She knew

Sophia stared as Vincent, the oldest vampire in existence and a forseer, walked slowly in his long black cloak to where Miss Gorlan was standing. "Thank you, Miss Gorlan" he called out clearly. Age had not weakened him. "We are here to discuss the prophecy. The prophecy states the end of the hatred between our races and of a upcoming war. But most importantly, the prophecy shows how to stop it. I shall now read the prophecy. We must determine the two people it concerns afterwards.

War is coming,
between moons and stars
A war to end all wars
And destroy life

Yet it can be ended.
As can the hate that runs deep.
By a vampire with starlit eyes
And a wolf with the moon mark.

These two must love.
Connect souls
And find peace with each other.

Once this has been done,
They will access the greatest weapon
And become moonlight."

Sophia stared in shock. Star was the old term for a vampire. Moon was the old term for werewolf. Everyone knew war was coming. The dark side of the werewolves were preparing. They had hated vampires for centuries. The only thing that had stopped them attacking had been the light werewolves, who wished to protect their own and knew war with the vampires would cause nothing but loss, who had created barriers, as a measure to stop war, that meant unless explicit permission was given, no one could enter a territory that was not their home or the neutral zone. But now they defied them and worked to destroy the barriers. The vampires did not wish to fight but would have to defend themselves. But this prophecy could save everyone. But who was it referring to? Deep down, Sophia knew. She was the only vampire with white flecks in her eyes. She was the only vampire with starlit eyes. She glanced around the room. Every vampire stared at her. All the werewolves stared at someone else... Luna.

Luna knew the minute she heard moon mark. When she was born, a small crescent moon appeared on her neck. It was black. Her parents passed it off as a unusual birth mark. But Luna knew. Her breath caught in her throat. Every single werewolf in the room stared intently at her. They all knew about the moon mark. She felt like she was drowning. She couldn't breath. Her mind went blank. She desperately wanted to flee. But she couldn't. Because she had to fall in love with a vampire. The creatures that killed her mother. She never knew why her mother attacked and killed those vampires, but despite it being self defence, she still hated vampires, the species responsible for the murder of her mother. The only reason she didn't hurt them was because of her position. The future chief could never harm anyone without probable cause. She wanted to know now, right now, who she was destined to be with. But the phrase starlit eyes ran around her head. She hoped desperately that someone else had white flecks in their eyes. She looked at the vampires. Just like all the werewolves, the vampires only stared at one person. Sophia Heartley. Sophia looked how Luna felt. And yet, despite her obvious fear, she still had the appearance of an angel. Her eyes seemed to shine. Her blonde hair looked like snow. Her usually peach skin was pale. And her blood-red lips constantly moved from her ragged breaths. Suddenly, her body went limp and she fainted. Harry ran to catch her. Sophia recovered quickly. As a vampire, she healed anything almost instantly except deadly injuries. Harry, Ria and Alice surrounded her, blocking her from view. Luna felt an arm on her shoulder. She turned to see Finn. He was biting his lip and holding onto Chris, who had tears in his eyes. Martha was sniffling and her father looked at her with the upmost shock. Suddenly, the vampire that read the prophecy called for Sophia and indicated to Luna. The two joined the vampire. "Hello, chieftain's daughter" the vampire smiled. Luna stopped short and then continued to walk when she noticed Sophia's disapproving glare at her. As cold as the vampire had been to her, Luna knew that Sophia wasn't as rude as she acted. Luna decided to show Sophia that she had grace and dignity that could beat a vampire's any day. "My name is Vincent. If you wouldn't mind showing me your moon mark, I need to see it." Luna nodded and pulled the neckline of her dress further down. Vincent stared at it, almost as if hoping it wasn't the moon mark. But like everyone else, Vincent knew. Sophia looked heartbroken as Vincent called out "This is the werewolf the prophecy speaks of." He turned to Sophia. As a lady, she was well known, so her unusual eyes were common knowledge. She nodded and Vincent sighed once again. "And this is the vampire the prophecy speaks of." Luna wanted to scream at the world for forcing her to love another, but she couldn't. She looked over at her future mate...

Sophia felt a sense of calm wash over her when Vincent made his declaration. It was inevitable, so why should she get angry? Luna, on the other hand, seemed to vibrate fury. Sophia was honestly not sure how she felt about Luna. But she did not want to love her. Sophia decided to act exceptionally cold towards Luna. If Luna couldn't stand her, she'd be left alone. After the revelation, the werewolves decided to leave. The vampires had agreed to walk them to the boundary. Sophia was made to walk by Luna. She braced herself for the incoming chatter. "So, you know those stars in your eyes? They're mine now" Luna grinned as she said it. Sophia ignored her and continued walking. "Aw, you're no fun. Look, if we're going to fall in love, we have to at least talk." Sophia held back her snarl. After a few more attempts at conversation, Luna abandoned talking and instead got on Sophia's nerves by constantly switching form. The vampire was about ready to snap the werewolf's neck when they reached the borderline. All the werewolves came into a group. "Now the matter of Lady Sophia and Miss Luna" Miss Gorlan called out. Sophia was about to protest when a dark mass surrounded everyone. Sophia couldn't see and, judging by the confused voices of people around her, she wasn't the only one. She flailed around and bumped into several others. When the darkness cleared, Harry grabbed her hand. Werewolves were attacking the vampire council. Dark wolves. Vicious, ruthless, merciless. They hated vampires with a passion and wished to destroy them. In the neutral zone, they were technically allowed. But no vampire or werewolf had fought since her parents incident. It was pure chaos. Camp Pine transformed and fought the attackers. She immediately sought Luna and saw her defeat a large ginger wolf. Harry ran quickly, pulling her along. She saw Alice and Ria helping Vincent. "Where's Gorlan?" She called out. Suddenly, a body fell in front of them. It was Miss Gorlan, scars decorating her face, her cloak stained red. "Shit! She's dead!" Harry screamed. Suddenly, a large blonde wolf charged at them. They ran faster. Sophia felt herself slowing down. They were miles away from the vampire border. Werewolves could not cross, unless given permission. They would die instantly otherwise. But she was weak from her encounter with Luna earlier and her ball gown slowed her down. The wolf pounced on her and pinned her down. She struggled furiously and snarled. She tried to bite it, to no avail. Sophia pushed its head back but it continued its descent to her throat. She heard others call her name out. The werewolf's teeth got closer. She closed her eyes, prepared for death. Suddenly, the weight of the wolf was lifted. She looked to see a jet black wolf attacking the blonde. Luna. The blonde wolf whined and ran away after Luna viciously bit its hind leg. Sophia stood up, in time for Luna to reach her. Luna titled her head, indicating that Sophia should sit on her. Sophia climbed on the massive wolf. Her thick fur smelt overpoweringly of wood and smoke. But also... home. Sophia turned back to see another vampire, Miss Frost, crumple to the ground, with a short cry. She sobbed into Luna's fur. The border came into sight. Harry, Ria, Alice and Vincent all waited on the other side, terror written on their faces. When they saw her on Luna's back, they cheered Luna on. Sophia glanced back. Three werewolves were pursuing them. "Please, Luna. I know it's hard but faster. Please!" She choked out between sobs. Suddenly, she heard a ripping sound. A grey werewolf had a chunk of her skirt in its mouth. The wolf spat it out impatiently and quickened its pace. And just like that, they were over the border. Luna transformed and collapsed. The wolves that chased them snarled and stared angrily at the panting survivors but slunk back into the forest. Sophia fell to the ground and cried. Harry, Ria and Alice crowded round her and hugged her. The agony of losing fellow vampires burned her. She could still taste death in her throat. The wolf that attacked her was etched in her memory. She sighed and pulled herself together. Luna needed help.

Luna's limbs seared from running. Her dress was shredded and her hair wild. She opened her glistening eyes to see Sophia crying on the ground. Pity for the beautiful vampire consumed her. She tried to stand up but fell immediately down. Sophia approached her. Luna was lifted off the ground. She stared groggily at Sophia, who brushed a stray hair out of Luna's face, just as she had done that morning. But this action had gentleness in it. Soon, the werewolf was placed on a silky, grand bed. Just as Sophia got up to leave, Luna whined "Wait. Can I... not sleep alone? I'm just really stressed about my family and I could use the company." Sophia smiled with relief. "I'm so glad you suggested that. Bathroom's right there-" she pointed to a door "- you can look in the wardrobe for sleepwear, wear any clothes you want. I'll get you some food." Luna ran to the massive, elegant wardrobe and searched through it. The overpowering, sweet smell of Sophia hit her sensitive nostrils. She inhaled it softly and sighed. Eventually, she found some grey pyjamas she really liked and walked into the bathroom to change. Her dress, which was knee length before, now could be mistaken for a mini skirt. There were so many shreds in the top half that it barely covered anything. Her hair was muddy and wild. She looked like a mess. Sophia probably thought of her as an animal. Luna changed and brushed her hair. When she came out of the bathroom, she saw Sophia staring out of the window in a short, lacy, black and red nightdress. "Sophia?" Luna asked timidly. When Sophia turned around, her eyes glistened with tears. "Yeah, Luna?" She called. "Are you, um... ok?" Sophia nodded and half smiled. She then sat on the bed and pointed at a tray of food. "I got some stuff from the banquet. I hope it's ok" Sophia exclaimed. Luna nodded and ate some pie. Unfortunately, she had lost her appetite after the fight. She quickly walked to the bed and climbed under the soft covers. Sophia joined her. Luna knew that Sophia felt unimaginably awful. But Luna wanted to help her. "Sophia" Luna said as she wrapped her arm around the vampire. Sophia fell into the hug and clung into Luna tightly. Luna felt tears against her skin but knew not to ask. Gradually, Sophia calmed. But she did not let go of Luna. Sophia fell asleep soon after. Luna stared at the girl wrapped in her arms. Sophia looked so peaceful and calm. Her chest was rising and falling softly. Luna felt sleep tug at her eyelids. Sighing softly, she let darkness take her.
