An Encounter With A Familiar Face
The next morning, Jake and Makayla both woke up early to head to school. But for some reason, Jake seemed to be thinking about the weird dream he had last night. It was all too surreal for him m to think about.
'Just what was that I saw in my dream last night?' He thought to himself. 'It's just so. . . strange. I don't even know what it could possibly mean.'
Makayla noticed Jake's confused expression and smiled. "What's wrong, bro?" She asked. "What are you thinking of? Or rather. . . *who* are you thinking of?"
Jake suddenly got nervous as he didn't want Makayla to know about his weird dream as he figured she wouldn't understand either. So, he immediately came up with a lie, which was also kind of true at the same time.
"I just. . . I can't stop thinking about Natalie Heartstrings." Jake said seriously, trying not to give away that he was sort of lying.
"Wait, what?" Makayla asked in shock by his response.
"I mean. . . that girl obviously has some sort of vendetta or something." Jake said seriously. "And if she's trying this hard, then she must be trouble. We need to be wary of her for now."
"I thought maybe you were thinking about. . . actually, nevermind." Makayla said. "But I do agree. I had an encounter with her yesterday. She's not the friendly type."
"Just know this, pretty boy. . . you'll regret not taking up my offer. I'll make sure you get what you deserve. Even if your not. . . one of them."
'Not one of them?' Jake thought to himself. 'What does that mean? At there more freaks here that I need to worry about? Or. . . maybe she's talking about the vampire guy in my dream. But. . . that's impossible. There's no such thing as vampires. . . right?'
"Anyway, we don't want to be late for school." Makayla said seriously. "So let's get going."
"Okay, yeah." Jake said. "Let's go."
As much as Jake was curious about the whole thing, he didn't want to waste time thinking about it too much. So he just followed Makayla to school.
________
"My, what a day yesterday was, am I right?" Makayla asked.
"Yeah. . ." Jake said.
"I wonder what today will bring for us." Makayla said. "After what happened yesterday, I believe that anything can happen."
"Anything, huh?" Jake said.
"So, imagine this. . . we're having a lovely day at school, right?" She said. "And all of a sudden, a fight breaks out! Ooh, or maybe we'll bump into someone we haven't seen in a long time."
"Oh, please." Jake said a she rolled his eyes. "That is the most cliche thing I've ever-"
Suddenly, Jake accidentally bumped into someone. He then looked up to see who he bumped into. And he was shocked to see who it was.
"Ugh, it's you." Jake scoffed.
"No way!" Makayla said, excitedly. "Douxie?!"
"Hey there, Light-Bulb." The young man named Douxie said with a smile. "And. . . Jake."
"Well, if it isn't Hisir-Doofus!" Jake said as he rolled his eyes. "Out of all the people I could of bumped into."
"How ironic." Makayla said with a slight chuckle.
Jake just sighed and crossed his arms in anger, refusing to look in Douxie's general direction.
"Anyway, what are you doing here, Doux?" Makayla asked. "I thought you were back in Arcadia doing your. . . Guardian stuff."
"I just came by because. . . it's kind of hard to explain." Douxie said. "I've just got some weird magical reading and I'm here to figure out what that is."
"Is it foreign? Or could you have been sensing me?" Makayla asked. "Maybe the gods wanted us to meet up again?"
"That's a nice thought." Douxie said. "But, I don't think so. It's definitely a different kind of magical power."
"Well, if it's not Makayla, then you can move out of our way, so we can-" Jake was about to say something snarky, but Douxie suddenly looked at him intensely. "Why are you staring at me like that?"
"Sorry, I thought it might have something to do with you, but. . . you're too lame for that." Douxie said.
"Excuse me?" Jake said, feeling offended.
"Look, I'd love to stick around and chat, Light-Bulb, but I really must get to work." Douxie said. "This new magic could be dangerous. I'm gonna make sure you stay safe."
"She has me, Doux." Jake said. "You can trust that I keep her safe, right?"
Douxie just scoffed as he didn't want to look Jake in the eye. "Yeah. . . I totally do." He said sarcastically.
Makayla realized how tense the atmosphere was getting between them and decided to break the silence. "So. . . you can just do you, Doux. And me and Jake will head to school." She said. "And we can catch up later, right?"
"Huh. . . now that I think about it. . ." Douxie said as he got an idea. "Let me go to school with you guys."
"What, why?" Jake asked.
"I think I might have a better shot at finding this foreign magic at your school." Douxie said.
"But. . . aren't you a little too old for school?" Makayla asked.
"Right. . . then I'll just have to get a job as a teacher assistant or something." Douxie said. "I can do that right?"
Jake scoffed. "Absolutely no-"
"Of course, My wizard bro!" Makayla said with a smile. "I'm sure there's some sort of opening that you can take."
"Cool." Douxie said with a smile. "Then let's get going."
With that said, Douxie walked with Jake and Makayla to school. Though, Jake didn't like the idea at all, he knew he had to be strong for Makayla. Especially since she hasn't seen her wizard bro in a while.
"I feel personally attacked by this." Jake said under his breath as he headed off to school.
