A Failed Attempt
When Jake arrived home, Makayla was already waiting for him. And when he returned, she greeted him with a big smile.
"So. . . how did it go?" Makayla asked.
"How did what go?" Jake asked.
"Oh, you know." Makayla said with a smirk. "Your date with April."
"It wasn't a date." Jake said as he blushed a bit. "But. . . it went well. We just went out for lunch."
"Sounds like a date." Makayla said.
"It wasn't a date." Jake said. "It was just two friends finally getting the chance to hang out when they haven't been able to the whole day."
"Sure. . ." Makayla smirked.
Jake rolled his eyes as he out his stuff down and sat down on the couch and out his face on his hands.
"This day was the worst. . ." Jake said. "Natalie is so annoying. But on the bright side. . . I don't have to deal with 'her' anymore."
Makayla winced as she remembered earlier when Ryan had come up to her, asking for Jake. She had debated whether or not to tell him that, but she knew she couldn't hold it in for long.
"Uh, Jake. . . there's actually something you should know." Makayla said.
"What's that?" Jake said.
"Well, earlier today. . . something happened." Makayla said. "I didn't know if I should tell you, but-"
*DING DONG*
Makayla was suddenly interrupted when the doorbell rang. "Oh, I wonder who that is." She said.
"I'll get it." Jake said.
"No, I got it." Makayla said. "What if it's Natalie? I don't want you to be stressed a out it if she's here, right?"
Makayla then went to the door and opened it. And to no one's surprise, Ryan was standing right there.
"Oh, it's you again." Ryan said. "I'm here for Jake. Is he here?"
"How did you get this address?" Makayla asked.
"Not important." Ryan said. "Tell me. Is Jake here?"
"Uh. . . no, he's not." Makayla lied. "In fact, you just missed him. He left a long time ago."
"You think I'm stupid?" Ryan asked, annoyed. "School just ended for the day. And I watched him walk home."
"Weird." Makayla said.
"Now let me in." Ryan said as she pushed through Makayla and went into their home.
"Hey, this is trespassing!" Makayla said. "I can have you arrested for this!"
Ryan just ignored her as she went into the living room and saw Jake sitting down on the couch.
"Hey, Jake." Ryan said with a smile. "I hope you don't mind me stopping by."
"What the- Ryan?!" Jake spoke out in shock and fell off the couch in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"I watched you walking home." Ryan said. "And I figured that I'd stop by for a little visit."
"I'm sorry, bro. I tried to stop her." Makayla said.
"Well, you should've tried harder." Jake said as he stood up. "Anyway, you visited. Time to leave."
"What, that's it?" Ryan spoke out, sounding a bit offended. "You're not gonna let me stay awhile?"
"You know the answer." Jake said.
"Wait, just. . . hear me out." Ryan said. "I need to talk to you."
Jake looked over at Makayla as they both are exchanged looks of uncertainty. Jake sighed and looked back at Ryan and crossed his arms.
"You have 2 minutes to explain yourself." Jake said. "And then you're out of here."
"That's all I need." Ryan said, as she got closer to Jake, only for him to back away more.
"You don't need to be so close. . ." Jake said.
"Look, Jake. . . I've been thinking a lot about our relationship." Ryan said. "And I realized that I messed up big time when I broke up with you."
"Is she serious right now?" Makayla said to herself as she was witnessing all of this from a distance.
"So. . . I came by to try things over again." Ryan said.
"You. . . want to try our relationship over again?" Jake asked. "You really came all this way to ask that?"
"What's the matter?" Ryan asked. "You don't think I can manage? Trust me, I've learned from my mistakes."
"Okay, if that's true. . . then it wouldn't have happened in the first place." Jake said. "If you wanted to be my girlfriend, you would've tried a little harder to be a decent person."
"But. . . I've changed." Ryan said. "I'm in a much better place now."
"After breaking up with me?" Jake asked. "You must know something and you're afraid to lose what you've already lost."
"That's not true!" Ryan said, getting defensive. "I don't know anything. Honest! Is there something I should know, though?"
"Don't worry about it." Jake said. "My life is of little importance to you anymore."
"But-" Ryan tried for a rebuttal, but Jake put a hand up onto silence her.
"You had your chance, Ryan." Jake said. "And you blew it. Now, please. . . your two minutes is up. Leave."
Ryan was shocked to be kicked out so soon. Even though Jake made it clear that she had a limited amount of time.
"You heard the guy." Makayla said. "It's time for you to leave."
Ryan growled in anger as she turned away and stomped towards the door. She then turned back around for a final say. "Don't think this is my last attempt!" She said angrily. "I may have failed this time, but I promise you this! I'll get you back! I just have to wait until you want me."
"Bye." Makayla said as she shut the door on Ryan's face.
"What's her deal?" Jake asked, facepalming. "What makes her think I'll ever go back to her?"
"She's just delusional." Makayla said. "Or maybe she really does feel bad and thinks that you'll willingly go back to her. What a loser."
"Well. . . she's just confused." Jake said. "Maybe her feelings have changed. . . or maybe not. Regardless, my feelings for her have already left."
With that said, Jake went up to his room to clear his mind. It was getting late anyway, so he figured he would spend the rest of the night in his room.
But outside of their home, Ryan was still there. And she was not happy. At that moment, someone came out from the side of the house. It was none other than Trinity.
"I'm guessing that didn't go so well." Trinity said.
"Oh, how did you know?" Ryan said sarcastically. "Jake doesn't want me back. I should've known."
"Well. . . at least you tried." Trinity said.
"Maybe I should stop trying." Ryan said. "I mean. . . it's not meant to be."
"Shut up! You don't get to make that choice!" Trinity said. "Jake is your true love! I know how you truly feel. You do love him. You're just across to show it."
"So. . . I should just show him more love?" Ryan asked.
"Well, not exactly." Trinity asked. "But you and I both know he's just saying hard-to-get. He acts like he doesn't love you anymore, but he does. That's how all boys act."
"After a break-up?" Ryan asked. "I'm starting to see flaws in your logic, Trinity."
"Trust me. You don't want to miss the moment." Trinity said. "When everything suddenly goes wrong for him, he'll come crawling back. Trust me on that."
Ryan looked down as she didn't know what to think at that moment. But she decided to trust her best friend. After all, she has never steered her wrong before. Why would she now?
"You're right, Trinity." Ryan said. "I just have to keep trying. He'll give in eventually."
"That's the spirit." Trinity said was a smirk on her face.
