Chapter 15
Lightpaw found herself in a field, with the moon and the stars casting beautiful, silver shadows over the grass. She glanced around, looking for Thunderstar's ginger pelt.
She didn't see the big tom, and so spread her wings and tried to look from the air. She spotted something orange flashing in the moonlight, and dove down, only to realise that the orange wasn't even fur, but feathers.
She flew on, dissapointed. The moon arched high overhead as she raced over a forest, then a beach, then a massive mountain with two peaks, which was outlined in silver in the beautiful night.
She glimpsed more orange below her, and dived down to investigate. Maybe it was just a bird, but she was still curious. The orange feathers flashed out of sight again, just as Lightpaw was about reach out and touch them.
She turned as she suddenly heard wingbeats behind her, and saw the orange feathers again. A black tom, around her age, was gliding calmly behind her, glancing at the scenery that rushed past them.
Who is that? Lightpaw thought.
I'm Emberpaw, the strange cat replied, I'm from WindClan.
"Wait are you reading my mind!?" Lightpaw shrieked at the cat.
"Well sort of," he replied "I've always been able to. No one else seems to know, though. They don't even care that I have wings!"
Lightpaw suddenly realised who this cat was. He was Mapledusk's kit. She hasn't realised that there were other cats like her and Crowmia, let alone in one of the other Clans.
"I'm Lightpaw." she finally mewed, slowing down to land on one of the two peaks on the massive mountain.
"Oh you're that ThunderClan cat!" Emberpaw yowled "Goldenlily told me about you. She said she saw you at the Gathering while she was talking to Pikefin."
Lightpaw nodded. She hadn't remembered meeting a cat named Goldenlily at the Gathering, but ThunderClan had left first, so it was quite possible that Pikefin had told this cat about her.
"So what else can you do?" Lightpaw asked Emberpaw.
He looked a little shocked, then continued "That's about it. You could see that I can fly, and read minds, but my powers don't seem to let me do anything else."
"Right." Lightpaw replied, then waited awkwardly as a silence grew.
"I-I should be off," Emberpaw finally mewed "Dawnstrike will be furious if she founds out I'm not in my nest."
The black tom gestured to his left hind leg, which had a long scratch running down its side. Lightpaw winced as she saw the blood still oozing from it.
I wonder what gave him that, she thought before stopping herself.
"A fox," Emberpaw replied "It came into our territory earlier today when I was having my apprentices' ceremony, and Dawnstrike, my new mentor, said that I should come with her to take a look at it, so I can memorize it's scent. It ended up sneaking up on us and scratching me before being chased off, and now Dawnstrike thinks it's her fault and that she should keep me in camp until it heals completely."
Lightpaw almost rolled her eyes, but narrowly stopped herself, and mewed "Well, bye then! Hope it gets better soon!"
"Bye!" he called back as she started to lift off "Hope to see you again soon!"
Lightpaw stole one last glance back, then flew on, back to the field, deep in thought.
Are there other cats like us, or are we just extraordinarily lucky that we happened to find each other?
Do I have special powers?
Does Crowmia have special powers?
Do any of my littermates have powers?
The plain answer was, she wasn't sure.
She landed in the field, and found herself being sucked into a void of stars and blackness.
Hi there! I had a sudden burst of inspiration, so here's another chapter! Also, just as a reminder, none of the prefixes or suffixes can have anything to do with flying, feathers, wings or magic. It'll be allowed soon enough, but for now, just stick to this idea.
Anyways, that's all from me!
