Chapter 11

Lia heard someone enter the room who happened to be Kazuki. She took in the view of him with him now wearing purple hakama and a white kimono with some purple threading along the sleeves. She also noticed he was no longer wearing his boots and instead, wearing tabi socks and zori sandals.

"Kazuki," Lia said to herself.

"How are you feeling today?"

Lia smiled. "Much better. I can finally walk on my own now."

Kazuki walked over and took a seat next to her bed. "That's good to hear. Are you ready to leave this place finally?"

Lia's eyes lit up when she heard those words. "Yes. I am."

Kazuki gave Lia a small smile then got up and started to head out. "Let's go."

Lia followed Kazuki out the door, happy that she finally gets to leave the hospital. The moment she stepped out the hospital door, she was met with a warmer air and felt the sun soak into her skin. It felt nice to see the sun in December. She looked around to see the city signs written in a language she couldn't understand but could recognize the writing system.

"Kazuki," she said. "Where are we?"

She knew she was not on earth anymore but, she wanted to find out some information about his home planet.

"As you know with your cancer being gone, we are no longer in the human world."

"The human world," Lia interrupted. "You mean Earth?"

Kazuki nodded and continued with his explanation. "Yes. The moment your heart stopped beating, I took you back with me to my home planet. It is called Rakuen. Rakuen is made up of twenty districts. District one being the closest to royalty and District twenty struggling each day to stay alive."

"Just like the difference between America and Africa," Lia replied with disappointment in her voice.

"We are in a city located in District one. It is the largest city in this world also known to be the most beautiful of them all. It's called Izayoi, the sixteenth night or the night after the full moon. The name itself is beautiful."

Lia was looking around the city and taking in the sights. It was a really big city for her but she noticed a lot of Japanese influence in it.

"Kazuki," she began. "About the language. In my hospital room, I found some books. The writing looked like it was Japanese and another one looked very different. It had writing I've never seen before."

"Ah," Kazuki acknowledged. "I see did a little snooping."

"I'm sorry," Lia replied and looked down.

Kazuki chuckled. "It's understandable to be curious about things here. We adopted Japanese as the language to communicate with a long time ago and the other one you found would now be a dead language. Not even I know how to speak it. Japanese is more useful so there's no point in learning a dead language."

"That makes sense but why Japanese?"

"It's something that was established a thousand years ago. The stories say that some Aliens from a noble clan traveled to your planet and found themselves in the Heian period of Japan. Back then we didn't have any culture of our own so, that group fell in love with the language and the culture and stayed there until it was mastered. Humans had no idea that Aliens were living among them back then and they still don't. By the time they returned, it was a challenge for everyone to accept the fact that they had to talk differently than they were used to."

"How did they manage to switch everything over?"

"Everyone had to learn the language the old fashioned way. It was difficult for everyone to learn how to speak Japanese so a lot of Aliens were sent over to Japan who knew how to use the human disguise. Eventually Japanese took over and the next generations were slowly forgetting the way things used to be."

"That's crazy."

"Speaking of the history of switching over our languages. I will no longer be communicating with you in Italian. You'll learn Japanese and have it mastered by tonight."

Lia's eyes widened in disbelief.

"There's no way someone like me can learn a language like Japanese all in one day. That's insane."

Kazuki smiled and led Lia towards the Izayoi train station.

"It sounds crazy but there is an easier way nowadays to learn languages," Kazuki explained. "I'm going to take you to a city in District two called Ujimasa. You'll need the District two master and he'll put the language in your head in no time."

The two went over and waited for the train to arrive. Lia now didn't know what to say to him and once the train arrived it took her by surprise by how fast it came in.

"This train is called a Shinkansen," Kazuki announced. "It can be intimidating for people who never seen one before."

Lia just giggled and they both entered the train. Lia was amazed at the inside of the train. The seats were made like a leather seat chair and it had so much room. She felt like she was riding on a first class flight rather than a train. The minute it got moving, she was amazed by how fast it could go and not lose control. The technology here amazed her.

After about a half hour, they reached the end of the island. They left the train station and then got on a boat ride to district two. The first thing Lia noticed about the city of Ujimasa was the wall around the island. She thought it was weird for a city to have a wall around it but, the two of them were let in the city right away. Eventually, the two reached the lab where Lia would get this new language forced into her mind.

The first thing she noticed about the District two master was his blue hair and blue eyes. He had nice eyes but he didn't look like the type to be working in a science lab to her. He seemed way too laid back to fit into the nerdy scientist type.

The two men were seemed to be talking about how this was going to work but Lia couldn't understand either of them which made her very nervous about what was going to be happening to her. She got hooked up to the machine and then she heard the District two master talking to her about something, then held up his fingers and started counting down. She fell asleep as soon as his fingers counted down to zero.

Lia woke up to the two men checking in on her.

"Welcome back Lia," the district two master said. "Can you understand me?"

Lia was excited to be able to understand every word he just said in Japanese. She always fantasized about being able to speak Japanese since she was really into anime.

"Yes. I can." Lia covered her mouth in excitement when she heard herself speak Japanese for the first time. "I can't believe I'm really speaking Japanese! It's so exciting!"

"It is," he giggled. "I'm Kaito Matsumura."

"Lia Amato. It's nice to meet you."

"Nice meeting you too. I'm the Master of District two and that guy over there who has been helping you out is the Master of District one."

"Oh," Lia smiled. "Okay."

"Anyway Kaito," Kazuki stepped in. "We should get going. We'll see you around."

"See you around," he waved. "Have a safe trip back."

Lia and Kazuki headed back to see that night has fallen. They got back to District one to catch the train back. Lia was amazed that she could read all the kanji characters that should have taken at least two years to master. The train came at around 11:50 pm which was right on time as soon as the clock struck that time. It amazed her how it wasn't a few minutes early or late. Right on time.

The two boarded the train and Kazuki soon fell asleep against the window. Lia looked over at him and thought he looked quite adorable when he was sleeping. It was the first time he showed himself like that to her.

The train finally stopped in Izayoi and Kazuki instinctively woke up at their stop. They walked down to the dock that had a traditional Japanese boat. Kazuki got it ready and helped Lia in.

"I live just outside the city," Kazuki said. "I prefer to use this boat. It's called a chokkibune. It's only about fifteen more minute before we're home."

Lia's heart jumped a little bit. He just said home, meaning he was planning to take her home with him. Kazuki jumped into the boat and held out his hand to help Lia into it.

Lia looked up into the stars and admired the beauty of the night. Eventually, the boat got to a dock that looked like an abandoned island. It didn't look like anyone could be living here. Kazuki helped her out of the boat where she ended up losing her balance and tripping. Kazuki caught her in a hurry.

"Are you alright," he asked.

"Yeah. I'm just a little tired."

"Then I'm just going to have to help you out a bit."

Kazuki picked her up bridal style, making Lia blush.

"Kazuki," Lia trembled.

"I'm fine really. What if I'm too heavy?"

"You're not heavy at all. You're actually quite light."

Lia didn't want to argue with him cause she actually liked being in his arms. He had a muscular build compared to Monte's skinny build. Lia felt more protected and the sounds of the crickets put her to sleep before she could even see where Kazuki lived. Kazuki looked down at her sleeping and smiled. Once he got to the house, he placed her in bed then exited the room right away to let her sleep.
