Ch 4

Yeah... actually titling the chapter is a good idea

Scar groaned as he woke up. It took a while to remember where he was. In his base, surely. He'd been moving an evoker and-

The vexes-

And now...

As he sat up, Scar frowned. This wasn't his base. It was... the Crastle. Why was he there? What had happened?

Before he could come up with an answer on his own, Cub entered, saw him awake...

And left the room again.

'Cub?' Scar called, then stopped. His voice was... higher. Like...

Vex.

Oh no.

He scrambled to his feet, standing, looking for a mirror. Something so he could see... his hands. Clawed, bluer... he was right.

'Cub?' He repeated, one of those hands resting on the door. Not too far or... he didn't know if it would faze through.

'You're...'

'I know.'

'Scar?' Grian's voice joined Cub's. 'Are you alright?'

'I... is there a mirror somewhere?'

'Yeah, sure.' Footsteps as Grian runs off to find one, leaving Cub and Scar alone in silence.

'Scar?'

'Yeah?'

A pause.

'Are you alright?'

'Are you alright?' Scar shot back, before he could even think. 'Because you seem scared. It's still me, Cub.' And even though his friend couldn't see, he gave a large grin.

'Scar...' He stopped at the warning in Cub's voice. 'Seriously. Just... can I come in?'

'Yeah.' He opened the door, seeing Cub standing there, almost unable to look him in the eyes. 'Is it... bad?'

'Your eyes aren't even blue...'

'What?'

'They're... almost glowing white. And...' right on cue, Grian returned with the mirror, holding it for Scar to see himself. Pointed bluish ears, wings behind him. As Cub had said, his eyes were pure bluish white, though the iris and pupil was still visible, just a slightly darker shade. The scars across his face were also tinged blue, as were the vex wings behind his back. Grian was staring at him too, and he felt like shutting the door to stop it. Or kill him. That would be fun. Shoot him with a bow. But... he was unarmed, his inventory gone from when he died.

Before Scar could even realise what he was doing, a silver sword had flashed into his hand. He stepped towards Grian. It would be so fun to kill him... imagine his expression. He'd be so angry...

'Scar, stop!' He did, as Cub stepped between the pair, eyes wide. 'Stop.' Scar blinked, eyes losing their glow. The sword in his hand disappeared. Grian just stared at him, an unreadable expression on his face. 'Please.'

'I'm sorry.' He stepped back. 'I don't know what happened.'

'It's alright.' Cub looked over at Grian. 'You should go.'

'Y... yeah. Of course.' And without a further word, he did, flying out of the Crastle with remarkable talent.

'I don't know what happened.' Repeated Scar. 'I just... felt like killing him. And then... then I...'

Instead of shouting, or even just talking, Cub hugged Scar. The vexling hugged back a moment later, still shocked from what he'd done.

'I don't want to hurt anyone.'

'I know.'

'Do you think it will be as bad as before? In... in season 5 and 6?'

'I don't know. But I'm here if you need me. Always.'

'Promise?'

'Promise.'

Before any more comfort could be given, their communicators buzzed. Cub checked his, reading the message aloud.

Rentheking: MEETING OF THE KING'S KNIGHTS!

Rentheking: IMMEDIATELY

'Wait... wasn't Ren killed?'

'He woke up. Like you did. But as an iron golem.'

'And he already wants us all to meet?'

'Apparently... you don't have to come.' Added Cub quickly.

'No, it's fine. I'm alright.' Before his friend could reply, Scar had slipped past him, fazing through the walls until he reached the rectangular square table. A moment later, Cub flew in through the window, taking his own seat.

'Scar, you're awake too. And...' Bdubs trailed off, fully taking in the new appearance. His gaze flicked over to Cub. Thankfully, the awkward moment was cut off by Cleo, Joe and Iskall arriving in close succession. Looking around the full court with his new red eyes, Ren began.

'Knights of the square table. You are gathered thusly to discuss a new change to your king... as you can all see, I have gained the appearance and strength of an iron golem by being killed by one... yes, Lady Cleo?'

'I didn't know you were awake, my liege. And Scar too.'

'Indeed, I have awoken, blessed by these new powers, and seeing this world thusly in a new light... Sir Scar, please stop pointing a sword at me.'

'Oh, sorry. I... didn't realise.' Shuffling closer to where Cub was, Scar let the sword and thoughts disappear again. The what would happen if you tried to kill Ren?

'Now... where was I? Ah yes. I declare, upon waking with these gifts, that all members of the king's court should thusly be blessed with them too... as Sir Scar already also is. Extra Royal Emeralds to you, Sir Scar.'

'Are you sure they're... good, my king?' Replied Cub. 'Being half-golem.' Scar nodded in agreement.

'You doubt your king, Sir Cub-a-lot?'

'No, no not at all. I'm just... unsure on the matter.'

'If we all possess the talents and powers of different creatures, then the kingdom of Hermitcraft will know that we are all stronger than the rest of this here server. And as my loyal knights, you can fulfil greater justice upon the resistance and other peasants. Any questions?'

'So you want us to defy Xisuma's orders... and get killed by different hostile mobs, just so you can hold your power more?' Cleo questioned slowly. 'That... doesn't sound like a good idea?'

'Yeah, Cleo's right, Ren- my king. How do we know the lasting impacts of this isn't really detrimental to our lives and sense of self.'

'Because, Joe of the Says, the protection and justice upon this server is a responsibility greater than any other... Sir Scar, what is it?'

'Oh... can I have an ender chest?'

'Why would you want an ender chest?'

'Oh, no reason.'

Before Ren could question further, Iskall had handed him over. With a short laugh, Scar put it down, rifling through. Everyone was looking at him.

'Uhh... as I was saying. We all hold a task greater than any of the other squabs on this here server. To fight against the vile resistance and...'

'HOTGUY!' Before Ren could finish his speech, Scar shot him. Bdubs got to his feet, searching through his inventory for water and splashing it over him. Scar was still laughing. Cub was standing too, staring at him.

'Sir Scar, you dare shoot your king?! Treason!'

'Your face... you were so surprised!' Laughed Scar. And then realised, and dropped the bow.

'TREASON!'

'My king, are you alright?!'

'Do you wish for me to expel the traitor from your presence, my king?' Cub hastily intervened.

'Get rid of him at once!'

But the job had already been done before Cub could even help, as Scar fled, flying as fast as he could from the crastle, right as the fifth death came into chat.
