hadn't. She shook her head and walked out into the hallway. She glanced around before deciding to use the elevator for the first 8 floors, and then taking the stairs so she wouldn't have to explain herself if they were, indeed, awake. Bree scrolled until she saw the 4 digit number Chase had punched in so many times laid out on a paper Marcus had for her. She hit the numbers and instantly, the doors slid open. Bree rode the elevator until the 8th floor. When she got out, she looked over to see a light was still on. Bree could feel her eyes grow wide as she looked to see across the room, Adam was still working as well. He looked as if he was at battle with himself as to how long he could stay awake. Bree ran around the corner to the stairs where she slid the key car a second time and quietly opened and closed the door behind her. She took a breath and leaned against the door as she prepared herself for what was next, the top floor. If Chase and Donald were still awake, she was in trouble. She would have gone through all of this, for nothing. Then, she would have to try again tomorrow night. Bree shook the thought away as she climbed the stairs. She reached the door holding her from the unknown, she punched in the number again. The door popped open while Bree cringed at the sound. She had hoped this wouldn't have to happen. Bree squeezed the ought the small opening she had left for herself to avoid the light shining in through the well lit stairwell. She let the door open a crack so she would be able to escape at any given minute. Bree slipped a pen to stop the door from shutting all the way.

The door opened to the kitchen. Bree tip toed until she looked over to see the very father and son CEO's sleeping on either couch. She smiled to herself as she looked at Chase's face. He looked so peaceful, whereas when he was awake, he always looked professional. Bree then began to walk down the hall to the back room where the specified computer would be with the files. Marcus had told her to look for a file called not a bionic chip... Well that wasn't obvious. She laughed quietly at the names the boys had picked for all of their projects. She continued to look through the files until she finally came across the one. She breathed a sigh of relief as she moved the file over to the flash drive. This time, Bree had remembered to wear gloves so she wouldn't leave a finger print and by now, her old one should be gone. Bree returned to the screen she had found the computer on and slipped the flash drive into her pocket. She was walking down the hallway when she heard shuffling in the living room.

"Dad? Dad wake up. We fell asleep." Chase mumbled as he shook Donald's shoulder. Bree ran into the bathroom as she heard Donald begin to mumble inaudible words back at Chase. Bree rested against the back of the door as she waited for them to leave the main area. Then, she could slip out without being noticed.

"Oh, right. We better get the plans done. Come on. We'll only be here five more minutes, then we can go home." Donald said as he ushered Chase to the back room. Chase nodded as Bree watched from the crack in between the door and the door hinge. Chase stopped abruptly outside the bathroom.

"Give me a minute." Chase called as he began to make his way into the bathroom. Bree silently shrieked as she looked around for a place to hide. Chase waited in the doorway for his father's answer as Bree continued to search.

"Okay. But just a minute. We're so close to leaving I can almost taste it." Donald said happily. Chase laughed.

"This place is like a house. What would be the problem with staying here?" Chase asked. His father laughed back. Bree then spotted a shower in the back corner which luckily, had a curtain. Bree raced over and moved the curtain ever so slightly, trying not to make a sound.

"Chase, I work up here almost all day, and now, almost all night. What wouldn't be the problem with staying here?" Donald replied in a duh tone. Chase shook his head as he mentally decided against fighting with bus father over something so tedious.

"Yeah, you're right. What could I have been thinking?" Chase stated simply as he walked into the bathroom and closed the door. Bree leaned up against the shower wall as she waited for Chase to be done and out of there. She looked over the edge of the curtain to see Chase leaning against the vanity and staring at himself in the mirror. His eyes lit up as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He smiled as he unlocked it and read her text. Her text! Bree quickly took her phone out and turned off all sources of noise her phone could make. She looked back to see Chase texting her.

Hey :P I didn't even know you'd be up. But could we maybe meet for breakfast tomorrow? Dad and I are just barely getting out of here :|

Bree smiled as she saw Chase staring impatiently down at the phone.

Of course ;) see you there 💙

Bree hit send and watched as Chase smiled happily down at the phone. He nodded approvingly.

Cool. Luv you 💜 see you tomorrow

Bree sighed as she got it. Chase smiled to himself. He washed his hands off and exited the bathroom. He turned on his heel and walked down to the back room where Bree could hear the two conversing shortly after. Bree closed her eyes as she locked her phone and began to make her way out of the shower. How could she do that? She was right there, stealing their million- scratch that- billion dollar ideas, only to hand them over to the enemy. To top it all off, she was dating him. Dating him! She was dating, and in love with Chase! But she couldn't let him know. He couldn't know... About any if this. Because if he ever found out, he would leave her. And that thought scared her even more than having to give Marcus the flash drive in her hand.
