The Dark Grinmoire
Late that same night, Douxie was out doing his own thing. He was still suspicious of Jake, so he figured he'd go out on his own to see if he can find anything that could have to do with the dark magic that he is sensing.
Douxie went inside the public library to see if there was a book on what he could be sensing. Maybe something that would incriminate Jake and confirm his suspicions.
Douxie looked around the library, but couldn't seem to find anything. Nothing in the kids section, the adult section, or even the 'magic' section.
"This is ridiculous." Douxie said under his breath. "I thought a library is supposed to have everything. Why can't I find what I came here for?"
"I think I can help you." A mysterious voice said from behind him.
Douxie turned around and came face to face with a mysterious hooded person.
"Who are you?" Douxie asked.
"That is of little importance." The mysterious figure said. "Now tell me, what is it that you're looking for?"
"I just need to find a specific book." Douxie said. "Anything that mentions dark magic or anything else of the sort."
"Hmm. . . you're having suspicions." The hooded figure said. "Very well. All of the dark magic books are back in the restricted section."
"There's a restricted section in the library?" Douxie asked.
"Don't question it." The hooded figure said. "I'll lead you there."
With that said, the hooded figure took Douxie to the back of the library, where the restricted section resided. And when they got there, Douxie instantly began to get chills.
"I don't know about this." Douxie said.
"Trust me, you'll find what you're looking for here." The hooded figure said. "This place is full of outdated history, conspiracy theories, and dark magic books."
"I see." Douxie said. "So, it's stuff a modern day library wouldn't have."
"Exactly." The hooded figure said, stepping aside and gesturing Douxie to walk inside. "Now, go ahead. I'll be waiting out here for you to check out."
Douxie looked ahead and frowned when he only saw a stack of bookshelves in front of him.
"Is this some kind of joke?" Douxie asked. "You take me behind the main counter and lead me to more useless books?"
"Oh, sorry. Let me get the door for you." The hooded figure said with a smirk, before grabbing a random book and pulling down on it.
At that moment, the bookshelf began to move as it came out of the wall and slid to the side, revealing a hidden room within.
"Woah. . . I didn't think modern libraries had this sort of mechanism." Douxie said. "Truly fascinating."
"Anytime this century, dude." The hooded figure said, sounding annoyed.
"Right, sorry." Douxie said, as he walked inside if the secret room.
Inside of this room, there were shelves upon shelves of dusty old books. Most of them were mainly pieces of history that you wouldn't learn in school.
Suddenly, Douxie caught sight of a book that looked familiar to him. The title was 'The Story Of King Arthur and Camelot'.
"No wonder kids these days don't know anything." Douxie scoffed. "It's an interesting piece of history that will never be taught in schools."
Douxie grabbed the book and flipped through the pages. "But I guess it makes sense." He said, putting the book down. "We don't need people worrying about what's not gonna hurt them. At least, not in New York."
Douxie continued to look around, until he finally came across the book that he had been looking for. The title read, 'The Dark Grinmoire'.
"This looks promising." Douxie said, going to a nearby table and sitting down at it.
"Is so dark in here." Douxie said. "How can anyone, let alone the librarian, see in here?"
Douxie then took out his staff and cast a light spell for him to see the pages clearly.
"Alright, here we go." Douxie said, getting comfortable in his seat and reading though the prelude.
"For centuries, the royal vampire family has used this book to cast spells on their enemies or even casting them on themselves in order to stay protected. It has been passed down from generation to generation, last ending up with young Prince Vladimir Moon, who was set to be the next head of the Moon vampire family."
"A book used by vampires, huh?" Douxie said, feeling slightly more suspicious. "What a bunch of bull crap."
As much as he didn't believe it, Douxie continued to read through.
"Unfortunately, Vladimir Moon was slain by hunters, forcing him and his wife to give up their newborn child in order to keep them safe from any harm that may come to them, as well as sending them off with this here Grinmoire, as the child would be the next one to be able to use it. Unfortunately, this book was lost. And the true heir of this power book may never get to use it."
"An heir, huh?" Douxie said. "I wonder who that is. Or maybe. . . I might know them."
Douxie then flipped through the book some more. But it was all mainly just a bunch of spells for the holder to use. And the more he flipped through the book, the more powerful and dangerous the spells seemed to have become.
"With these spells, vampires can grow to become super powerful with their abilities. So much so, that they can become practically unstoppable. And if the heir gets ahold of this, they'll need extensive training before they can responsibly use their powers."
"These spells. . . they were really going to trust a young heir with these?" Douxie said to himself, feeling confused by it. "There's no way any young vampire could use these responsibly."
Douxie then flipped to the very end of the book and suddenly stopped when he saw the end.
"To Jakus Moon"
"Jakus Moon. . ." Douxie said, before suddenly realizing who that was. "I need to tell Nora about this right away."
Douxie then quickly got up, book in hand, and ran out of the secret room.
"Did you find what you needed?" The hooded figure asked.
"Yeah, thanks for your help." Douxie said. "But I need to get to my sister. We have some serious business to talk about."
With that said, Douxie ran out of the library and headed back home. It had gotten pretty late, so the conversation would have to wait until the morning.
Back in the library, the hooded figure smirked and took their hood off, revealing themselves to be none other than Natalie Heartstrings.
"Yeah. . . you do." Natalie said with a mischievous smirk.
