16- Server meeting 🌙
Grian realized he could never tell if it was the next day or not. He hadn't moved. He had just gotten more comfortable in this tree. He never realized how comforting it was to lay in a green leaf bed. The night sky dotted with stars barley showing through the trees vegetation while it's stable branches holds you on its wood. He should do this more often, he felt a lot better. His eyes still stung from the rocks he sobbed out. But, the voices accompanied him. They made him feel less lonley.
He heard footsteps. Footsteps in the forest. Grian tried to sit up but hit his forehead on the sticks above him. He created rustling in the oak leaves.
"Grian?" A familiar British accent called out. "Is that you? Are you in the tree?"
"Y-yeah?" Grian responded and tried to find a way to get down. He could explain everything to Mumbo, he would understand.
"Grian, what happened?" Mumbo ran over to Grian once he hit the ground. Grian grabbed his friend and hugged him.
"Too much. Way to much for me to handle." Grian laughed. It wasn't funny but Grian didn't have any other response. Grian let go.
"You can tell me later. Can you tell the whole server?" Mumbo asked in a panic.
"The whole server?" Grian knew that was a little to much stress for the moment but he guessed he could. "Uh, sure.. Why?"
"We agreed to have a server meeting, more like a trial. We don't want to seem like traitors but you killed Xisuma.. Permanently.. We have to know why." There was no reason for Mumbo to give a reason why. Grian knew. He didn't want to be reminded, but there was no avoiding it.
He nodded his head and Mumbo smiled lightly.
"Okay, let's go."
"Why did you do it?" Grian heard Doc yell over the multiple questions and comments that were being thrown around. They had all agreed to meet at the area where the season started.
"I'll explain!" Grian yelled back.
Grian looked around, awkwardly almost everyone was looking at him. He started to get a lot more nervous then he already was.
The voices silenced when someone rung a bell. That's when Grian noticed the voices were also mumbling. The ones in his head, making small whispers about the hermits and this meeting.
"Alright everyone, let's be quiet and let Grian explain. Grian, why?" Cleo tried to sound as calm as possible but it was clear she was upset.
"Uh- Well.. He didn't believe me so I doubt you would," Grians hands started to shake.
"Go on." Grian heard a voice taunt.
The hermits all judgingly looked at him.
"It wasn't technically me!" Grian excused. A few words were mumbled among the crowd as they got confused.
"I just want to go home.." Grian whispered to himself.
"What do you mean?" Iskall asked.
"I said you won't believe me so there's no point!"
"We're going to need a reason, Grian," Mumbo added.
Grian looked around again. Normally he would be fine being the center of attention but this was consequential. If he told the truth there's no thinking what they would do.
"Just tell us what Xisuma didn't believe," Cleo said.
"Ok but don't think I'm crazy." Grian clenched his fists.
"I've been hearing..voices and they are really demanding. I stopped sleeping because they told me to and then I had a vision and then I started melting when the sun was out so I went to Xisuma to tell him and they told me to tell him to make it always night but he didn't so they manipulated my emotions and thoughts and actions so I killed him now we're here." Grian rushed.
The voices burst into an outrage at the mention of them.
The hermits started at him.
"Basically-" Grian awkwardly smiled.
"If you were hearing voices why didn't you tell us?" Pearl broke the silence.
"How do we know he's telling the truth?" Tango said with his hand over his mouth.
"Voices have never happened before. The server gets crazy but it's nothing paranormal.." Cub added.
This definitely feels like a trial alright. Grian thought, tracing back to Mumbo when he asked him to join the server meeting.
As the hermits argued, he stood there with his fists clenched, occasionally biting his lip. The hermits going back and forth was drowned out and Grian wandered in his own mind.
"I think everyone is forgetting something," Tangos eyed narrowed, "Xisuma is an admin. The only admin! What are we going to do if he's dead? The server will crumble without anyone keeping it together!"
Grian snapped back to reality. Should he mention the admin transfer? No, maybe later. They were busy yelling at each other.
"Ok everyone!" Ren yelled. "Why don't we do a vote? Stop arguing for a bit to agree on what to do."
The hermits turned their attention to him.
"Raise your hand if you think Grian is misunderstood and has good reason."
A few hermits raised their hand. Grian realized Impulse raised his hand a little higher then others.
"Raise your hand if Grian should be punished."
The majority out up their hands, including Ren. When Grian and Ren made eye contact, Ren turned his head breaking eye contact.
"G-guys this is unreasonable!" Grian smiled, "I have a good reason! You heard it! I killed him, but it wasn't my fault! I-I was manipulated!" He rushed his words together.
"You killed their best friend. He brought them here. You bring yourself out," Grian heard Voice whisper in his ear, quickly turning his head to find it. It wasn't there. Grian thought about what it said. Was here going to die?
Grian started to tear up.
"I'm sorry! He was my friend too! I didnt mean to! I didn't want to! He means as much to me as to all of you!" Grian yelled, his sad emotions turned to anger. He couldnt control it. Everyone was silent.
"None of you believe me! Fantastic! Do whatever you what with me then! If I'm so dangerous and if I'm so intimidating you can't even speak a word in my presence I might as well live up to your expectations!" Grian blurted out every word without his own command.
"What's with the sudden change in personality? Are you feeling alright?" Mumbo asked softly.
"Change in personality? No! I've always been like this! Pent up emotion and rage except it's only coming out now! Because you're all not listening to me! You're punishing me! If Xisuma were here, he would back me up! He knows everything and has been here longer then all of you, he knows what happens, he would understand what I'm going through and what's happening! He knows what can happen on this server and if you're not going to act like him or bring up what X might think to the table then there's no point in deciding what will happen to me without his opinion! You all have been friends with him longer then me! You know how he acts, so you do something about it and think about him for one second if this meeting is about him!" Grian yelled into Mumbos face, clenching his fists harder that they might draw his own blood.
"Grian-" Mumbo started but Grians voices cut him off.
"He's going to say something dumb and irrelevant. You know we know it."
Grian unconsciously punched his friend, knocking Mumbo to the ground.
"Just shut up! I know you'll say something dumb that will only tick me off more! Don't even go like, 'This isn't you!' It is me! This isn't some dumb show or book where you can change my emotions with a single word!" Grian stared down at him. Then he realized what he had just done and he knew how he looked right then and there. Confused and scared of himself, he looked around, remembering this was all in public. In front of everyone. Grian knew there was no way he could defend himself. Everything was silent.
"They are scared of you. Look what you did."
Grian held his breath realizing they were right. He didnt know what to do, only thing he focused on was not breaking down.
A few whispers were shared.
"I think we need to discuss the punishment." Cleo said to the other hermits.
Grian looked down and stepped back. He covered his eyes so he didn't have to see anyone. Especially not Mumbo. He didn't know if he could ever look at him again after what happened.
Grian heard a few sentences.
"He's a hazard.. This isn't how he acts and if he's changing and can't control himself he might cause a lot of accidents."
"I think he's gone insane."
"I don't think we're safe."
Safe. Grian only wanted to feel that word. He only wanted to go back in time. How many times did he want that to happen? He lost count.
"Grian," Cleo called. Grian uncovered his face and looked at the half zombie. "You're a big threat right now.. murdeing Xisuma and punching Mumbo.."
"He's your best friend. If you have no fear hitting him you have no fear hurting anyone else," Tango added.
"So.." Cleo continued. "We're going to send you away, let you have some time alone until your feeling better."
"Feeling better.." Grian laughed."Feeling better?!" Grian yelled this time, making sure the others could hear him. "I'm feeling great! I'm perfectly fine! I'm no hazard you're only picturing me as one! I didn't mean to do any of that!" Grian only meant the last sentence. His mouth talked without thought.
Everyone only looked with concern and fear. Grian had a reputation for starting wars and pulling pranks, hin being mad could start anything.
"We're exiling you." Cleo told the clear meaning of her words. "You're to dangerous to be here for now. When you're over your anger, you might be able to come back but there's no telling how long you'll be there. But that's really up to you." Nobody would look at him.
"Traitors!" The voices screeched.
"Traitors!"
"Traitors!"
"Traitors!"
"You can't do this!" Grian yelled. "You're not even in charge!"
Cleo looked down then looked at Doc. Nodding her head to signal him to get Grian. He walked up to Grian and grabbed him lightly, guiding him to a boat. Grian didn't know what to do. Should he fight? Should he beg to not put him in exile? Should he just burst out in tears? While he was deciding Doc sat him in the boat and started rowing away from the spawn.
Grian looked at the group of hermits as he was being taken away from his friends. He didn't know what emotions he was feeling. All he knew was that that the voices were very upset and they decided Grians emotions for him. The hermits slowly faded out of sight.
A few hours later, Doc placed Grian on a average sized island with oak trees. Grian had to give Doc all of his items and clipped his wings so he couldn't fly away. Doc told him every other month he would check on him, to clip his wings again and see if he was ready to come back to hermitcraft.
Grian didn't say anything.
He watched as Doc sailed off.
Once he was out of sight, Grian fell on his back looking up at the forever black sky. Connecting the constellations. Lost in his head. He wanted to fall asleep. It was peacefull drowning in a void he couldnt see. He saw the huge moon and remembered why it all started. Grian didn't feel anything. He expected to feel something, but something nothing ever came.
Just him, and the moon.
