Chapter One
Veronica's pov
A loud thud could be heard behind me. "Here Veronica your gonna need them." I turn to see Gavin himself with a huge smirk on his face. "What are these?" I ask as I sit the notebook in my hands down.
"Eh, some reports on missing androids and some pretty damaged properties." He leaned on my desk and grabbed my notebook. I raise my eyebrow and grab my notebook from him. Letting out a sigh I stood. "Alright let I'm going to my car to think and read over this stuff. Please stay off and away from my desk." I grab my bad and put the files in them. "Yeah yeah, whatever. Also, Hank needs to talk to you later. Whoever he gets here. " "What for?" I ask as I push my desk chair in. "I don't know. He just said he needed to." With a roll of my eyes, I turn and start to head out the door.
"So cold bruh!" I quickly speed walk to my car. Trying to get in and turn some heat on. "Even after living here most of my life, I keep forgetting Detroit gets freezing," I whisper as I slam my car door shut. I sigh as I felt some warmth from my seat.
I press the button in front of me and my car shakes and turns on. As soon as I did the heat-blasted in my face. "AH!" I over my eyes and rub them. "I forgot about that.." I teach and turn the heat down.
I reach down and pull the lever that's under my seat. My chair turned with a jerk. "Ugh. I got to get that fixed." I open my bag and pulled out the tab file. It was quite light, only had a few papers in it.
File Paper One
Name: OB 219
Description: Blond mid-length straight hair. Tan skin with dark spots around hands and arms.
Last seen: 127 Maple End Street
OB 219 goes by the name Olivia. As named by Eric's daughter and son. We were told by the father that their mother had passed after giving birth to their son. Mr. Brook. (Eric) was too busy at work to watch the kids. With them being too young to go to school and even if they did go to school they need a caretaker. So Mr. Brook has decided to save up money and get a female android to act as a caretaker even a mother to these kids. So he could work and not worry.
Mr.Brook had come home on 11/10/2036 to find both his kids had been stabbed about 6 times in their chest. Mr.Brook in a panic called 911 and then looked for Olivia. Only to find her gone.
We have made her the number one suspect but there is always a possibility that someone had come in and took the Android and has killed the kids to not let himself be caught or maybe by mistake. There is not much we can get out of the crime scene. There was a struggle show but no broke locks or doors leading out.
End File One
"Well, that's fun..." I put the paper to the side and pull out a medium-side envelope. I open it to see that it's some photos from the crime scene. "Hmmm, poor kids.." I look through the photos and to be honest there wasn't as much blood as one might think. My brow raised as I flip through the pictures. *KNOCK KNOCK!* "OH SHI-" I turn around with a jerk of my neck and a spin of my seat. "Hey, I needed to talk to you." "You could have not given me a heart attack old man!" I yell out at the lieutenant. He chuckled and tapped my window with the back of his hand one more time before pointing to the other side of my car. "Yeah come on dang." I unlock the doors to the car. He walked around and opened it. "You trying to freeze me?" He said before sitting down and shutting the door. "At this point yes." He reached down and pulled the lever under the seat and his chair turned around as I did at the beginning. I do the same as him. "So what's the rush with talking huh?" "Well, I found out your working with me first off." "UGH!" "Shut up and let me talk. Not only that I have been informed that me and you! Are getting a plastic "partner"." He says with a roll of his eyes. "Plastic partner?" I ask in pure confusion about what this man was talking about. "Really? An android! Plastic don't you know." He says. "OH! You could have just said that Hank. I would have gotten that before plastic. I don't call them that." "Yeah yeah. I know you do not want to be mean and hurt their feelings. They don't get them, Veronica. Grow up and see that." I frown my brows and sigh out.
"They can be more human than me and you combined Hank. Why can't you see that?" I ask. "Heh, yeah right. Keep thinking that your gonna get yourself hurt or killed. And that will be your own damn fault." He turns his seat back around. "I'll see you later or tomorrow. I'm not sure. I'm heading to the bar." Without a goodbye, he got out of my car and slammed the door.
I frown and look down at the files in front of me. "I wish he could look past the past..."
"Hey, Veronica heard you're getting yourself a plastic toy." I stop in my tracks and turn to Gavin. "Please a toy? If whoever I'm getting wanted to. They could throw me like a toy. But no it's not a toy! They're gonna be my partner." "You really gonna call that thing a partner? It's a robot! Good for nothing." I roll my eyes and start to walk over to my desk. "Whatever you say, Gavin," I say back to him with a wave of my hand.
As I get to my desk I see someone sitting in my chair looking through everything on it. I stop and watch them. "Who the hell," I whisper out. I walk up to my desk and sit my bag down beside it and turn to them. They turn and look at me. My eyes widen.
They stood from my chair and stood in front of me. I was taller than them only by a little. "Hello, detective Veronica. My name is Meredith I was sent by cyberlife to help with the disappearance and murders of humans and androids." I blink a few times in shock there here so fast. "Uh, hi... it's good to meet you, Meredith. You already know my name um."
I look back at her. She had these bright green eyes. Beautiful blond hair that was a little past her shoulders. Her entire was gray, black and some blue even white. She didn't wear a dress or skirt. She wore dress pants instead. "Should we get started with the cases?" I jump and look away for a second. "Oh yeah! Sorry uh. The desk there is open you can sit there if you like and look over some things." I point to the desk behind mine. "Thank you." She moves past me in such a strong stiff movement. It honestly makes me uncomfortable. But she's brain new as well. She's really the first of her to be called code. I sit down and pull up some of the files I have in my bag. "Did they tell you or give you anything about any of the cases?" I ask and turn my neck to look at her. She was staring at the back of my head. "Uh.." "Forgive me. I was analyzing and logging your heart rate and such of that nature." "Why?" "It's in my code to when I meet someone new that I will be working with. I take their log so I know their normal or around their normal heart rate. To help when or if when we get into danger and they are in too much of a panic to do anything or make any choices." I turn back around in my seat. "That's nice..." "They didn't give me anything about the cases. They said you would be doing that." I groaned. "Of course they did." "Is that a problem detective?" "No, no, no! Just thought they would."
11:23 PM
"Eh, I think that's enough work for today." I stretch my back letting it crack. I turn to Meredith who has been quiet the most time. Working and reading. "So we're are they letting you stay?" "Stay? I stay here." My smile fades, "Oh.. seems a bit uncomfortable." "I do not sleep, detective. I don't need a bed or home." "Right I know I know. I have more files at my house if you want to come to see them. They didn't put them into the computers yet or there are just so many new ones you can't find them." "Only if you're ok with it detective." "Yeah I'm cool it would be nice to have someone there nowadays, to be honest." I picked my back with all the files and notes I need. "Come on my cars out front."
The drive was silent. She kept to herself. But I guess that's what she's been coded to do. Or she just didn't want to talk. Not sure.
Even more silent when we got into my house and I was able to get cleaned and sit with her. "So anything you wanna ask me?" "Not that I can come up with." "Ok uh, anything you wanna know about me?" I ask with a smile. She looked at me and blinked. "Why are you trying to get me to talk?" "Eh-?" I was stunned. "Well if we're gonna be partners I think we should know some things about each other! I mean I think that's how it should work. Plus I don't wanna be rude." "You can't hurt my "feelings" detective. I don't have them. I am an android." I sigh. "Yeah... I'm gonna head to bed. My office is at the back of the apartment. It's got a desk you will know it. Come get me if you need anything alright Meredith?"
"Of course detective."
2:40 AM
"Detective?" "Ahhh... go away." "Detective wake up." I groan and slowly open my eyes. "Detective?" "AH!" I jerk up and back. "Jesus Meredith! You trying to give me a stroke?" "A stroke? No why would I do that to you?" I stay silent for a second, then I let out a snort. "*snort* Haha, I'm sorry." "I'm the one who should be sorry detective." "No, it's fine. What's wrong?" "Wrong?" "Why did you wake me?" "Oh, yes I was looking through some of your files and I found some cases that look almost identical to the new ones." I stretched my arms and got out of bed. "Alright let's go take a look."
Meredith's pov
This human is beyond anything I have heard about her. She's what they call weird. She's nice to me, and acts as if I'm human. I guess having a nice human partner is better than someone who's not willing to work and get the mission done. "How long have you been up looking through everything?" She asked me as we walked down the steps to her home. "Ever senes we got to your home," I answer following behind her. "You didn't rest or anything?" "Detective I am an android I don't need rest," I answer in a stern voice. "Right, right." She waved her left hand back at me. She jumped from the second to the last step to the bottom.
"Alright-" she stopped and stood with her eyes wide. "What happened to my living room!?" She yelled out and turned to me. I step down from the steps and turn my head to where she was looking. There were papers and files everywhere. While it was neat in a way there were still so many it looked like a huge mess. "I was looking through the files." "All of them?!" She turned her head to look at me. "Yes." I turn mine to look at hers. She closed her mouth and then Sighed. Closing her eyes and look back at the papers. "Alright, what did you find?" I look away from her and walk over to the couch and sat down. She followed me and sat beside me. "This file here. The name is Jackson Crude, he's a 26-year-old man who reported his android going missing. Model code 12947, MX219. He last saw it cooking dinner for his son. No one was hurt or anything in or outside the house was damaged." "Ok..what does this have to do with our cases?" "The missing android." "Yeah, many go missing each day. People steal or the android can get lost or..runoff." "Android can't get lost. Even if they do they would go back to where they are living or stationed." "Alright..so?" I turn to her and look at her. "The code of the android is the same and the android itself is 219." "The code can't be the same. And yeah it's weird that there both 219. But that's not enough evidence to do anything." She says to me. I reach over and grab a paper and shower her. "The code is the same as this one." Grabbing the new paper and showing her. She grabbed both and sat there looking at them.
"Well they are the same... but how the codes mean different people." "Different androids detective. I am not sure why they are the same." "Yeah, androids whatever. But the codes they should not be the same..." she stops and looks at her hands. "It could be many things detective." "Could one be were there different people- androids? Different models, you get what I'm saying." She asked as she looks at me. "Well, it would be a possibility. There many 100 models but there all different." "Ok, that's one idea that can be set on the table!" "Forgive me detective for waking you. Head back to bed." "Huh
but?-" "You need rest. Not only do you need 8 hours of sleep to function correctly but it keeps you healthy. Please go back to bed." She sighed and stood. "Alright if you need anything you know where I am." "Of course detective." "Veronica." "Excuse me?" I turn my head to her. She stood on the seconded step heading up. She was looking at me. She smiled at me. "You can call me Veronica." She waved goodbye and went back to her room. I turn my head to look for words with my hands in my lap.
"Veronica?"
