Chapter 22
Ford's POV
Y/n has spent three days here and she already seems settled in. Dipper and Mabel have spent a lot of time with her and I've been trying my best to help her with the whole transition. Her father has become a permanent enemy of mine for what he did to her. First he has the nerve to not believe in his own daughter and now he thinks it's okay to slap her?! This has gone too far.
I'm going to try my best to be some type of fatherly-image to her so she still has some type of father. I already see her like a daughter with her curiosity and adventurous mind. I want to share everything I know with her and more. I want her to know that unlike her father she can come to me when she needs help. I'm going to try my best to help her...but maybe my best isn't enough. What if I can't help her? What if I can't save her from Bill? I almost lost my own brother to him, what if I lose her too?
I gave up my bedroom so she could have her own room, I just moved myself to the basement. Wendy has been bringing her stuff here little by little. She seems to be getting use to the fact that this will be her home for the summer. She doesn't seem to mind; in fact she seems as though she's been a Pines her whole life trying to forget that she has a real family. The only person she still considers family from her own bloodline would be Wendy. It's going to be horrible when the summer ends...unless there is a way to make her stay in Gravity Falls.
I mean, if I can keep her hidden, she can stay with us! Of course Mabel and Dipper would have to leave, but Stanley and I would be here. Well, not for long..we would be going on our adventures soon and I'm sure Y/n would have to stay for school. Wait, I could teach her myself! I am capable of teaching her; that way she can come with us on our travels and not be left to a family who considers her a freak!
Of course it's all up to her; her life, her decision.
I hear footsteps rush into the kitchen as I see Y/n wearing a (f/band) t-shirt with her black leather jacket and shorts. The band on her shirt is...unrecognizable. I'm sure I'll know it by the end of the summer with her staying and all.
"Morning Ford!"
"Good morning, how did you sleep?"
"I slept great-"
"No nightmares?"
"Not even a dream. You know I would tell you if I had one, right?" I nodded as I continue to read my newspaper. Y/n placed a mug of coffee in front of me as she bit into an apple, "So today's plan is that we go to the diner for lunch and then Stan wants to take us fishing."
"Sounds good to me; what do you plan on doing till then?" I ask her.
She brings a hand to her chin as she starts to think, "Dunno, you got any plans?" I think about it as I take a sip from the mug, "Have you ever played Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons?" She shook her head, "Well, it's a game that Dipper and I like to play together. Once, we even brought the characters from the game to life by accident. That was a mess." I laugh as she turns wide eyed.
"It's a fun game, really. It involves a lot of math though and I'm not sure your into tha-"
"Are you kidding?! I have the highest grade for math in the entire high school! Some people would say I'm a bit of a nerd." she says sounding proud of herself.
"Well then, after I'm finished with my coffee I'll set the game up for us to play. You can ask Dipper if he'd be interested if you like."
"Sure!" She runs off with an apple in her mouth as she tries to find Dipper. I continue to sip my coffee, this will definitely be fun. I get to share one of my favorite games with her...and she even loves math! Three nerds playing D, D, and More D; what more fun could you have there?
I hear a knock on the front door then my brother yelling, "Ford, can you get that? I'm busy sitting in this chair watching tv." I laugh at my brother's foolishness before getting up.
I walk over to the front door and when I open it, I fake a smile on my face. It was Y/n's father; what was he doing here? "Hello, Mr. L/n, can I help you?"
"Please, just call me F/n (Father's name). I'm looking for my daughter,
Y/n."
"I'm sorry to say but I haven't seen her for a couple of days-"
"Don't play dumb with me, Stanford Pines, I know she's in here. Now if you would let me in, I would like to speak to her."
My fists tightened to the point that my knuckles were white, "I can't let you do that."
"Why not?"
"I'm not exactly sure if I trust you enough. You may be coming in here to slap her again for running off then pulling her back to your cabin."
"Look, I didn't mean to slap her; I came here to apologize to my daughter and that's what I plan to do. So if you'll excuse me-" he tries to come into my house but I push him right back out, "No, you listen to me. Y/n has told us a lot about what you've done to her. You threatened her that you would take her to some doctor because of her strange dreams."
"You don't understa-"
"No, you don't understand that the wheel she dreams about is real. I don't know what you've heard about last summer but here in Gravity Falls we had to go up against a demon with endless amount of powers who turned this town into Weirdmageddon. That same demon has been trying to get to your daughter for the past ten years and you've tried to blown off any evidence she gave you. Your daughter is in danger and I'm not going to let you nor any being for that matter hurt her, do you understand me?!" I was basically shouting at him as he just stared at me speechless. He shoved his hands into his pocket and walked off my porch. I'm not going to lie, that felt good.
I slammed the door shut for no true reason. I rest my head on the door as I close my eyes; F/n has some nerve coming here and demanding to see his daughter that he hurt. How am I suppose to believe that he was here just to apologize to her? How am I suppose to know that he won't hurt her in my house? That's when I hear someone clear their throat.
I turn around to see both Dipper and Y/n standing behind me. How much did they see?! I grow very pale as I try to figure out what to say. "You yelled at my dad?" Y/n chokes out and I feel my hand trembling. She's not going to be afraid of me now...is she?
"I...uhh...well..."
"You yelled at my dad!" she exclaims almost sounding joyful about it. She runs up to me and gives me a hug. I'm almost stunned by this action as I see Dipper standing there with his mouth open. "Close your mouth, Dipper, you're going to catch flies." He shuts it as soon as I say "close" but he continues to stare.
"Wait, so you're not mad?"
"Why on earth would I be mad?! You yelled at the guy who hurt me; did you expect me to give you a lecture on 'not to stand up for kids'? No way!" She squeezes me tighter as I return the hug. "Well, of course I'm going to stand up for you guys. It wouldn't be fair of me to just stand back and watch him hurt you. Now, what do you kids say about playing some D, D, and More D and forget about that?" They both nod their heads excitedly as we head to the gift shop.
We see Wendy and Simon having a conversation at the counter with no one else in the store. "Hey, Y/n! What's up?" Simon asks.
"Just about to go play some Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons. Want to come play with us?"
"I'm more of a chess kind-of-guy but why not?!"
I place the code in the vending machine and watch it open. Y/N's eyes widen, I probably should have shown her the basement sooner but it's better late than never. We go down and reach the bunker; through the glass I could see the portal that was shut down and torn apart. I never want another person to risk their life and go through that torture chamber. Thirty years of my life...gone from this dimension. Y/n walks up to the glass and places her hand on it, staring at the monstrosity I was tricked to create all those years ago. Dipper seems as though he may have a panic attack from all those memories and Simon looks...emotionless. He is just staring at it blankly with clenched fists.
"Is this the machine that you got sent through?" Y/n asks me turning around with her hand still on the glass. I take off my glasses and look down while nodding slowly. She turns back around and doesn't say anything else. I walk up to her and place a hand on her shoulder, "It's destroyed now, there's no way possible that the portal could ever re-open now. We're all safe." She looks up at me and gives me a warm smile.
"So, are we going to play the game or what?" Simon says which grabs all our attentions. "I got it!" Dipper exclaims while getting the game down. I sit down next to Y/n with Dipper on my left and Simon on Y/n's right. I get out some graph paper as we start to play the game. I can't help but glance back behind me from time-to-time to face the portal while voices fill my head. Fiddleford, Stanley,...Bill...
