Chapter 7
Everyone went back to Rita's and agreed that Sirena's idea was very good. They decided to meet up the following morning at Zac's house before they set off. Zac looked for a map on the internet, Evie packed lots of food and drinks, and Sirena, Mimmi and Ondina packed some of Rita's potions and magical objects, in case of emergencies. Rita had given Mimmi clear specific instructions on which potions to use, and which you had to mix together, and Mimmi promised that she wouldn't let anything go wrong.
David and Carly were unable to come, because they had to stay and run the Ocean Café. Also Mimmi suggested that the less people go, the better.
Cameron said that he wanted to come, but Zac managed to convince him that it would be too dangerous.
"Well, if you need anything, the first person you call is The Camster," Cameron told Zac quickly.
The following morning the three mermaids said their goodbyes to Rita, and then made their was over to Zac's house. Evie were already there.
"Ready to go?" Ondina asked everyone.
"Just about," Zac said. He held up his map, where he had circled a small town a short travel up the cost, with the best view of Mako Island possible. "We just have one problem: how are we going to travel there?"
"Swim?" Ondina said.
Evie gave a small laugh. "We can't swim with these bags!!" She held up two bags of food and bottled drinks, and there were three more at her feet.
"We can magic them to stay above the water and follow us?" Sirena suggested.
"I don't think that will work if we pass a boat full of humans or something," Mimmi shook her head.
"Well, my parents have gone away for the weekend... My mum's car is still in the garage... But I don't know how to-"
Suddenly Zac's sentence was cut off, as he began to have a vision. Zac normally got small glimpses into the future, or images of places he had to go, and as Mimmi was his sister, she got the same visions too. The siblings both froze, looking quite taken back, there mouths handing open slightly and their eyes wide.
They saw the entrance to the Merman Chamber, in Mako Island. The image suddenly flashed, and then they were inside the Merman Chamber. They could see the back of a young man, with blonde hair, holding what looked like a smaller version of the trident stone... The young boy then turned around, and they saw his face. Erik.
Then the vision ended.
Zac and Mimmi both took a deep breath and closed their eyes for a moment, processing what they just saw.
"Mimmi?" Ondina asked, rushing over to her best friend.
"Zac?" Evie questioned, grabbing his arm.
Zac and Mimmi opened their eyes.
"What did your two see?" Sirena asked.
Zac and Mimmi looked at each other. "The Merman Chamber," Mimmi responded.
"And Erik," Zac added.
"Holding the trident stone," Mimmi commented.
"Erik?" Ondina asked. For a short time, she and Erik used to date, but he picked the Merman Chamber over her, as he was eager to start it up and see what happened. He claimed that he had no idea what it would do to the mermaids, but Ondina had ended the relationship anyway.
"But why does he have the trident stone? It was destroyed when we defeated Erik and saved Zac," Sirena reminded them.
"That's why he's stealing the moon ring stones," Mimmi snapped her fingers. "He's making another trident stone, so he can activate the chamber!"
"Are you sure!?" Ondina asked.
"Well we had better find these human mermaids quickly." Evie picked up all her bags.
"We may only have until the next full moon to find Erik and defeat him," Sirena said, taking a bag off Evie.
"Maybe we should go to the Merman Chamber now," Mimmi suggested. "He might be there."
"Not until we know how to defeat him definitely," Zac said.
Just then there was a knock at the door.
"Come in!!" Zac called. The door opened, and in walked two girls who Zac thought he'd never see again.
Well, two mermaids.
The first who entered was a short girl, with brown hair in a pony tail. And the second mermaid was much taller then the first, and she had blonde hair which went to to her shoulders.
"Nixie! Lyla!" Sirena cried. Nixie and Sirena were best friends, and Lyla shortly became their friends too, after they all got banished from the Pod together. Lyla had been considered a loner back then, so she made up for it with being bossy and loud.
"Hey y'all!!" Nixie (the brown haired mermaid) said, spreading her arms to present herself. "Your savior had arrived!!"
Lyla rolled her eyes. "Yeah, sure."
"Lyla?" Zac asked.
Lyla looked up and smiled. "Zac, hi."
Evie looked between Zac and Lyla. There had been a short amount of time when Evie had hated Lyla, because she felt that Lyla and Zac were getting a little too close...
"Who are they?" Ondina asked, pointing to Nixie and Lyla.
"These are Nixie and Lyla, my friends," Sirena said. "And these are Mimmi and Ondina, my other friends!" She introduced everyone, and handshakes and smiles were given.
"What are you doing here?" Evie said, folding her arms and raising her eyebrows.
Lyla gave Evie an unsure glance, but then held up her hand. "Because of this."
Everyone looked, and they saw Lyla's hand, with the moon ring, but the stone was missing.
"And I wasn't planning on staying in the sea with Veridia so close to finding out my stone was missing," Lyla explained. "But I heard Veridia talking about you guys, and how you were going to find the guy who did this."
"And then somehow she managed to convince me to come," Nixie shrugged. "So here we are!!"
"Well we'd better hurry up," Mimmi said. "We have a plan-"
And everyone quickly explained their plan to the two new arrivals.
"Zac is a real merman!?" Nixie cried.
"And Evie's a mermaid?" Lyla asked.
"Is that a problem?" Evie raised her eyebrows.
"... No," Lyla responded.
Evie held up her hand to present her moon ring. "I'm just as much a mermaid as you are."
"Okay girls," Zac said to Evie and Lyla, sensing the tension was rising.
"And Erik has all the moon stones to turn them into a trident stone!?!?" Nixie asked horrified. Then she paused. "Wait, who's Erik?"
"A merman," Ondina responded. "He..." She trailed off.
"He's Ondina's ex-boyfriend," Sirena whispered.
"She dated a merman even though she knew how dangerous it could be?" Lyla whispered back.
"We didn't know he was evil," Sirena responded. "He said he wanted to help us, and he was very convincing."
"And now he's trying to restart this...Merman Chamber on Mako?" Nixie asked.
"Guys, we're going to have to go," Mimmi said. "Zac, didn't you say something about a car?"
Zac lead everyone outside and into the garage, where there was a small red car.
"Yeah, but I haven't got my divers licence," Zac said.
Nixie grinned, and held up her hand, her fingers clenched in a fist. Zac looked at his hand, and suddenly, a fake drivers licence appeared in his outstretched hand, with all his details, and his picture.
"But I can't drive," Zac said. "I haven't got the keys, and I don't even know how to start this thing up!"
Sirena smiled, and raised her moon ring towards the car, and the engine turned on, rumbling and rattling.
"But the cars too small," Zac said, though he knew what was coming next. "The car only seats five, and there are seven of us."
Evie smiled, and raised her ring towards the car. There was a blinding flash, and the car grew. It now had two extra seats at the back of the car.
Mimmi turned to look at her brother. "You were saying?" She asked, grinning.
Everyone climbed into the car: Zac and Sirena at the front (as Sirena was working her magic to steer the car), Lyla, Nixie and Evie behind them, and Ondina and Mimmi in the back.
Zac grabbed hold of the wheel, and Sirena's powers backed the car out of the garage, down the driveway and onto the road. The car then turned around and began to drive down the road. Zac was still holding onto the wheel, so it looked like he was driving.
"Where are we going to start looking?" Lyla asked. "This country is huge, and we can't search it all by the next full moon!"
Zac's map was passed to Lyla. "Zac found a place with the best view of Mako Island," Mimmi explained.
"Impressive," Lyla smiled.
Evie butted in. "So there are six mermaids here, and only three of us have magical powers?"
"Mermaids have powers without their moon rings," Ondina retorted. "They just aren't as strong."
"And don't forget me!" Zac said. "I have powers, too!"
They drove for about an hour. They had to stop to buy petrol at one point, and that task took about thirty minutes, because nobody had any clue which type of gas to use, but they knew they couldn't use their magic out on the open, not when there was a chance they could be seen...
"Is this petrol or diesel?" Zac asked, pointing to one of the pumps.
"Don't you know?" Mimmi asked.
"Cars aren't exactly my strong point," Zac admitted.
"Well, does this car need petrol, or diesel?" Evie asked.
"Petrol," Zac said. "Or...is it diesel...?"
They decided to go for petrol, which, thankfully, was the right fuel for the car.
They eventually reached their destination, and Sirena managed to park the car.
"You're a natural," Zac said.
Sirena smiled, exceptionally pleased with herself.
"Is everyone okay?" Zac asked, him and Sirena turning around in their seats.
Ondina was just waking up from her nap, but Nixie's face was bright green, and she was clutching her stomach.
"Urgh..." She groaned. "That ride was not fun. Call me crazy, but maybe I'll just swim next time."
"What food do we have?" Mimmi asked. "I'm hungry."
However, most of the food Evie had brought was sea food, and almost half of it had gone!!
"I have money," Zac said, pulling out his wallet from his back pocket. "Let's go eat at a café or something."
"But where?" Lyla asked.
Everyone climbed out of the car and looked around.
"How about there!" Evie suggested, pointing to a rather large café, across the road from them. It was labeled 'Rikki's', in big, flashing lights.
Zac nodded. "We'll go eat, and then we'll try find ourselves a couple of mermaids."
"How are we going to do that?" Ondina asked.
"Can we worry about that when the time comes?" Nixie and, the green slowly fading from her face. "I need to sit down, my head is spinning!!"
