The Hunt

While the pack hunters gathered together, Osckar came to crouch next to me inspecting the scratches that had welled up with blood underneath my fur coat. His face was grim but the expression eased off as he saw that it looked worse than it actually was.

"Why do I have a feeling that this is going to be a normal occurrence?" he murmured to me.

I let out a huff and attempted to shrug my shoulders.

"I just know that you're going to bring a lot of excitement to the pack, all you have to do now is lead a successful hunt and the pack will welcome you. You did well in holding your own with two of my best."

I licked his face in gratitude, he laughed, and it warmed my stomach, it was the first time I'd heard it and I'd make sure it wasn't the last. Osckar looked over my shoulder and stood up, I turned to see what he was looking at and noticed six wolves had joined me now, my hunting party. I exhaled through my nose trotting up to them, Osckar trailing behind.

"Owen, my gamma will be the judge of the hunt, he will join you and report back to me." Osckar said down to me, his eyes burning with glee.

Out of the corner of my eye, a large russet wolf came to stand beside me, Owen I guessed. I inhaled his scent, my nostrils filling with pine and fresh grass, it would be good to know for future reference. Osckar jerked his chin at me and I knew it was all down to me now. I half-turned to look at the six wolves behind me and barked my command to follow as I moved deeper into the woods, my nose guiding me to any potential prey.

The hunters were near-silent as they walked with me. I had to double check several times to see if they were still following me. I was truly amazed, they were living up to their pack name, no wonder why they were feared, you couldn't hear them coming even if you tried.

My steps sounded loud to my ears and I cringed hoping that they didn't pay attention to it. Using my nose I scented an elk not too far from here, the main challenge was trying to convey what I needed them to do without the mindlink.

I looked to Owen and gestured with my snout that he should move in front of the elk, it looked like he understood and moved with another wolf disappearing into the trees. I moved, stalking the creature with another three wolves, I sent the small grey and brown one to position itself at the back, to corner it the elk off.

I lowered myself into the stalking stance as the elk came into view, the rest followed my lead. I stayed low as I got closer, on the other side I could see Owen laying low, he'd blended in a little too well that even I struggled to see him in his position.

The lone elk was grazing on the grass, too preoccupied with its meal. I just hoped that this was the last time I'd be lunging at anything for a while. I broke out into a run, the others hot on my tail. Startled, the elk ran off in Owens direction and I just hoped he could take it down.

No such luck, the elk veered left. I threw my body at the elk, it tumbled into the grass and one of the hunters that I didn't have a name for finished it off.

I was tired and in desperate need of sleep, tonight was just not what I expected but I was glad it was over, I was through the initiation and in the pack. Owen let out a howl of victory, the others around me followed, and then a chorus of howls sounded through the night as the rest of the pack joined in. It was my welcome song.

~~~~~
Sun kissed my eyelids, waking me from my sleepy state, I stretched my body, pushing my arms as far back as I could. A faint ache in my muscles thrummed as a reminder of what happened last night. I had earned my place in a new pack, and as someone, they could respect and rely on. A sense of pride and accomplishment shot through me.
I turned on my side and stopped when I saw storming grey eyes staring back at me. I blushed as our night antics came to the forefront of my memory.
My eyes flickered down to those soft plump lips of Osckar's, remembering the way it felt as he kissed me for the first time. High on the thrill of the chase I'd been eager to reciprocate. We'd run together back to the pack house, hand in hand with ridiculous grins on our faces. When I was about to head for my room, he tugged me to him, letting me feel the smooth muscle of his chest. He'd leaned down, his breath fanning my face before he cupped my face in his hands. Our lips met touching softly, but then we'd worked up to a frenzy, he led me backwards until I felt the back of my knees hit the bed. I tumbled backwards and he flowed, pressing his weight into me as his mouth moved to my neck.
"My beautiful mate." He whispered into my ear, "You're going to be mine."
I felt him lick the juncture between my shoulder and my neck, he nipped lightly then kissed me.
"Mark me." I said to him.
He took a moment but then I felt the pressure of his teeth against my skin, we both inhaled at the same time before he bit into me. His sharp teeth punctured though my skin and I felt a tinge of pain, it quickly faded and was replaced with ecstasy.
A soft knock at the door had my hands flying to the covers, pulling them over me after they slipped during my stretch. Osckar laughed at my frantic behaviour then yelled for the person to come in.
The door opened slowly, half way open Bay stuck her head in.
"You better get ready, Alpha William is going to be here soon." She said, her eyes flicking between me and Osckar.
"Shit," Osckar swore, he flew out of the bed like a bat out of hell and opened a door in the left corner. A bathroom. A quick demand of "Get dressed," slipped out of his lips before he closed the door behind him.
I looked at Bay in confusion, "Who's Alpha William?"
"The guy Osckar rescued you from." She didn't say much more than that before she pulled the door closed behind her.
I decided that it was best I got ready too, I was ready to face the asshole who thought I was nothing more than a pest. I was quick, making sure I chose a sundress to make me look less threatening and more of a sweet teenager he'd victimised.
I went back to Osckar's room only to find him gone, remembering I could use mindlink now I was quick to find our connection. Where are you?
The study, he was quick to respond which was such a relief, he wasn't against me being there for this.
I made my way there quickly with the aid of another pack member I'd bumped into the hallway. I stopped in front of an old mahogany door that did not blend in with the rest of the modernised house. My guesses were that this door was from the original structure.
"You don't need to knock." his voice filtered through the door.
I opened the door and was surprised at how messy the room was, stacks of papers were on his desk and filing cabinets were overflowing. Open books lay sprawled on the floor and chairs surrounding the desk in the middle of the room. Osckar was standing near the window behind the desk, a paper in his hand as he read.
"And you need to clean this place up."
He looked up taking stock of what his study looked like, then shrugged.
"It happens when I get busy, I can't help it. I'll have Roman clean it up." He said, smirking at the thought of his brother sorting out his mess.
"What's up with Alpha William being here?"
He nodded as if I answered a question, "He's here because we have a rogue problem around the borders, it seems as if a bunch of them have gathered in the no man's land and are starting to cause trouble."
"I'm surprised you're even meeting him." I said, voicing my thoughts, "I'm even more surprised that after attacking his pack and taking me he wants to talk with you."
Osckar sighed, "When you're an alpha you have to learn which grudges you have to let go. Alpha William wasn't the one to personally harm you so he gets to live but trust me, the ones that inflicted any pain to you are dead."
I raised my eyebrows in shock but said nothing.
"Okay, so is he staying long?"
"Just for today, he'll be gone by tomorrow morning once things are sorted. As Luna you need to accompany me when we greet him."
"I'm also going to be present during whatever meetings you have and personally help clear out the rogues." I inserted, making myself useful while I could.
He shook his head "You can be in the meetings but I won't put you in danger with the rogues."
"If you're worried I can't handle myself - "
"No you proved yourself already, now that there are two alphas in the pack, one should always stay on pack grounds to protect it."
I narrowed my eyes at him, I wasn't going to be one of those Luna's who couldn't do anything, who just sat up on her throne looking down at the others.
"Fine, " I conceded, letting him think I'd had no real interest in being involved.
"Great, I don't have to brief you on alpha duties, do I?" he asked, a seriousness had seeped into his voice.
"Of course not, my dad may not have taken his position but it doesn't mean I don't know what I'm doing."
"I never thought so."
Alpha William is here, I heard Roman say through the mind link, I was thankful that he informed me as well.
Osckar stood and we both went down to the great Alpha William.
