Chapter ten
They brought everything and everyone that had survived to Itilien. The halflings would be well, Aragorn and Irenia had made sure of it.
All the Rohirrim, the Soldiers of Gondor, the swan-knights, the guardians of the citadel, the Dúnedain, the Elves, the eagles and the wizards were glad.
They had suffered so much and were finally to get their reward.
After some days, the halflings awoke.
First Pippin, then Frodo, who had tossed the one ring into the fires of Mount doom and lastly his true Gardner, Samwise Gamdschie.
They were such a merry gathering and Irenia enjoyed their company above that of everybody else. Except Boromir's, of Course. And Lothíriel's. And that of Pa, Amaria and Beleg.
A singer had written a song of their deeds, and Sam was really happy about it. And everyone praised their courage, they feasted and just spend their time in peace.
One evening Irenia was sitting outside and admiring the moon, when she heard someone step beside her. She didn't have to turn to know who it was.
"Good evening, Boromir"
"Why thank you, Lady Irenia, Slayer of a Nazgûl."
"You're welcome. Lothíriel will be so furious when I tell her both Eowyn and I have now slain a Ringwraith and she didn't have a chance to, and now they're all dead."
"Yes, she will be."
Then they just stood there in silence. Some late birds were still singing, and Irenia could hear her wolves howl in the distance. They would have peace as well.
Boromir spoke first: "I'm glad you didn't die."
"So am I", Irenia smiled at him, though she doubted he could see it.
"And now we can make something out of our lives besides fighting."
"Sad, I thought you were Gondors' best Soldier?"
"Yes, but you are always afraid of dying. And you know you have to protect everyone, because you are responsible for them. It's a hard and dangerous job, Irenia."
"But you like it."
It was a statement, and they both knew it was true, so he just nodded.
"But peace is better. You can marry, stay at home, get children and don't have to worry about the end of the world."
"Agreed. But get to the point, will you?"
He laughed silently. "With pleasure, Lady Irenia. So, will you marry me?"
She hadn't excepted this, never even thought about marrying, but deep inside she had always known it would come this way. She smiled back and said: "With pleasure, Son of the steward."
The next morning everybody knew, and surprisingly no one was surprised. Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas and Gimli, Pippin, Frodo and Sam, all the soldiers she had always known congratulated them, and when may came they started back to the city.
Aragorn was crowned king of Gondor and Arnor, and everybody was happy. Irenia talked with Éowyn and Lothíriel, and neither of them was surprised about her engagement.
Éowyn was to marry Faramir, and Lothíriel spent days talking about how she hadn't slain a Nazgûl.
Irenia didn't use any magic, because there was no need for it, and sometimes she was with the hobbits, or listening to Gandalf telling her stories.
Most of the injured had recovered, and they spend their days in peace, rebuilding the fields of Pelenor and growing plants.
On the 1st of Lithe arrived even more elves, among whose were Lady Galadriel, Lord Elrond and Lady Arwen.
The following day Aragorn married Arwen, and Boromir rejected his task as a steward and gave it to Faramir, which was clearly the better way round.
On the 18th of July Éomer, king of Rohan arrived in Minas Tirith to take his Uncles Body to Edoras, to bury him among his ancestors.
Lothíriel, being bored and wanting to see Rohan and be with the elves who were to accompany them, and then go back to their homes, was to go with them.
Aragorn went with them, and Arwen remained in Minas Tirith, along with Irenia. Éowyn and Boromir went with them as well, and Faramir remained in Minas Tirith to reign as steward.
Arwen and Irenia befriended very fast, and they talked often in elvish. Arwen told her of Rivendell, and Irenia recalled her time as gondorian girl in Minas Tirith.
Then everyone came back, and all the people that weren't married yet did so.
Pa and Beleg had survived the war, and Amaria, Estel and Barahir came back. Beleg married a funny and lovable maid from Lossanarch, and everyone was happy.
Lothíriel remained in Edoras, seeing as she liked the Horses and the freedom she had very much. She got trained as a shieldmaiden - what she had always dreamt of-, and though she didn't slay a Nazgûl, she brought death upon many an Orc. Some Years later she married Éomer, and everyone was glad.
There finally was peace, and they lived their lives as if Sauron had never been. Aragorn was a good king, and soon all of Gondor was rich and merry again.
Can you see I don't like lovestorries? Yes? Probably? Fine. So I just packed...um.... five chapters in one. Shame on me. And I can still write the epilogue before lunch. Wonderful.
I had three Ideas for OS, and Samwise Gangster luckilly lend me SIX WHOLE BOOKS!!! so I can read. Holidays are good.
