🌙Ch. 11: Elders of Luminaria🌙
Lyrius' breath caught in his throat, the weight of her words sinking in. His fingers traced the edges of the portrait, trying to grasp the reality of the revelation. "My mother..." he whispered, his voice trembling with a mix of awe and sorrow.
Elyriana placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, her eyes filled with empathy. "She was a remarkable woman, Lyrius. Brave, kind, and powerful. Just like you."
He turned to look at Elyriana, searching her face for answers. "Why didn't they tell me? Why did I have to find out like this?"
"Sometimes, the truth is hidden to protect us," Elyriana replied gently. "But now that you know, you have the strength and the legacy of your mother within you. Embrace it, and you'll find your path."
Lyrius nodded, feeling a new sense of determination and connection to his past. The image of his mother, so full of grace and strength, would guide him in the challenges ahead.
Lyrius heavy-heartedly walked away from the portrait of his mother, his emotions a turbulent mix of sorrow and pride. Elyriana's reassuring presence grounded him as they made their way to the grand hall where the elders awaited.
The hall was majestic, with high ceilings adorned with intricate murals depicting the history of Luminaria. The light from the luminescent trees outside filtered in through stained glass windows, casting colorful patterns on the marble floor.
The Six Elders sat on their high chairs, with an air of wisdom and authority. Elder Calanthia and Elder Eryndor's eyes widened as they took in the sight of Lyrius.
"Could it be?" Elder Eryndor murmured, his voice filled with astonishment.
Elder Calanthia stood up, her gaze locked onto Lyrius's face. "He has her eyes." she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "Lila's eyes."
Elyriana and Lyrius walked closer, bowing respectfully, before she gently nudged Lyrius forward. "Elders, this is Lyrius. He is the son of Princess Lila Moonwhisper."
A wave of whispers swept through the room as the elders and the few other Luminarians present absorbed the revelation. Elder Eryndor and Elder Calanthia exchanged a look of profound realization.
Lyrius looked at everyone confusedly, "What's going on, Elyriana?"
"Elder Eryndor and Calanthia are your grandparents, Lyrius." She explained, as the elders stood up and came closer to them.
Lyrius's heart skipped a beat, the weight of her words settling over him. "Grandparents?" he repeated, hardly daring to believe it.
Elder Calanthia nodded, tears glistening in her eyes. "Yes, Lyrius. We are your grandparents. Your mother, Lila, was our daughter."
The room fell into a respectful silence as the gravity of the moment sank in.
Elyriana stepped forward. "I believe it's time we called Kaiden and Agatha. They need to be here for this."
With a swift motion of her hand, Elyriana summoned a shimmering portal. Moments later, Kaiden and Agatha stepped through, their expressions a mix of concern and curiosity.
"What's going on?" Kaiden asked, his eyes scanning the room before landing on Lyrius.
Agatha, her gaze softening as she saw the elders, approached them. "Elder Eryndor, Elder Calanthia, it's been a long time."
Elder Eryndor nodded, his expression somber. "Indeed, Agatha. We have much to discuss."
They all took seats around a grand table, the weight of unspoken memories hanging in the air. Elder Calanthia began, her voice steady but tinged with deep sorrow. "Lila was always adventurous. As she grew, she felt drawn to the human town of Willowdale. We allowed her to go, and she spent nearly a decade there. We kept watch over her from a distance, but one day, she vanished without a trace. We searched tirelessly for years, but it was as if she had disappeared from existence. It wasn't until we found her body in Nexus Terra that we learned her fate."
Calanthia's voice wavered with pain, the loss of her daughter still raw. Kaiden continued, his voice heavy with emotion. "We discovered Lila near the border of Luminaria and Remorvia. She was gravely injured, barely clinging to life, but her priority was Lyrius. She begged us to protect him. Despite our efforts, her wounds were too severe, and she died in our care, entrusting Lyrius to us with her final breaths."
Agatha spoke softly, her eyes glistening. "We raised Lyrius as our own, concealing his true heritage to shield him from those who might seek to harm him. It was the only way we knew to keep him safe."
Lyrius listened, his heart aching with each word, the weight of his mother's sacrifice settling over him.
"She gave her life to protect me," he whispered, tears streaming down his face.
Elder Calanthia reached across the table, taking Lyrius's hand in hers. "Your mother was a brave and selfless woman. She loved you more than anything, and her legacy lives on in you."
Elder Eryndor nodded. "You are part of our family, Lyrius. And now that you are here, we will protect you and help you understand your true potential."
The room was filled with a profound sense of connection and purpose.
Lyrius felt the weight of his heritage and the love of his newfound family envelop him.
