A Perfect Duet
Up on a nearby rooftop, April was watching over as everyone was still cleaning up from the fight. She sighed as she held her side while thinking back on what had happened during the fight with Night Shade. And the talk she had with Jake at the hospital came back into her mind as well. She didn't really know what to think about the situation as she was still confused about the whole thing.
______
"Also, when you kissed Night Shade. . . it wasn't a real one, was it?"
"Well, I guess not. But it also may have been, seeing as how I didn't expect it to work."
"Do you. . . want it to be genuine?"
"I'm gonna wait on it for now. It doesn't feel fair when there are still some loose-ends to figure out."
"I guess you're right."
______
"These feelings. . . is it really fair to act on them right now?" April asked herself. "It just doesn't feel right. I'm so confused."
"April!" A voice called out to her.
April turned around and saw Jake running up to her, as lightning was surrounding his body.
"Jake?" April said in shock when she saw him. "What are you doing?"
"I'm here to talk to you, April." Jake said, seriously. "We need to get some closure."
"Closure for what?" April asked.
"About the future." Jake said. "I need to know. . . what we want to do."
"You're talking about our feelings, right?" April asked.
"It's important to talk through this." Jake said. "I don't know if I'd be able to sleep without getting sense of closure."
"Well, I guess we can talk things out." April said. "I don't really know where to start though."
"Then let me take the lead." Jake said.
Jake then walked up to April and sat down next to her. April then sat down next to him as well as they both stared out into the city.
"So. . . what should we start out with?" April asked.
"Well, we already admitted our feelings to each other." Jake said. "I just don't know how to go about. . . actually letting them show."
"Well, I didn't want to make it awkward for you." April said. "Especially since after what happened with Ryan. . . and Natalie."
"I'll admit, I'm not really into getting into a new relationship yet." Jake said. "But. . . it just feels different whenever I think about you. It's like. . . I *want* to try it again."
"I understand if you're hesitant." April said. "I feel like I put a lot of pressure on you."
"No, it's fine." Jake said.
"No, it's not." April said, seriously. "I dumped my feelings on you without even thinking about how you'd feel. I feel so stupid for that."
"April. . ." Jake said, sounding sad for her.
"I shouldn't have even bothered with it to begin with." April said. "I feel like a player. It's not healthy."
Jake sighed. "Please, just let me explain-"
"I never once stopped to think about what you were thinking." April said. "You went through so much, and I must've looked like I didn't even care!"
Jake didn't even try to say anything else, as he continued to listen to April.
"I feel so dirty for kissing you before." April said. "And I wish we could be together. . . I really do. But I understand if you don't want that."
"April. . . I want you to look at me." Jake said.
"No. . . I can't look you in the eyes." April said. "The guilt will eat me up."
"Look at me!" Jake said, starting to get impatient.
April just sighed and looked over at Jake. When she did, Jake suddenly felt hotness in his face as a faint blush appeared on his cheeks.
"You have nothing to feel guilty for." Jake said. "These feelings are normal. Trust me. I can relate."
"Huh?" April asked.
"If anyone is to blame for making you feel this way. . . it's me." Jake said. "I was kind. . . naive. . . supportive. I'm the whole package, really."
Jake then took April's hand in his and smiled. Seeing this, caused April to blush a bit and form a small smile on her face.
"I really do love you, April." Jake said. "And I think. . . this can work out. Especially since you were there for me just as much as I was for you."
At that moment, music began to play as Jake began to sing:
Jake: "It's hard to believe
that I couldn't see
You were always
there beside me"
April: "Thought I was alone
with no one to hold"
Both: "But you were
always right beside me"
Both: "This feeling's like no other
I want you to know
That I've never had someone that knows me like you do
The way you do
And I've never had someone
as good for me as you
No one like you
So lonely before,
I finally found
What I've been lookin' for"
April: "Ooh, ooh, ooh"
After the song was finished, Jake and April both leaned in and finished it off with a genuine and passionate kiss.
After a few seconds, the kids was broken and the two of them looked into each other's eyes.
"Now that. . . was a perfect duet." Jake smiled.
"It sure was." April said with a smile.
"I just have one more thing to ask." Jake said. "April. . . will you. . . be my girlfriend?"
April smiled as tears of happiness began to form on her face. "Yes!" She said. "Yes, I will be your girlfriend!"
The two of them smiled as April went in for another kiss. Jake didn't hesitate as he returned the kiss with everything he could give.
This truly was a happy moment for them both. Not only did they finally overcome their own darkness inside of them, but they also managed to be each other's light. And that was that mattered. As long as they are together, nothing could take them down.
