Sonnet 56: Fair Youth
(Guilt 5)

Upon a fearful summons shall my fall
Be witnessed by a thousand glaring eyes,
My former friends now instigators all
Who cast me out, insuring my demise.
Upon their lips of indignation breathes
The vapors of their judgement o'er my life,
Their unforgiving swords drawn from their sheathes
To take the head of this despisèd thief.
And yet there's one among them standing there
Where even my dear parents dare not stand;
Whereas all other eyes accuse and glare,
This man alone has eyes that understand.
      God bless such mercies given to us sinners;
      We stand as equals under guilt, as twiners.
