Chapter 6
Zac and Evie reached the café, and when they entered, Mimmi was already there. Cameron, Carly and David was sat with her. There were barely any customers.
Zac and Evie sat down in the two empty chairs set out for them.
"So how are we going to catch this guy?" Zac asked, referring to the thief who took the stones.
"Thank you for offering to help," Mimmi said, taking hold of Zac's hand.
"I'd do anything to help you and your Pod," Zac smiled.
Just then Sirena and Ondina came in, both looking extremely unhappy.
"Sirena, what's wrong?" David asked.
"I'll tell you what's wrong," Ondina said. She held up Mimmi's ring on her finger. And the blue moon stone was gone.
"You lost the stone!!!" Mimmi yelled, standing up and slamming her hands on the table.
"We don't understand how," Sirena said quickly. "Ondina was with me the whole time, and she didn't take it off once."
"We searched the grotto, and all around the moon pool, but it's nowhere. Mimmi, I'm so sorry," Ondina said, almost in tears, sitting down next to Mimmi.
Mimmi sighed and sat down. "Now we only have two moon rings, instead of four, and we haven't even began to hunt for the thief!"
Ondina suddenly paused. She turned in her seat. "Sirena..." She began.
Sirena clenched her fist with the ring. "There is no way that you are going to wear my moon ring!!"
"I'm presuming these moon rings are important?" Carly butted in.
"They hold pretty much all our magic," Sirena explained.
"What are you going to do if Sirena and Evie lose their rings?" Cameron asked.
All the mermaids fell silent. Losing your moon ring was a huge offence, and there was a big change that they could not be given another one. If Veridia had found out they had lost their stones...
"What if..." Sirena began, but then paused. "No. It's silly."
"No, tell us," David encouraged her.
"It's a silly idea," Sirena shook her head.
"A silly idea is better then no idea at all," Mimmi said. "For once, I am clueless on how to work this whole thing out."
"Well, I was thinking, Evie for her tail by accident," Sirena said. "So... What if there are other people who have been through the same?"
"You mean...land girls who have transformed into mermaids by accident?" Mimmi asked.
"Exactly! And Evie is the very first land girl to get a moon ring, which means that if we find any other land girls who are mermaids, they won't have moon rings with stones that can be stolen!"
"That is not a bad idea," Zac pointed at Sirena.
"David putt his arm around Sirena's shoulders. Sirena smiled and felt her face blush.
"If we can find mermaids without moon rings they'll be able to help us!" Evie said happily.
"Yes!! All you have to so is make sure Sirena and Evie don't lose their moon stones, so you have extra strong powers-" Carly began, but Ondina cut her off.
"So you have any idea how silly that is!?" Ondina shouted, outraged. "What are we supposed to do? Go up to all the girls in town and say: 'hey, sorry to interrupt you, but are you by any chance a mermaid?' ?" Ondina rolled her eyes.
"Ondina, calm down-" Mimmi began.
"Or do we have to search the whole country!? Search the whole world!? Search both land and sea!? Do you even realise how long that could take us!?" Ondina carried on complaining.
"Well sorry for suggesting it," Sirena huffed, clearly hurt by Ondina's words. Sirena then stood up, pushing her chair back, and ran out of the Ocean Café, her face covering her hands.
"Why did you do that!?" David asked Ondina, cross.
"Sirena needs to think before she speaks," Ondina yelled.
"So do you," Zac said, standing up. "I'm going to look for her."
"I'm going too," Evie said, following Zac out of the café.
Mimmi then followed, leaving Ondina, David, Carly and Cameron.
"Well..." Cameron said, trying to break the ice.
"I think I have a few tables to wipe down, David? Do you want to come and help?" Carly suggested. She and David went behind the counter, Carly trying to calm David down. David didn't normally get angry, but if someone hurt him, or someone he loved, he was very angry, very quickly.
Ondina sighed. "I better go apologise to Sirena, hadn't I?"
Cameron nodded. "That would probably be best," he replied.
Ondina pushed her chair back, and then stood up, walking out of the door.

"I've searched the reef, and Sirena isn't there," Zac said, flipping his tail in the water.
"I checked Rita's, and she isn't there too," Evie said, pushing her wet hair out of her face.
"She isn't with the dolphins either," Mimmi said. "I asked them, and they haven't seen her."
Ondina then swam up to them. "She isn't with the whales, either."
All the mermaids and the merman had been in the water, searching for Sirena for the past hour, and she hasn't appeared.
Ondina pushed the hair out of her face. "If something's happened to her-"
"I'm sure she'll be fine," Evie said. "Let's check again."
"I'll check the Moon Pool," Mimmi said, before ducking back under the water.
Mimmi swam as far as she could to the Moon Pool, and sure enough Sirena was there. Sirena had her back turned to the entrance, and she was holding onto the side of the rocks.
"Sirena," Mimmi said. "Are you alright?"
Sirena was silent for quite some before speaking. "Yes, I'm fine." Sirena slipped her head under the water, and turned to face Mimmi when she had emerged. "What's up?" She asked. Her eyes were red, like she had been crying.
Mimmi couldn't remember the last time she had seen Sirena cry, and the last time Sirena did cry, the sight broke Mimmi's heart.
"Just ignore Ondina, she's just worried about Mako Island," Mimmi told Sirena.
Sirena nodded. "We all are worried about Mako."
"You're idea is really good," Mimmi said, impressed. "I can't believe I didn't think of that!"
Sirens couldn't help but smile. "Thank you."
"Where would you suggest we look for the land girls?" Mimmi asked, swimming over to Sirena.
"It doesn't matter," Sirena sighed. "Ondina doesn't like the idea, so we can't do it."
"Who says we can't?" Mimmi said. "We can go find ourselves a couple of mermaids land girls, and if Ondina doesn't like it, she can stay at Rita's!!"
Sirena laughed. "Maybe we should look in a place where Mako Island is still in sight? Maybe if it's just up the coast a town or two."
Mimmi nodded. "We had better tell Rita, Zac and the others. Shall we go?"
Sirena nodded. "Yes, let's go!" She sounded much happier now.
Mimmi smiled. "Shall I race you?"
Sirena smiled. "I thought you didn't want to race anyone anymore, not after what happened to Zac?"
Mimmi shrugged. "You'd be easier to beat," she grinned slyly.
Sirena pretended to look offended. "Really? Honey, I could out-swim you any day!"
"Are you sure? Maybe we'd better find out," Mimmi suggested.
"Indeed," Sirena got herself ready. "Three, two, one... Go!!!"
And the two mermaids slipped under the water, flipped their tails and raced back to Rita's.
