Chapter 8: Not Jokesters Yet
Tylor and Jamie snuck into the Laugh Floor.
"You should try it first," Jamie told him.
"You sure?" Tylor asked.
"Yeah. You worked so hard for this, even if the outcome is different," she told him.
He smiled as he gently grasped her arms as she put her hands under his elbows with a smile of her own.
"Thanks, J," he told her.
"Anytime, Ty," she said.
"Two hours remaining in the Central Zone. Two hours remaining," Celia informed over the intercom.
Tylor went further into the Laugh Floor.
"Heya, Fungus," Mike greeted.
"Thanks for keepin' me on, Mr. Wazowski," Fungus thanked with a chuckle.
"No problem. But you missed out on a ride in my car," Mike pointed out.
But then Tylor accidentally knocked over some canisters, getting their attention.
"Did Ms. Flint send you?" Mike asked.
"Oh, uh, well, I did see her earlier today, so..." Tylor responded.
"Perfect! If you're Ms. Flint approved, then get in here," Mike stated.
"I'll get him a door, pronto. Fungus?" Celia said.
"Come on, time is funny. Wait a second! Could that be the new slogan?" Mike wondered.
"Keep trying, Mikey. Keep trying," Sulley told him.
"Door is active," Y/N informed.
"Just make the kid laugh," Tylor replied, scoffed, then remarked, "Shouldn't be too hard."
He then went inside to see a child sleeping in his bed. He rolled over behind, took a deep breath, and got up with a smile to see the child awake.
"Hi!" he whispered.
The child then started whimpering.
"Hey there, little guy. Uh, you ready to laugh?" Tylor asked.
The child's response to that was crying.
"No!" Tylor shushed then repeated, "No! No, no, no..."
But when he got up, his horns hit the ceiling fan, making it disconnect from the ceiling and out the window to where a car alarm went off.
"Somebody is breaking into my car!" the father exclaimed as the child disappeared.
"Where'd you go?" Tylor wondered, looking around the room.
"Seriously?" the mother questioned.
But then Tylor noticed the child run for the closet.
"No!" Tylor yelped then commanded, "Hey, come here!"
The child, now crying, ran out and Tylor chased him around the Laugh Floor, to which Jamie took notice.
"Oh man," she said before going to help.
"Hey, how about this one? 'Our jokeage gives you voltage'! What do ya think?" Mike asked.
"No," Sulley disagreed.
"Not gonna happen," Y/N added.
"'You're in good company with our company'?" Mike suggested.
"Seriously, Mike? You've had better ideas," Y/N told him.
They then noticed the commotion Tylor and Jamie were trying to stop. Tylor was sent up high on the canisters.
"No! Watch out!" Sulley warned.
Then the canisters fell.
"Run! Get out of the way!" Jamie warned.
Screams sounded throughout the Laugh Floor.
"Watch out!" Sulley shouted, saving his fiance from a flying canister.
Then the child and Mike ran into each other.
"Oh! A kid! A kid!" Mike yelled until another canister knocked him back.
Jamie then came up to the boy, who stopped and whimpered at her.
"Hey, hey. It's okay," she assured then asked, "You wanna get back home, right?"
The boy stopped whimpering and slowly nodded his head.
"Okay. I can take you there. Come on," she urged gently while holding a hand out to the child.
He was a little hesitant before eventually putting his hand in hers. She smiled gently, to which he returned it.
She then brought him back to the door and into his bed. She tucked him in and gave him a Winnie the Pooh toy.
(A/N Did anyone else notice that?)
She smiled and waved to him while saying, "Good night."
The child waved back as she closed the door. She then powered it down and sighed before looking at a stunned Tylor.
"How did you do that?" he asked.
"I've always had a soft spot for kids. Granted it was mostly with monster kids, but I figured human kids can react the same in some cases," she explained.
"You clearly deserve being here," Tylor told her.
Jamie giggled a bit before they looked to see the mess, making their eyes widened.
"Let's see how long that lasts," she said.
