Chapter 1: Two Monsters, One Dream

It was a peaceful day in Monstropolis as a school bus was heading straight for Monsters Inc. and all the kids were singing.

🎵"The neck bone's connected to the head bone
The head bone's connected to the horn bone"🎵

They made it and they all got off. One of the kids roared at another, making the other scream.

"I scared you!" the first teased.

"No, you didn't," the second denied.

Then their teacher, Mrs. Graves, came out.

"Okay! Remember our field trip rules, everyone. Uh, no pushing, no biting, and no fire breathing!" she instructed, someone breathed fire, and she asked, "What did I just say?"

Then she started to count the kids.

"Seventeen, eighteen...Okay, we're missing two. Who are we missing?" she called.

She heard two different knocks on the bus door and remembered.

"Oh. Mike Wazowski and Y/N M/L/N," she said.

The bus doors opened to reveal two six-year-old monsters: one of them was green with one eye in the middle of his face and a retainer in his mouth while the other was F/C with two E/C eyes, H/L, H/C hair, claws for fingers, S/F/C t-shirt, sweat pants (w/o pockets), and tennis shoes.

"Thanks, Joe. Good luck finishing your crossword puzzle," Mike waved.

"Yeah. Hope it goes well," Y/N added.

"Sorry, guys. I didn't see you," Mrs. Graves apologized.

"That's okay. When I was on the bus, I found a nickel! I wish I had pockets," Mike replied.

"You and me both, dude," Y/N responded, making Mike laugh.

"Okay, everyone, partner up. Get your field trip buddy," Mrs. Graves stated.

"Jeremy! You and me?" Mike wondered to one kid, who didn't pay attention to him, then responded, "Okay, no biggie."

Y/N even tried to get a partner.

"Hailey? No?" she wondered as the same thing happened to her and she remarked, "Pairing up with Claire? Great choice. She's a good egg."

Mike tried the last monster that seemed to approach him.

"Russell," he exclaimed, the blue monster gave him a blank look, then Mike reminded, "Mike? Wazowski? We car-pool? We're cousins."

But Russell picked a different partner.

"Okay. Good catching up," Mike said as they walked off.

"Well, Mike, it looks like it's you and me again," Y/N replied.

"Yup. We're always partners," Mike pointed out.

"Well, we're best friends, so it makes sense," Y/N added.

He nodded, they locked arms, and walked toward the entrance. Then they looked behind them to see their teacher slowly coming towards them.

"Come on, Karen. You're falling behind," Mike called.

She gave a light laugh then requested, "Please don't call me Karen."

They all entered and one of the workers started giving them a tour.

"Now, stay close together. We're entering a very dangerous area. Welcome to the Scare Floor," he announced.

"Wow!" the kids exclaimed as doors came down for Scarers to go in.

"This is where we collect the Scream Energy to power our whole world. And can anyone tell me whose job it is to go get that scream?" the worker asked.

"Scarers!" the kids answered.

"That's right! Now, which one of you can give me the scariest roar?" the worker wondered.

"Me, me, me!" the kids shouted while raising their hands.

"Oh! Sir! Right here! Little green guy and F/C girl, two o'clock!" Mike replied.

"We're right here," Y/N added.

All the kids began demonstrating their roars until finally Mike and Y/N did theirs at the same time. The kids seemed to look at them, astonished.

"Wow!" they whispered.

Y/N and Mike smiled until they realized the kids were looking behind them. They turned around to see the Scarers coming their way.

"Whoa," they said.

One of the most famous Scarers, Frank McCay, came up to them.

"Well, hey there, kids. Are you on a tour with your school?" he asked.

"Yeah!" the kids answered.

"Yes. We're here to learn about Scream Energy and what it takes to be a Scarer," Mrs. Graves told him.

"Well, hey, you're in luck, because I just happen to be a Scarer. I learned everything I know from my school, Monsters University," Frank explained, showing them his hat and bracelet.

"Whoa," Y/N and Mike whispered.

"It's the best Scaring School there is," Frank continued.

"You wish! Fear Tech's the best," another Scarer claimed, taking the hat off Frank then gave it back.

"Okay. You guys watch us and tell me which school's the best. All right?" he said then whispered, "MU is."

He gave Mike and Y/N a smile, put his hat back on his head, then walked to where he needed to go.

"Let's go, everybody! West coast coming online. Scarers coming out," the monster over the intercom said.

Mike and Y/N got a little closer until the worker stopped them.

"Oops. Stop right there. Don't cross over that safety line. Human children are extremely toxic," he replied.

After they stepped back, the kids started to push them back.

"Whoa! Hey, guys, watch the eye! Ow!" Mike said after he hit the floor.

Y/N went up to him and helped him up.

"You okay?" she asked.

"Yeah. Do you think you could fly us to where we could see better?" Mike wondered.

"No way. My wings haven't grown in yet," Y/N answered.

(A/N I think I made A Bug's Life reference.)

"Okay. We'll figure something out," he assured.

They nodded and started to look above their classmates.

"Excuse me. Fellas. How about we do tallest in the back?" Mike suggested then they looked underneath them.

"Look, he's going to do a real scare!" one kid exclaimed.

"Cool. I want to be a Scarer," a yellow monster commented.

"Yeah. Me, too," a pink one agreed.

"Come on, guys. We want to see," Y/N remarked as she and Mike tried to look.

"Out of the way, M/L/N. Same with you, Wazowski. You both don't belong on a Scare Floor," the yellow monster said.

Mike and Y/N frowned until they saw someone pushing canisters toward the Scare Floor. This gave them an idea.

"Brian! Do not step over the line," Mrs. Graves said.

"Mrs. Graves, Michael and Y/N went over the line," a different student informed.

Mrs. Graves looked to see Mike and Y/N standing behind Frank as he was about to go into the human world!

"Michael! Y/N!" Mrs. Graves shouted.

As soon as Frank opened the door and entered, the two best friends did as well then the door shut.

They watched Frank move sneakily through the room as they stayed out of sight. Then they noticed a light turn on in the hallway. All three monsters hid as the parents looked to check on their child.

"See? I told you. He's fine," the mom assured.

"Well, I thought I heard something," the dad remarked.

They shut the door and Frank continued his routine. He lightly scratched the bedpost, waking the child. He rose up and the child screamed, filling the canister.

Frank walked out to see a whole team of paramedics with fear written on all of their faces.

"What?" Frank asked.

He looked behind him and moved out of the way to reveal a smiling Mike and Y/N. The paramedics asked if they were okay and told them they could've been hurt, but they were just happy to see what a Scarer can do up close. Frank put his hat on his head as he approached the two monster children.

"That was real dangerous, kids. I didn't even know you were in there," he warned.

Their faces were downcast until a small smile appeared on Frank's face.

"Wow. I didn't even know you were in there. Not bad, kids," he lightly chuckled.

He placed his hat on Mike's head (despite it being too big) and put his bracelet on Y/N's wrist. He gave them a wink and left as Mrs. Graves approached them.

"Michael, Y/N, what do you have to say for yourselves?" she asked sternly.

"How do we become Scarers?" both of them said.

A/N Well you and Mike were mischievous kids. Are the two of you ready to work hard to get into Monsters University?
