Interupted Lunch

Kaito stared through his binoculars with a smirk on his lips, observing the leftover exhibition. Security has increased tenfold upon his last heist and he knew, while he was going to become increasingly difficult to steal another gem, the Stone of Barenziah would be his next target. It was easy to make out the perfect entryway.

Gotta inform Jii-chan of the new plan...

Kaito slowly pulled away from the view and sat up from the small roof he had been perched upon. Now how to get down unseen?
Kaito turned, deep in thought and nearly screamed as indigos met forest green.

"WHAT- w-what are you doing here?! Why aren't you at home?!" Kaito exclaimed, only to shush himself immediately. God forbid anybody would hear him.
Clutching his jacket, Kaito stared at the sheepish boy in front of him who shot back with a shy smile. Did he follow him all the way until here? One of his trained white doves was calmly perched on his shoulder, and suddenly Kaito wasn't even surprised anymore on how he had been discovered.

How long has he been standing behind me?!

Shock washing out of his body, Kaito finally began to relax and looked around before his eyes fell back onto his company who kept watching him with an awaiting expression. Was he adamant about following him? Well, at least he had some clothes on this time. He looked actually pretty normal; despite the obvious hard and round object on his chest being somewhat visible through his hoodie.
Kaito breathed out a sigh and arched his back before taking the boy's hand and quietly leading him away.

"Maybe it'd be good to show you around a bit... You saw nothing of me spying, got that?"
Kaito didn't expect an answer. In all honesty, he was a bit amused. This guy was getting attached to him, at least he made that impression.
On the other hand, for him it was probably only Kaito he could follow anywhere at all. Nobody but him knew about his true origins and his fate within a statue.

His pet at least seemed to like him as well. Kaito pondered wether to teach him to take care of them as well while he was studying for the upcoming exam.
The way down wasn't exactly spectacular, yet Kaito found himself enjoying the look of fascination in the boy's eyes as he watched trains, busses and cars go by, enjoyed different kinds of smells and excitedly stopped at every single advertisement.

"Are you hungry? It's already lunch time."
Kaito patted his belly, questioning eyes lasting on the boy for an answer who watched his gesture with confusion. Finally, it clicked and he gave an excited nod.

Maybe we could eat out today? I have nothing against some takeaway.

Kaito didn't have to think much longer about this. He was starving and his stomach had been loudly protesting for at least the last hour. And his favorite Ramen restaurant was in near, too!

Ah... Wait. I can't take him there. He'll be completely overwhelmed with the chopsticks.

Finally, Kaito proceeded to just drag his company to smaller junk food place and sat down with him, smiling to himself and ordering for the both of them, always watched by curious green eyes which seemed to drink in every single word, gesture and movement Kaito made.

Body freezing up, Kaito paused. The door had opened and a very much familiar face had entered the restaurant. Immediately, Kaito ducked into the booth and frowned softly to himself; at the same time causing his company to become antsy as well.
"What is this guy doing here..."
Kaito clenched his teeth, then took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment to relax. Pokerface.

The all too familiar detective and his friend group took a seat quite far away and Kaito relaxed a bit more. Out of sight, out of mind.
"Damned... Of all places, Kudo Shinichi shows up here."
He shook his head. He just had to stay calm, he-

Food. The waiter set both their plates down, and Kaito found his trail of thoughts ending just like that. In a bit more friendly way, he once again showed his friend how to use the chopsticks, before wolfing his meal down. The faster they finished the faster they were gone again.

"AHHH!!"

Kaito froze up again, indigos scanning his surroundings as a woman dropped from her booth to the ground, eyes wide, seemingly dead. At the same time, Kudo jumped up, then immediately rushed over towards the victim. Kaito wanted to die on the spot, how could that happen to him again? He had just his final bite in front of him!
Sensing Kaito's distress, the boy frowned and stared at Shinichi as well, realizing he was the cause of Kaito's behavior.

"No one leaves this restaurant! You there, call the police."

Kaito exhaled sharply and shook his head. Oh no. But he had nothing on him that could expose him, right? No, nothing. Nothing but... him.
Kaito stared at his friend again. The guy who looked very much foreign, seemed to be mute and didn't speak the language in the slightest way possible.
Would Shinichi find this suspicious? Heck, not even Kaito himself could communicate in a different way than hand gestures!

While he appeared calm outside by now, Kaito feared for the worst. His friend had no ID, no passport, no license. He had nothing, he didn't even exist. And of course, Kaito hadn't had the chance to ask Jii for fake documents to give him some kind of identity.
Indigos flicked back towards the detective who quietly secured the area and began to inspect the corpse on his own. Not long after, and Kaito could hear the police sirens.

They had to get out of there, as fast as possible.
