Chapter 1: Part 7 (Dannity & Talek)

Both bodies plopping hard onto the equally firm ground in sounds resembling that of cement bricks hitting hollow earth - but it wasn't of hollow nor of a gracious landing. '... going to feel that in the morning' I murmured, easing up to a suitable sitting posture.

I whimpered low but sealed any further noises to escape as I looked at the assailant responsible for the downward-facing dog pose.

"You've got some aggressive force behind such a small physique..." a slight cough morphed into a contagious and core saturating laugh. I couldn't help but chortle along. It was quite gut wrenching, when you thoroughly traced all the events up to the collision.

I glanced down at my hands resting on the slick grass, only to have an extended hand, courteously reach towards me. It was hard not to slip under his gallant sight. The stars had sprayed a brilliant canvas beyond his soothing face. He coulda' been mistaken for a giant at this angle; of course, that could also be for the fact I was sitting flat on my bruised under cheeks.

A smile snaked easily and wide on his jaw; I suppose he was responding to the fool induced grin I had plastered on mine. I took hold of his hand; and with no effort at all, I was standing.

"I'm so sorry..." I pleaded. "...Did I really hurt you - I mean, you're huger than me?"

"Huger... that a new slang type of word for large?" The hint of a curving dimple spoke his playful mockery.

I swapped a gaze anywhere but towards his eyes (I've always had that minor problem of looking people squarely in the eyes - it's an intimidation thing I suppose) as I settled on another couple not too far away, scrounging on the ground like two baboons placed together during mating season.

Yet, I did what I do best and emotionally walked away from any further damage to my already lowered self-esteem. I bantered internally over my fumbled word. A complete moron must've been carved on my borderline normal forehead.

"No worries..." he interrupted. "...I knew what you meant."

A stolen glance at his eyes, and back I went to the frolicking couple. I guessed he could read the humiliation pouring over my pores. "Would you like a drink?" he politely offered.

The humiliation had all but disintegrated from the minute of silence. But it would be even more impolite to not answer him - that, would have my mother somersaulting in her grave to know her daughter could ever have potentially adopted 'rotten traits like all those other rude, tight-ass-trollops from high school' her always hilarious definition of girls from my hometown. 'Not me, mom.' I thought.

"Sure." I finally responded. Our hands still intact as we made our way back to the frat house. He made himself an even more solid guy as he opened the door for me; which I couldn't but help ponder when the last time someone (let alone, a guy) held a door open - I shrugged the thought away as quickly as I could - it didn't matter as much now as I entered the threshold.
