i've shared this
dream before, but
i wanted to turn
it into more of a
descriptive scenario

06.26.18

Mark peeked outside the grocery store window at the darkened sky. His eyes squinted and he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. "We have to make this trip quick if we want to get home before the storm."

I agreed with his notation and picked out our grocery cart. The seven boys followed me as I wheeled the cart around the store. They picked out necessary items and piled them in. All that we could afford, that is.

None of us knew our past. We've grown up together, living off of what we could and getting the best jobs possible without a high school diploma. Our parents were gone, leaving us together as the only family we had left.

"Are you alright?" Mark asked me, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder. He was the oldest in our group and watched us all with care. The brother I never had.

I slowly nodded, pulling myself out of my trance. Haechan was the only one not doing his duty. He only trailed behind the cart with his arms crossed, as if he wanted to be anywhere but here.

We soon completed our shopping and checked out at the register. We paid with the money we had and zipped out of the store. However, there was no escaping the downpour of rain on our walk home.

Fortunately, the house we had found wasn't terribly far from the store. It was abandoned, but still in great shape with furniture. We burst through the front door, our hair and clothes dripping water onto the wooden floors. Chenle ran through the house to grab us all towels to dry off.

"I'll start putting groceries away," Renjun told us as draped the towel over his neck. Before taking most of the bags, he popped off his dirty shoes and made sure the water was no longer dripping onto the floor.

"Have fun with that," Haechan sighed as he went to sit on the couch. His eyes closed while his arms rested behind his head.

"Haechan," Jeno started, "isn't it your turn to help put away groceries?"

Haechan grumbled from the seat, letting his hands fall against his legs with a smack.

The rest changed into clean clothes and brought dry ones for Haechan and Renjun as well. When everyone changed, Jaemin started the laundry.

"What's for dinner?" Jisung against, rubbing his stomach to indicate his hunger.

"We bought some chicken at the store we can eat," I told Jisung while standing on my tip-toes to ruffle his almost dry hair.

Thunder clashed outside as we sat around the table to eat our food. The younger ones kept messing with each other's, causing Mark to constantly tell them to stop making a mess. After dinner, the sky was pitch black except for the spontaneous lightening. Jisung and Chenle started to doze off while sitting on the couch.

"You two should go to bed," Mark told them. "If you sleep on the couch, we'll hear Chenle complain about his neck hurting again tomorrow."

Chenle yawned and nodded. The two of them walked up the stairs to their room. Jeno and Jaemin eventually made their way to their rooms as well once their sleepy eyes started to get the best of them.

I wasn't tired at all and I loved hearing the sound of rain and thunder outside. To pass time, I decided to mop around the front door where our muddy footprints were. Mark filled a bucket of water while I grabbed the mop.

"Thanks." I smiled at Mark and took the bucket from him, then walked over to the door.

I came to a holt as I spotted something small wiggling around on the floor. A pink slimy worm was moving in a chilling way. The bucket handle slipped my my hands and spilled water all over the floor while I squealed from my fear of worms.

Renjun rushed over to where I was standing. He picked up the bucket, which thankfully was completely full of water. He laid down one of the towels over the water to help soak it up.

"What's wrong?" he asked me.

I covered my mouth and pointed at the worm with my other hand.

Renjun took a second to spot the small creature. When he did, he chuckled. "I can't believe you're scared of worms."

He pretended like he was going to pick it up, which made me tense and back away. Renjun pulled his hand back and stood up straighter.

"I'm just kidding, I'm not going to do that to you." Renjun stretched his arms and started walking to the stairs. "I'm going to head to bed. I'll see you guys in the morning."

"What was all the noise from?" Jeno asked at the top of the stairs.

"There's a worm on the floor," Renjun told him. "It must have been tracked in since we were outside in the rain and mud."

"Some people have the weirdest fears," Haechan scoffed, holding my pet chinchilla. He slowly crept towards Mark, who was afraid of it.

"What are you doing?" Mark asked, sinking farther back into his seat.

Haechan laughed, holding the chinchilla closer to him. "Come on, Mark. Just pet it."

Mark shook his head and gulped.

"Stop it," I ordered Haechan. "Can't you see that bothers him?"

Haechan turned to glare at me, anger showing in his eyes. Out of rage, he threw the chinchilla to the ground and stomped over to the worm. He picked it up, a devilish sneer appearing on his face. My heart before to pound in my chest as he started walking in my direction.

"Put it down," I told him, my voice wavering. "I'm serious."

Haechan didn't. He continued to come closer and closer. I ran to the kitchen, but Haechan bolted after me. The kitchen island was separating us as he dangled the slimy pink creature between his fingers. The way it moved sent shivers down my spine.

"I know you want it," he teased through clenched teeth.

"No, you fucking psychopath!" I yelled at him, running in one direction.

Mark jumped up from the couch in the living room with panic in his eyes. I turned the corner to go to the front door, but slipped on the spilled water. My knee banged against the corner of the wall and pain shot up my leg.

Haechan's footsteps came into the living room, rushing me into flight mode. I jumped up from the floor and threw open the door to go into the driveway. It was still pouring down rain and I was immediately soaked when outside. A black truck sat in the middle of it that I jumped into. Haechan slammed open the front door just as I shut the truck's. I pushed a knob to lock the door I came in, but Haechan was reaching for the one behind me. My hand zipped to the back door to lock it as well. I jumped to the driver's seat to lock those doors and block Haechan from entering.

He aggressively tried pulling the truck doors open, but they wouldn't budge. The truck shook from his force.

Haechan jumped in front of the driver's side window and banged on the glass. He yelled at me from the other side, but I couldn't make out anything he was saying. I began to sob and sink down into the seat. My hands were intensely shaking as I clamped my hand over my mouth.

Two figures appeared in the front door and came running into the driveway. Their figures were distorted from the rain running down the truck windows until they were close to Haechan. It was Mark and Jeno.

Haechan stopped banging on the glass and turned in their direction. His hands slowly slide down the window, trailing water along with them, as his new targets were locked in front of him.

   Then everything went dark.
