The New Kid

"You just have to show around the new kid. That's all." The principal says. It was near the middle of 3rd hour, he had been asked to help the new kid who just arrived.

Remington nods taking the map with the highlighted classrooms and places. Bathrooms, cafeteria, office, auditorium, gym, and the rest of his schedule. He noticed that they had similar classes, which would have been nice if he was normal, but he wasn't and he knew that.

The moment he came in Remington knew he had no chance to be friends with him. If he became friends with anyone it would be a problem for both of them. Remington was an outcast, he had to deal with the fact Emerson would be the only person to even glance in his direction without a disgusted face or a flash of dark purple eyes. He felt like people never cared, and for the most part, he was correct.

His dad (wherever he is now), wouldn't be proud. Honestly, Remington knew the truth, their dad left because of him... He was different and it seemed like it was his fault. Although both Sebastian, and Stephanie (his mother), claimed their parents relationship fell apart just before Emerson was born Remington knew he wanted a quick fuck before running off... He had no need to care about his middle child, he was different from the rest and that was quite obvious now...

That's the only thing Remington could think about when the boy asked the question. "What's wrong with your eyes?"

Remington thought he would be no different than anyone else, but he couldn't walk away from him like he did the rest.

The answer was actually quite simple, "I was born like this."

"Ah, I really like your eyes, I'm not really one for brown but as an eye color it's not bad. It's nothing like I've seen..." The boy says.

"Oh, I- Thanks..." Remington looks down. He got nervous when people complimented him. Nobody usually did. He was used to the little compliments from Emerson, but he assumed Emerson did it because he knew of how much Remington hated his eyes and just about everything about himself.

Remington shows only a small smile, honestly, he almost forgot how to smile, he never had a reason to. Now he did, because for the first time someone looked at him with glowing eyes.

"Well, I'm Andy, I should've introduced myself earlier." He says.

"It's okay, well, you already know I'm Remington,"

He nods, "Are you popular here?"

"I'm far from it honestly. Nobody here really cares about me. I'm an outcast." Remington looks down, at his feet.

"So was I, I don't plan on being popular here, not that I would anyway." Andy admits.

"I'm sure people here will like you." Remington sighs, "Anyway, this is the math room. The teacher is honestly a bit of a bitch so stay on her good side and the best you can hope for is silent treatment."

"Alright, I'll keep that in mind." Andy laughs quietly.

"The cafeteria is down the hall, you'll know it when you see it. If you want I can show you it later." Remington sighs.

He nods, there was a bit of silence between the boys as Remington led him through the rest of his classes and necessary places, when they finished the bell had rang and people flooded the hallways. They waited for things to calm down, and one last person had left the classroom next to them. When Remington saw who it was he froze... It was one of the people who always felt the need to make him miserable...

"Look who it is, Remington Kropp, the laughing stock of the school. Who is this with you? I had no idea you had friends, it's a shame he'll leave you like your father did." Devin laughs.

"You don't know why my father left Devin!" Remington yells his eyes beginning to water.

"It's quite obvious. I mean, the reason is right in front of my eyes. You know you can't do anything, you won't... You're hopeless Kropp, everybody thinks you're an outcast..." Devin laughs, he had pinned Remington against the wall. His intentions weren't very good.

"Leave him alone!" Andy yells.

"Oh, Andrew, looking tense now aren't you?" Devin asks.

"I- How do you know my name?" Andy asks, he was confused more than anything.

"News travels fast around here, kid. You're new here, everyone knows who you are, but not nearly as much as I do." He laughs, "All I ask is for you to leave, or else your picture perfect reputation will shatter before your eyes. You're no threat to me, especially since I know why you came here."

"You don't know shit about me." Andy mutters.

"I know your sister was murdered your mother overdo-" he starts.

"Stop! Just leave us alone! He doesn't deserve this!" Andy cuts him off, he heard enough. Especially when what he heard was true.

Although Remington was mouthing the word 'go' it would be wrong for him to do that... He didn't know what to do, he looked around. He didn't know how to help.

"Just go." Remington chokes.

Andy shakes his head, the only option in front of him. The moment Devin struck Remington he knew it was the right choice. He was risking getting suspended but he needed to get him off of Rem. He punched Devin in the eye without thinking about it, which made him let go of Remington. Devin muttered something holding his eye as he left the scene... Remington was on the ground his knees against his body...

"Remington?" A voice asks from behind.

Andy turns around to meet eyes with a boy, he knew he was younger than them he could tell, he must have been a freshman or maybe a Junior. He had about chin length hair, it was brown, some of his features seemed familiar, his style was strange but somehow seemed to fit him.

"Em? I-I'm fine." Remington mutters.

"I don't believe that Rem, you know, you're crying..." Emerson says softly.

Remington didn't even notice he was, he wiped his tears with his sleeves. He looked up at Andy. "I-I'm sorry, you shouldn't be here..."

"Look, Remington I'm not going to let you just get hurt by him. You don't deserve to get hurt like that." Andy says, his voice quiet.

"You really don't get it, do you? If you're different, you're screwed, so what I was born like this, nobody cares. It doesn't matter whether I deserve it or not they want someone to target and I just happen to be that person. I can't stop it and you certainly don't need to fight my battles." Remington sighs.

"Remington, look at me... I'm not trying to fight them for you, I'm just trying to help you. You're the only person I know here and you're the only person that seems to at least somewhat care about me. I know you would have let him attack you, you wouldn't have fought back..."

"I don't need protection. It doesn't matter at this point, I don't matter at this point... He already seems to know too much about your family, so just keep away. Just forget about this, alright, you'll fit in just fine here."

"I really wanted to try becoming friends with you, Remington. I should have known you wouldn't be interested." Andy sighs, his eyes flashing black as he walked away.

Emerson looks at Remington surprised.
