Chapter 20

Y/N's POV

"Y/N!" Mabel screams as I jolt up awake.

I rub my eyes while yawning, "Mornin Mabes." I look behind me to see Bill fighting the urge to wake up.

"How'd you sleep?"

"Slept pretty good."

"So, how exactly did you end up sleeping next to Simon, huh?" Mabel says while starting to poke me. My cheeks start to heat up as Bill's eye shoots wide open. "H-How did I end up here? Funny story actually, Simon was having trouble sleeping and I had to help comfort him to sleep. Guess I must've fallen asleep while doing that, heh."

I mentally face palm myself, that was the worst explanation ever!

"Okay, if you say so~" Mabel answers back but it sounds too cheery meaning that she is probably going to try and get answers later.

I try to stand up but I can't because Bill's arms are still hugging onto me keeping me close to him. "Uh, Simon? Can you let go?" He seems to have a thinking face on before laughing, "Nope!" He hugs onto me tighter as I fall back down with my head on his chest again.

"Seriously?! Come on, I don't want to catch whatever you have! You have to let me go!"

Bill continues to laugh as I continue to struggle out of his grasp. I eventually stop and take in the fact that I am his prisoner of his warm embrace. I see a bright flash that blinds me for a second. I can't exactly see but I'm able to hear Mabel yell, "Scrapbookatunity! This one's a keeper!"

"Wait, Mabel! Gah, let go of me Simon!"

I hear both Dipper and Bill laughing. Honestly, Dipper has been getting along with "Simon" very well and making sure he's been okay with this fever. I'm curious to know if Dipper would still act the same if he knew it was Bill...nah. "So, how are you feeling, Simon? Any better than yesterday?" Dipper asks as my vision comes back and I see him hop off his bed. "Oh peachy, just wishing to die any moment now." was Bill's answer. He sounded absolutely miserable as he started to have another coughing fit.

"I know what will cheer you up! Let's go get some breakfast, race ya!" Mabel cheers before running out. She almost reached the doorway until she trips over my bag and something falls out. Something Dipper thought was long gone and was nothing but the remaining of its ashes. Something Bill thought would have already been found by the man with six fingers. Something that really wasn't that important to Mabel but she encouraged Dipper with it anyways.

Dipper slowly walked over, picked it up as gently as he could afraid that with just a single touch it would break a part. He touched the cover and brushed his fingers across the golden hand with six fingers. He opened it up and just flipped through the pages to see old entries and the new ones that he and his sister had made one summer. He was stunned and in total shock. Bill's eye glanced back at me and I knew why for he just realized why I had brought up the question during last night's dream.

"Is this-"

"Yeah, Dip, it's the journal."

"B-But how did you find it?"

"It was in the exact same spot where I hurt my leg, the same night Ford found me. It was just buried in the dirt."  Dipper could not move, he finally turned to me and grabbed my wrist, "We have to show Grunkle Ford!"

Ford's POV

"GRUNKLE FORD!!" I nearly spit out my coffee when I hear my niece and nephew scream out my name.

I watch as Dipper, Mabel, Y/n, and Simon all enter the kitchen. Stanley had already told me what happened to Simon and that they would be having a sleepover. Dipper shoves Y/n in front of me who looks a bit shy. "Y/n has something really important to show you!" Dipper yells. I totally forgot that Y/n wanted to show me something! She must hate me right now, I didn't mean to forget. I guess I've just been afraid to hurt her emotionally again that I've been avoiding her. "Well, go on, what is it you want to show me?"

She places something on the table, as I see what she places I drop my mug but she catches it before it shatters onto the ground. My journal! How did she find it? I've been looking everywhere for it and here it is! I struggle to pick it up and I flip through all the pages. It's here, it's all here! All my research that I've collected over the years was back in the palm of my hands. "I found it buried in the dirt at the same place you found me when I hurt my leg." Y/n explains to me.

Of course! I knew something was calling me in that direction all day! Lucky enough it was both her and my journal. I place a hand on her shoulder and she looks at me with those big (e/c) eyes of hope, "Thank you, child, for finding this." I look down at the book in my hand then smile. I gesture for Y/n to take it as she stands there a little shocked, "I've had enough time with this journal and I've already put all the stuff I know in it as did Dipper;" I look over at him who nods agreeing to what I'm about to do, "there are still a few blank pages in it and if you would like, I'd appreciate it if you were the one to fill those pages."

"You mean, you want me to have your journal?"

"Yes, if I'd want anyone else to fill their curiosity and questions in it, I'd want it to be you." She quickly hugs me before taking the journal. All four kids head into the living room as I see Y/n start to read it.

"You really do care about that kid, don't you, Pointdexter?" I turn to see Stanley who is starting to make pancakes for the kids. "I care about all the kids, Stanley."

"Yeah, but not the same as her. I know that look, I have that same look for Mabel and Dipper! You care about her as if she was your own kid. You love her, Ford."

"I'm just worried about her, that's all. She has a family with her own parents who care about her more than me."

"Did they believe her when she mentioned to them about the wheel?"

"No."

"Did they at least try to help her?"

"Well, not exactly, bu-"

"No buts! Ford, you love the kid and there is no denying it. You see her as a daughter and you want nothing more than to keep her safe."

There was no arguing with that, I guess I do love her. I never actually settled for a wife or to have any kids. I had always studied on my work and never thought about settling down and having a family to raise as my own. During that time I thought it was a waste of time, a distraction even, and I never was too social with anyone during my research. Dipper and Mabel are the closest things to being my own kids but no matter what I'll still be just their Great Uncle. Then Y/n comes along needing my help that night in the woods and I couldn't say no. I brought her home and realized she needed even more help and protection than I thought. She looked at me and asked me for her help to be safe and I couldn't dare let that dream demon hurt her. He's already tortured me enough and I just couldn't let her go through all the torture I've been through and yet he still haunts me in my sleep after so long just to remind me of all my mistakes.

No, I can't let that happen to her. That poor girl has been through enough already and she hasn't even gotten the worst of Bill's trickery yet.

Then that story of her past...almost reminds me of my own story. Everyone called me a freak just because I had six fingers and that's what broke me down. Now this generation of kids are calling Y/n a freak just because she has a strange dream? She doesn't deserve that; she doesn't deserve to have her self esteem be broken down or to be called something so she can just feel bad about herself thinking she is the one who is wrong. I feel even more bad that I'm the one who brought the conversation up.

I hear Y/n laughing from the other room and I couldn't help but smile. "Pointdexter, breakfast will be done soon. Go in there and spend some time with Y/n. Besides, she'll probably need help reading that handwriting of yours."

"You mean cursive?"

"Yeah, that.." I laugh at my brother before leaving the kitchen. Dipper was right next to Y/n talking about each of the creatures that was on the pages. Simon was standing over her watching her be fascinated by the journal. Mabel wasn't paying any attention about it for she was knitting a new sweater.

I went and sat right beside Y/n while she instantly rests her head on my arm, "Thank you, Ford, for giving me your journal."

"Your welcome, sweetie. So, what creatures has Dipper and yourself talked about so far?" I ask out of curiosity as she started to flip through the pages to find them. I was glad to share the information I knew to someone who would appreciate the information just as much. Maybe one day she could be my apprentice while we work together on solving the anomalies of this town.

But of course, that's all fantasy and hope; who knows if she would be interested. Dipper, of course, was but he couldn't dare be separated from his sister.

Y/n is probably the same, I wouldn't want to take her from her father and mother.
