Gray, Zach and Penny had been walking deeper into the jungle for what felt like hours, but was probably only thirty minuets.
Penny really hoped her feet were not bleeding.
She had trouble walking in normal situations but now, she was sure there were some nasty blisters on the heels of her feet.
"What was that thing?" Gray had finally gotten the guts to ask.
"That was Jurassic World's newest attraction." Penny spat, she was trudging just behind the boys wincing every once in a while.
She had discarded her shirt which left her in a tank top and a skirt that was practically falling apart, with her legs covered in dirt and dry blood on her cheek.
"What?" Zach asked looking back at her but Penny was looking at her feet.
"The Indominus Rex. A genetically modified hybrid." Penny explained farther. "These people never learn."
"If it was hungry it could've just eaten that dinosaur and left us alone." Zach said.
Penny laughed bitterly. "That's the thing. She wasn't hungry. She was killing because she could."
Gray whimpered again and Penny got scared that he might start crying again.
"Don't say things like that, you don't know for sure." Zach argued.
The blonde rolled her eyes. "Oh and you do?" She scoffed crossing her arms.
Gray finally spoke up again. "Your grandparents survived so it's not impossible to get out of this."
"Yeah on dumb luck."
Zach swiftly turned around. "Will you stop being so negative? I don't appreciate it."
"Appreciate it?" Penny let out a sarcastic laugh. "You think I actually care about your feelings?"
"You might be a little more grateful that I saved your life." Zach through gritted teeth trying not to raise his voice.
"You saved my life?" Penny's voice got louder. "If it wasn't for me none of us would be alive right now." She said almost screaming.
Zach lunged forward and put a hand over Penny's mouth.
Sure it wasn't the most chivalrous thing to do, and he could of asked her to be quite, but that wouldn't have stopped her.
"You're gonna get us all killed if you keep talking loudly." He said.
Penny had one hand wrapped around his wrist and the other on his chest ready to push him back.
"I'm gonna step back, please be quite." He asked nicely.
He did as he promised and Penny glared at him and looked like she was gonna punch him in the face.
"Don't you ever do that again, or I will rip your arms off and beat you with them." She said, even though the idea was completely insane.
Zach and Penny were standing nose to nose glaring at each other.
Penny was only about five four, compared to his six one, he was still a little bit frightened of her.
They didn't even notice Gray had run off until he shouted. "Guys!"
Penny was the first to react and she sprinted towards his voice.
Luckily he didn't go far.
"Don't run off like that kid." Penny said putting a hand on Gray's shoulder.
Zach came up behind them and nodded. "She's right, stay close."
Gray didn't acknowledge them he just stared at the cracked hard hat that was firmly in his hands until Zach grabbed it.
It at the Jurassic World symbol on it and Penny actually got scared.
It was no surprise when she jumped at the sound of electrical buzzing and looked over to see one of the jeeps from the park.
"Stay here." Zach told both Penny and Gray holding his arm out.
He sighed when Penny stepped around him defying him like she always did but he followed anyway.
Penny proceeded to check out the jeep looking for anything that would help them out at all while Gray and Zach looked around the area.
"What's that?" Zach asked out loud getting the attention of Penny.
"What?" She asked coming to stand next to him.
Zach held his right arm out and pointed she looked to see two double doors that were thickly covered by vines and leafs and rocks.
"Do you know what's north of the park?"
Penny thought back to the time she waited for Claire outside the control room, most of the walls had pictures of dinosaurs and news paper clippings but there was a map of the park right in the middle.
"The first Jurassic Park." Penny said. "You don't think?"
She didn't believe that much of it could've survived.
Even if it did shouldn't they have torn it down?
Maybe they just didn't have the heart to even if it did fail.
Penny and Zach, with Gray behind them clutching to both of their arms, walked up the steps of the first Jurassic Park's welcome center.
She had to hold her breath as the doors creaked open and her heart pounded in her ears.
"Wow."
Zach and Gray stepped forward neither really noticing that Penny stood stiff by the door as she looked around.
This was it.
This was the park that gave her dad and Ellie, two of the strongest people she's ever known, nightmares.
This place is what gave them a look of terror every time Penny asked about it.
"You okay?"
Penny flinched looking to Zach and swallowing the lump in their throat.
"Yeah." She nodded. "I'm fine. I just -"
Penny couldn't even finish her sentence because she didn't even know what she felt.
"We really should get moving." Zach said softly.
He had only known Penny for a short amount of time but he knew she did not like letting people know when she was scared, even if it was so obvious she was, like it was right now.
He figured because instead of fighting him when he put a hand on her shoulder to push her forward, she obliged.
The trio began just kicking fallen pieces of wood and cement out of the way while looking around for anything.
Zach picked up a bone and dusted it off before looking around for fabric of any kind.
He finally found the old Jurassic Park
banner before turning to his younger brother.
"Still have those matches?" He asked.
Gray nodded before opening up his fanny pack and fishing through it.
"And you were making fun of him earlier for that." Penny chuckled a bit.
Zach rolled his eyes but made no comment about how Penny had shut down momentarily, he was just glad to have her snarky comments back for the time being.
"Here you go." Gray said handing Zach the pack of matches.
Zach then tied the piece of banner at the end of the bone farthest away from him.
Zach handed Penny the matches.
Penny struck the match and the banner caught fire.
"Now what?" She asked putting the match out, the edges of her thumb and index fingers tender from the heat.
The home made torch was giving off a good amount of light and they could all finally see around them for anything to help them get back to the main Park.
"Follow me."
He expected the blonde to protest but surprisingly she walked right behind him as he led them deeper into the welcome center.
Zach had to let a tiny smile slip out when he saw the she was trusting him.
He was just lucky that the path they were searching was really dark even with fire light.
"Where's Gray?" Penny mumbled to Zach.
"Gray." Zach whispered harshly before Penny heard the younger kid gasp and felt him run into her back and getting a tight grip on on her tank top so he wouldn't lose her.
They turned a corner and Penny couldn't tell exactly where they were, it looked like a storage room or garage, there were tools and goggles.
Penny turned around when she felt Gray let go.
"Gray!" She whispered as he picked up a pair of the goggles. "Stop touching things."
The thing twitched
and gray dropped it.
"Guys!" Zach said once he saw Penny nor his brother were right behind him.
Penny grabbed Gray's hand before coming to stand next to Zach in front of one of the old park jeeps.
"1992 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, sand beige ..." Gray mumbled.
Zach thought for a moment before "You remember when we fixed up gramps old Malibu right?"
"Yeah." Gray nodded.
Penny looked up at Zach. "You don't think you could actually fix this piece of shit do you?"
"We have to try. Gray find tools."
Penny was so glad someone believed in something because right not she didn't.
"Help me lift the garage door. We need all the light we can get."
The blonde sighed before going to the other end of the metal door and using all of her strength to help Zach lift it.
Zach pushed up his sleeves before popping the hood of the jeep as Penny climbed in the drivers seat and Gray watched his brother intently.
"We need the battery in the car outside." Zach said.
Penny hoped out of the seat and followed the two brothers to the jeep out front.
Zach was working on getting it out until they heard a noise and everyone flinched and looked around.
"You think it's out there?" Zach asked both of them.
Zach looked to both Penny and Gray and both of them looked terrified, well Penny looked a bit irritated by his dumb question, but still scared.
Zach backtracked on his words. "I mean I know for a fact it is definitely not out there alright? Totally safe."
Although Zach was bullshitting all of them his words did make Penny feel a bit better.
"Take this." He handed Gray the old battery of the jeep. "You're stronger than me."
Gray smiled and walked around the two teenagers carrying the battery with both arms.
"What?" Zach asked when he saw Penny's huge grin.
There was really no reason to smile nor should she be smiling in a situation like this.
"Nothing." Penny shook her head as they followed Gray back to the garage. "You're just care a lot more than you let people think."
And she was right, he was just so guarded over everything that involved feelings.
His feelings for her and how much he cared for Gray.
"You know giving a shit isn't gonna kill me." He said. "And Penny."
The blonde that was making her way to the drivers seat turned back around to see Zach shrugging off his jacket before walking to her and putting it over her shoulders covering her up better than her tank top and skirt were.
"You need that more than I do." he said before going back under the hood of the jeep and Penny went back to the drivers seat smiling pulling her arms through the jacket sleeves that was kind of big on her.
Penny didn't have to wait long before she heard Zach shout. "Alright turn it over." He told her.
She faced forward and silently hoped this would work.
As soon as the girl turned the keys the sweet sound of a running engine came on.
"Zach! You did it!" She said.
Zach smiled and closed to hood before going to the drivers side, making Penny climb to the backseat as Gray took the passages side.
"I thought you failed your drivers test?" Gray asked as Penny sat up forward poking her head in between the boys.
Zach shook his head. "No, only the driving part."
Penny's eyes went wide. "Oh god."
Zach turned around to face her. "We'll be fine." He said before pressing on the gas pedal.
That was probably the third time Penny had put her trust in Zach that day and it was beginning to make her sick.
