Chapter 19
Lightpaw sneezed, opening her eyes to see a red tail draped over her nose. She rolled over, closing her eyes again, only to find a tortoiseshell paw sticking into her side.
She huffed. The apprentices' den had become more and more crowded, especially now that Leafstorm's kit, Maplepaw had moved in. Her new mentor was Cinderpool, and the little she-cat had already started catching her own prey.
Lightpaw opened her eyes again, then rose to her paws and stepped outside. It had been almost a moon since her littermates had started their training, and Thunderstar hadn't visited her in more than eight nights. She was starting to get worried.
She glanced up at the pale grey sky, seeing the pinkish patch where the sun would rise.
She jumped as she heard Duskmoon meow "It's beautiful, isn't it?" behind her.
Lightpaw nodded. "It's always nice seeing it through the clouds," then she remembered that Duskmoon didn't know about her wings, and quickly added "Like when it's foggy."
Duskmoon purred, fluffing her pelt against the cold.
"Do you remember that vision?" Duskmoon asked quietly.
"Yes," Lightpaw responded "How could I forget?"
Duskmoon was quiet for a moment, then meowed "I don't know if it was because you were there while it happened, but I keep thinking I saw you in my vision. You were floating in the sky, surrounded by a beautiful ring of light, like the moon, and fire rained down from the sky."
The light brown medicine cat closed her eyes, rubbing her temples, then meowed "It probably wasn't you. I must've been seeing something else."
Lightpaw nodded, but she could tell that the medicine cat didn't believe a word she'd just said, her eyes darting back to Lightpaw's face for a second, then breaking eye contact.
If it was me, Lightpaw thought, then why wasn't there anyone else?
She decided to ask Duskmoon about it.
Lightpaw turned back to face the brown she-cat, and asked "Was there anyone else in your vision?"
"There was a black cat, who I think was a tom. He was holding a tiny sun in his paws. There were also two other cats, who I think were both she-cats, a red one and a light blue one. The blue one looked like a StarClan cat, with stars all through her pelt, but she wasn't see-through, like StarClan cats are. The red one was climbing the sky. But it was mostly just the cat that looked like you." Duskmoon finished with a drawn out sigh, folding to the ground in what seemed to be relief.
"That felt good," she mewed "Finally I could share with someone."
Lightpaw moved next to the medicine cat, wrapping her tail around her, then asked "But why didn't you tell Pricklepaw?"
"It didn't feel right. Something was telling me that the only cat I should tell is you." Duskmoon replied, getting back into a sitting position.
The two she-cats sat there for a moment, watching as the sun peeked over the horizon, glowing like a huge, life-giving fire.
Then, Duskmoon suddenly mewed "You should probably start your training. The Gathering is tonight, and I heard that Sparkstar wanted to bring you since you caught all those birds."
Lightpaw licked her chest-fur, embarrassed. No one believed that the birds had all just fallen from the sky, like they had, except for Crowmia, who seemed content to sit back and let the Clan praise her apprentice.
Just as she was thinking this, the black and grey she-cat strode out of the warriors den and sat beneath the Highrock, waiting for the warriors to get ready to go on patrol.
Slashfur padded outside, yawning, and came up to Crowmia just as Lightpaw did. The red and brown tom smiled as she stepped back for him, and mewed "No, you go first. She's your mentor!"
Lightpaw shook her head, and waited patiently as Slashfur talked with Crowmia, eventually sitting next to the gorse tunnel to wait for more cats to come on the patrol.
Just as Lightpaw was about to open her mouth to ask Crowmia something, Leafstorm stepped out of the den, padding towards them.
"Oh it's so good to be back on patrol again!" The tortoiseshell meowed loudly "I honestly don't know how Hollycloud managed! I was tired out with one kit and she had to deal with six! She must have been so happy to be back out and- oh sorry, dear, I didn't realise you were there! You go first!"
Leafstorm beckoned to Lightpaw to go first, so she quickly asked "What are we doing today?"
"Just hunting." Crowmia replied, then turned back to Leafstorm. "You can join Slashfur on the dawn patrol. He'll be leaving once we can find more warriors to join."
The tortoiseshell she-cat leaped into the air joyously, her tail waving happily at Slashfur as she went to sit down next to him.
"You know, I agree with her," Crowmia suddenly mewed, snapping Lightpaw's gaze away from Leafstorm "I don't know how your mother managed. And to think her mother was my cousin!"
Lightpaw nodded, not really listening.
A starry shape had formed in the bushes, grower less faint with every passing heartbeat.
Lightpaw stiffened, thinking it was Thunderstar, but then she saw the colour of the cat's pelt. White.
Fallensnow turned around, his icy blue eyes staring helplessly at her, begging her to do something. A voice rang in her ears, yowling without words, and sending her stumbling towards the frightening tom.
Then, as suddenly as it had started, everything disappeared, leaving the starry shape with a light blue pelt.
Who is that? Lightpaw thought, padding quietly closer to the cat. It jumped in surprise when it saw her, then relaxed.
"Oh, I thought you were... Never mind. I'm Duskpaw! Who are you? And what is this place?" the little cat asked, gazing around the camp.
"I-I'm Lightpaw, and you're in the ThunderClan camp." Lightpaw replied, her fur starting to bristle.
"Huh?" the she-cat mewed, confused "Last time I looked, I was just heading out of the ShadowClan camp."
Suddenly Lightpaw knew what was happened.
It's another cat with powers! Look, her wings are dark blue! That must be who Thunderstar and Windstar were talking about! There isn't just one of us, but three! Maybe even more!
Hey there! How's life?
So yeah, it appears I'm good at unexplained time skips.
Also, leave in the comments who you think will be the other cats with powers! It'll be fun to see what other people think!
Anyways, the next chapter might be a little slow since I have a few art requests, but I'm sure it'll be fine!
If you have any ideas for how this story might go, please tell me! I might even use you as an inspiration!
That's all from me!
